Pride – Cazzie – 2024

Love These Two

Atypical was an excellent show, but I started watching for these two lovely ladies! I’ll admit it!

They popped up on Tumblr like most queer couples and I just had to check it out.

Honestly, my favorite plot for them was in season four.

Everything about Casey’s burnout and terror of not being good enough while everyone else is telling her what to do with herself was so relatable. Like that was me in high school.

I hated every minute. Especially when softball wasn’t fun because of all the BS behind the scenes.

That moment when Casey walked off, blank faced, only to go home and cry her eyes out hit home for me.

On top of that, Casey is dealing with her parents and her new relationship with Izzie and not quite fitting in where she should. Because she even feels like an outsider at the LGBTQ club, when Izzie manages to fit right in.

Well, guess what? I know that feeling too.

Like everyone else around you has managed to figure themselves out and they’re putting on labels, but all the labels you’ve been handed just don’t… Fit.

Not even the new ones from well-meaning communities.

So you’re floating a bit adrift until someone older than you, is all like, let me give you some guidance. Because they were there once. Lost and clueless about themselves. They see you and they help you find the right wording and understanding for yourself. They help you feel like you belong in the community even though it took you longer.

That person helps you understand there is no time clock.

There is no right way to do things.

And I loved Casey’s storyline of someone who is normally so sure of herself, losing pieces of herself until she looks in the mirror and is confused.

How did she get here? With all these people butting into her life?

I enjoyed that damn storyline so much.

I’ve watched it so many times.

And then on the other hand, there’s Izzie. Who has been lost the entire time we’ve known her.

Dating guys even though she’s not into them. Being bitchy because that’s how she interacts with people, until Casey shows her a new way.

Dealing with her mom. Being an adult.

But not really, because she’s a teen. So she acts out when she can.

But in season four, she finds herself.

She recognizes herself in the other members of the LGBTQ club. That she wasn’t interested in men. She copes with her mother in a new way and gets a support system she didn’t have before in Casey’s family.

They’re there for her so she can be a teenager again.

And it’s like a weight is lifted and she knows what she wants. She goes after it. She’s determined.

Meanwhile, Casey is floundering and the one thing she knows is that she wants to be with Izzie.

Beyond that. Yikes.

I love everything about this couple. These are two very real teenagers who are still learning about themselves. They don’t have all the answers. They know some things.

Like who they want to be with. They both want to run and go to UCLA. But they have no idea what their labels are or who they’re going to grow up to be. And that’s okay.

I loved that at the end of the series, there’s a sense that they have some goals. Be a couple. Enjoy running. Go to college. But they’ll figure the rest out as they go because there is no timeline or hurry.

I love them!

Thanks for reading!

Want a hit for tomorrow’s couple? Also a Netflix series, also teens, only one season, and it should have had more. Not to mention the supernatural done so well.
