Pride – Marina – 2024

Maya and Carina’s story thus far, by cam a favorite YouTube Channel of mine!
Of course, cam came through with a season 7 included!

I didn’t think I’d be so unfortunate to be losing three of my favorite w/w ships this year, but I am.

And Marina is one of them.

I’m not really ready to say goodbye to them, although I’m more than ready for the show as a whole to go.

Maya and Carina helped me get through a hard time.

I lost someone close to me and within the same month I decided to give this couple a shot. I decided that misery loves company and watching them suffer while I suffer and if I associated them with the loss, who cares? I wouldn’t really love this couple, would I?

It would just be something to distract me.

But they became so much more to me.

So much.

Maya and Carina were the first real example of a w/w couple set in normalcy.

It wasn’t Avalance or Sanvers or Wayhaught set in wildly ridiculous situations facing down monsters and other supernatural storylines.

They were just two people in love.

Normally a story I didn’t really go for, but something about them compelled like no one else.

They made normal look fun and exciting.

That building a life with someone, the right someone could change everything.

Could make you wish for things you otherwise thought unreachable.

It taught me that normal is anything but boring. And I loved that. Because so many of our shows are based around larger-than-life circumstances. But I miss the days of Gilmore Girls and shows where normal is fun and exciting.

That everyday life isn’t boring.

It doesn’t need killer robots or clones or aliens to be interesting.

Interesting comes in a lot of forms.

Like two women who have broken pasts in similar ways. Complicated relationships with their fathers. With their mothers. With their younger brothers.

Who come from two different parts of the world, but see the world so similarly somehow.

That two people choose each other day in and day out.

They said for better or worse and they stuck to it, even when things got bad.

Maya and Carina built a life for themselves. Filled with all the complications that life brings. Because it’s never simple. It’s never easy or perfect.

But the moments in between the bad, make it worth it.

Their wedding day wasn’t perfect, but it’s still the day they declared they’d be together and be there for each other forever. And they are.

That’s what’s important.

They choose each other, over everyone and everything else.

No one loves Carina like Maya.

No one has ever loved Maya like Carina.

And I think that’s freaking beautiful.

To find the one who loves you. Flaws and dark pieces and all.

This couple met in a bar.

From the moment they met, they were filled with issues. From Maya trying to refuse only for Carina’s brilliant smile to pull her in. In that moment, neither of them knew exactly what was happening.

Neither of them knew the future unfolding before them with every choice they made that night.

For Carina to remember her. To ask about the nose. To ask if she was sure.

For Maya to refuse. To agree.

They didn’t know what it was going to lead them to.

Maya had no idea that someone was about to show her what true love and family means. That someone will love her darkest pieces and see the worst of her and still love her. Still choose to build a life with her.

Still grin at getting texts from her five years into their relationship.

Want to be a mother with her.

Want to help her heal all her wounds and be there when they hurt the most.

Someone who will tell she’s being an idiot and worry over her every moment she’s at work. Someone who will teach her life is worth living. Every single piece of it, not just work, or goals.

Carina had no idea the love she was about to find in this woman. Someone who would choose her over everything else. Her job. Her friends. Everything.

Unlike everyone else in her life.

Carina always comes first for Maya.

Someone to help her make all her dreams come true. Her job. Her children. Her partnership. Someone to worry over her endlessly when she’s pregnant or might be.

Someone to pick up the pieces when she can’t. To hold her or let her scream when the world is unfair. The person who shows up.

Who takes a vacation for the first time ever because she’s so taken with her.

This relationship is fraught and strong and wonderful and tragic and hopeful. There’s so many layers to each character and the couple. The show never did them justice, but the actresses did such a wonderful job with them, and I cannot wait to see what they do next.

As for Maya and Carina, I’ll endlessly be picturing their happy ending in my mind.
