We’re going to Mars and I assume creatures and people we did not anticipate are coming back with us!
I’m sure that won’t have any consequences. It’ll be fine. What could possibly go wrong?
This episode is wild.
We have normal teenage shenanigans with Mark getting ready for and going out on a date with Amber. But then we also have a super suspicious Debbie about what Darkblood said. Meanwhile, Darkblood knows that Nolan killed the Guardians. Except Nolan is blaming Darkblood – who foolishly threatens Omni-Man.
Which I would not recommend, dude.
Don’t tip your hand. Don’t tell him anything. And definitely don’t confront him until you can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was the one who killed the Guardians.
Because otherwise, it’ll be your word against his, and no one will believe you.
No one.
Omni-Man is the hero and you’re a demon. People will definitely put their trust in him instead of you.
Just as he asked them to during the funeral when he told the world to look up to him. He’ll be there to protect them in the absence of the Guardians. Right…
I did not think Darkblood would be so foolish to tip his hand. But hey, what do I know?
He’s supposed to be a great detective. That appeared to be an awfully dumb move. I mean, Batman would only tell someone he’s onto them if it served his investigation. To get a reaction. The truth. Startle them. Or because it was already too late for them to do anything. He knew. He had proof.
This just felt like an odd choice. Though not an out of character one.
I don’t think anyone has dealt with someone like Nolan before. His cold, callous demeanor. He wasn’t going to slip up. Not in the face of someone discovering his plans. I think the only thing that surprised me, was that he didn’t straight up murder Darkblood right there.
Damn.
Except it made total sense when it’s revealed that he’s framing Darkblood. Which for whatever reason triggered Cecil to send him back to Hell. Because apparently, we’re just getting rid of people who know the truth instead of banding together. That certainly makes all the sense in the world. Not.
In other news this episode, Nolan is training his son.
Explaining why he left his planet in the first place. That he lost his parents, and this felt like a good thing to do in order to give purpose to his life. Debbie made the planet feel like home.
I really wonder if that’s true.
I mean, based on the episode itself when he takes her for a romantic vacation and refuses to save the world from a dragon until she says she trusts him. Even then, he doesn’t. Which is alarming. They sleep together at home. Trying and failing to appear normal when their son arrives home.
By all accounts, it appears that he loves his wife.
Right?
But he also coldly murdered like seven people who he claimed to respect, admire, and consider friends. Could he really love her? Or is she just part of whatever he’s planning? Or was she just an accident that happened when he arrived?
Like he never planned on falling in love, but he did. And thus, his marriage and life with Debbie happened.
Then came Mark.
But Mark getting his powers appeared to trigger the murder of the Guardians. Which also confuses the hell out of me.
I mean, Nolan didn’t seem thrilled when his son got his powers. Almost, disinterested.
Like I wish, it would seem like regret or something looking back on it with what I know now. But it doesn’t. He’s just disinterested in his son’s news, until Debbie kicks him.
Then he shows interest.
However, this is the only thing in the status quo to change.
Otherwise, what sparked killing them?
Is he so cold and emotionless? Is Nolan even capable of love? This is all really confusing and I don’t understand.
There are certainly moments that speak to his love for his family. Wanting Debbie to trust him. If he doesn’t care for her, why bother to go through all that effort to convince her?
However, at the same time, he was willing to let people die to carry on with his vacation because the world has other heroes. And he wants to be with his wife. Which could flip between being really romantic or truly nuts.
People are dying dude.
Superman would never.
Your son could never.
Then while he’s training his son, he seems to genuinely care for him. Teaching him to use his powers. Telling him to take slow, deep breaths because the air is thinner. Goofing around with him. Teasing him when he races home and breaks the sound barrier because he was going to be late for his date.
Joining in with his wife on teasing him about the date.
Like there are moments when he seems to be the good guy he pretends to. Or at least, is really a loving father and husband to his family.
Then he frames someone for the cold-blooded murders he committed, and I have no idea how he can just come home and act like everything is fine. As though nothing has happened and he didn’t do something horrifically wrong.
Just… I don’t get it. I hope there is a really good character backstory coming, because that is what this feels like it’s leading to.
Other things I do not understand. From time to time, it appears there’s no such thing as secret identities – like when they just come in and out of their home in their suits. Or when Mark is practicing his flying and leaving craters in his backyard.
I mean, the neighbors houses are like ten feet away. You had to have felt those hits and looked out the window just once to see Mark crawling out of a crater in his yard. Then flying off to try again.
He flew out of his window the first night.
Nolan is constantly walking around his house with his suit on. Through the back door. He doesn’t appear to worry about concealing himself in any manner when he wanders out of the house. Nothing to suggest he’s hiding his true identity.
Mark walked up and announced himself to Eve one day after meeting her.
She doesn’t wear a mask either or appear to conceal herself. She uses her real name as part of her superhero name. Like…?
But we won’t tell Amber the truth to explain why he’s so weird. Or explain how she ended up with a rock from Mars. Instead, he gives the worst exercise I’ve ever heard in my life and Clark Kent has had some wild ones over the years.
Just weird to me.
One minute they seem like they’re not a thing. The entire Teen Team knows who he is. He foolishly did not stop himself from yelling ‘dad’ when Omni-Man disappeared into a portal.
Can someone explain this to me? Please?
As for Amber and Mark, they’re pretty cute together – I have to admit. The date was sweet and nice. Mark managed a good enough explanation for his absence but failed to think about anything else. Like that he would need fake stories to tell her about his trip or be able to explain the Mars rock. Which – I feel – is like superhero 101. Get your story straight, man.
Amber is pretty chill all things considered. Though I imagine that will evaporate over time, given that this will be an ongoing issue of him disappearing for seemingly no good reason.
Also, Mark needs to pay closer attention in school.
Maybe read a map once and while.
Just a thought that might help with his future superheroing.
Then, there’s the entire reason the episode is titled the way it is. We take a trip to Mars and everything goes horribly wrong. Which also, this trip was just an excuse to get Omni-Man off the planet for a while so they could investigate him.
Except he refused to go and Mark took his place.
Which somehow Cecil decided was a victory regardless because they could see what Mark is made of.
I imagine that it must be terrifying for Cecil to know that Nolan killed all of the Guardians single-handedly and he has a son with the same powers he has. What could the world do if Mark turns out to be just like his father? How could they stand up against such a force?
I do not know, man.
It’s scary. So I can appreciate Cecil’s concern and his attempts to find a way to defeat them. I wish him luck. He’s going to need it.
On Mars, we’ve got weird little body snatchers that try and take over people. It appears that it managed to take over at least one of the astronauts. Which means Mark has brought something back to Earth. I’m sure Cecil will be thrilled to learn that we’ve got weird body snatchers just chilling on Earth and we left behind one of the astronauts.
I think.
I don’t know.
It was all pretty effed up and wild.
One moment, everything is fine and Mark is napping. Then we’re negotiating the release of the astronauts and when that doesn’t work, we’re running for our lives.
It’s going really well.
I for sure thought this mission was going to be a complete disaster. However, it appeared to turn out alright. Which I’m sure Cecil is grateful for, however, I’m sure he’ll flip his lid when he realizes there was a stowaway onboard.
Good luck with that.
Oh, and you know what else? I’m really surprised his cell phone lasted the journey to Mars. I feel like it should have frozen like his sandwich or burnt up leaving the atmosphere. Something. It definitely should not have lasted the journey. That was wild.
I mean, phones like this break if you look at them funny. But it made it all the way into space? Yeah, right.
Is it a Nokia? That’s the only explanation.
Other things that happened! Nolan lied about the evidence to Debbie.
I’m pretty sure Darkblood or something is in their closet.
Robot left out the Twins and is having them do something for him with a deformed body. Is that him? What in the world is happening? He’s not just a robot? He’s a person.
Well, that makes his suggestion to bomb an entire city even worse.
Circuits and gizmos and logic from a robot would make sense. But if there’s really a human behind robot, that’s just effed up man. I don’t think I want him leading the Guardians. He’s just too cold.
Debbie is going to break a record for selling the most houses.
Red Rush’s wife is devastated and believes there’s more to the murder than anyone is willing to tell her, so she wishes to leave and have Debbie sell her house. Which Debbie agrees to.
Eve offers advice about the apparent secret identity I didn’t know anyone was actually trying to keep.
Robot stole blood from Rex.
He seems to like Monster Girl. Which is a sucky thing that she deages as she transform. I just wouldn’t do it anymore. Never mind being a hero. I’d like to grow up and stop going through puberty. Repeatedly. Thank you. The world is on it’s own.
Wild episode. Overall, I really enjoyed it and I cannot wait to get some answers to these questions. Which means, I’m off to watch the next one! See you next week!
