Umbrella Academy: Run Boy Run – Review

Everything is unhinged here.

So unhinged.

We’re hunting for the owner of an eyeball. An eyeball. Yes.

On the way, we’re yelling at people while trapped in a teenage body. I have to give it to Five’s actor for making me believe he’s an old man in a young man’s body. Very well done.

However, this means he’s unable to convince his way past to get the info he wants, so he gets his brother to help him. His just as unhinged and in need of drugs brother, Klaus. Who obtains the information.

With just… Like the most deranged way possible.

Beating himself and his brother to frame the other guy just trying to do his job.

Five is impressed. I’m terrified.

They find the information is well – nothing!

Because we learn from Five that the world is going to end and he told this to Viktor who didn’t believe him. So he rushed off to stop the end of the world himself. He knows it has something to do with this eyeball.

Except guess what? This eye belongs to no one yet!

What?

Like what?

All that work and we’ve got nothing. Nothing.

The person who is going to help bring about the end of the world hasn’t lost their eye yet. They’re going to lose it sometime in the next week and then bring about the destruction of the world.

Like, I couldn’t help but keep thinking – why even bother getting the eye replaced then?

No, seriously.

If you’re going to the end the world, including yourself – why do you need the eye?

Were you not planning for it to be that bad? Did you want to see the end of the world with perfect 20/20 version? Even your own death? Were you not planning to die? Did the plan to end the world come to you after you get the new eye?

Or maybe the worst thought of them all – the person with the eyeball doesn’t have the importance Five thinks they do.

After all, Five doesn’t even know who it is.

He’s trying to piece it together.

He’s still missing information.

Is the person whose eye it is actually responsible? Maybe they were just a minion? Maybe he was just a henchman who eye your brother tore out? I mean, you don’t actually know what the eff happened.

You’re just jumping to conclusions.

What if you jumped to the wrong ones?

And I’m just thinking out loud here, but if the fate of the entire world is on the line, I’d get the damn details right!

As Reacher says, ‘In an investigation, details matter.’

Who are these people chasing after Five?

They also seem to be missing details because they didn’t really know who they were looking for, so that’s weird.

Just everything about this entire show is freaking weird!

Diego likes a detective and wishes he was Batman. The Batman to her Commissioner Gordan, except he’s interested in way more than work with her.

Also, does everyone know who they are?

Did they reveal themselves to the world with names and everything? Because what was the point of their masks in childhood?

All weird.

Klaus is desperate to get high all the time.

Viktor and Allison are not sisters.

They claim to be, but I’m not sure either of them know anything about the other.

In fact, I’m almost certain the same could be said for all of them.

They may have grown up in the same house together, but the way they were raised didn’t allow them to be themselves or be friends or a real family.

They never really bonded.

Nothing holds them together.

Not their affection for each other, because I’m not sure there is any.

Not their will to do good, because they’re all so caught up in their own shit.

I’m not even sure any of them besides Luther and Diego want to do good and help the world. Which is fine. Totally a reasonable choice after being forced into as children.

I’m not even sure Diego has good intentions either.

He seems like he wants to prove something to his father and siblings that he could be the best without them. So there’s that.

They’re not a unit.

They’ve never been a unit. Not a team. Not a family.

Nothing but a group of people raised in the same household.

Big whoop.

So when will they learn to give a damn about each other and work together to save the world?

Also what does it say that Five isn’t really asking for their help. He’s working by himself to try and stop the end of the world. Why not ask the rest of your ‘family’ to help save the world?

You don’t trust them. You don’t get along. You don’t love them. They’re just people who grew up down the hall from you. Nothing more.

It’s weird.

Let’s see what happens next!
