I’m Obsessed with This Game

Completely!

The game in question is – Portal Knights!

This is a sandbox game with a regular sort of game attached to it.

In some super boredom on Friday night, I was looking through the free games on my PS4, as a I do sometimes. You never know what you might find.

On this night in particular, I found the trail version of this game. I was like, hey, it’s free. What’s the worst that could happen? I hate it and have to delete it? Wouldn’t be the first time, nor would it be the last.

But man oh man.

The free trial only gets you the regular story mode, but you can’t warp to other places. You’re just where you start on your fracture piece of the world.

I spent four hours playing.

A trial version.

I couldn’t access the entire game.

Just my little piece. I could get a feel for the game mechanics and how you build and destroy in the world. Little invaders arrive at night, you fend off with really simple hack and slash if you choose the warrior piece.

Which I did.

Hey, if you’ve read my blog before, you know I’m a Xena and Star Wars fan. If there’s a sword to be had, I’m going for it.

In conclusion, I have no idea how the fighting works for the other categories.

Either way, you fight some nightly invaders, deal with goo, and build a house while chatting with people on your fracture.

It’s basically Minecraft, from my limited understanding of Minecraft. Except, I love the character designs so much.

I don’t care for the completely blockie nature of Roblox and Minecraft, so normal looking characters building with blocks is interesting to me. Not to mention, they’re kind of adorable to look at.

So, after spending four hours in the trial version, I bought it the next day. Unable to help myself.

Then I spent eight hours playing it.

And I know this, because it gives me a thoughtful little time counter of how much time I spend playing my character. Which is somewhat terrifying and interesting to know.

After exploring more in the story mode for eight hours. The following day, I was like, let’s check out creative mode.

I haven’t left that mode sense.

In case you can’t tell, I love being creative, and this was amazing.

It’s nothing like Lego Worlds which requires a lot of memory for what pieces do in Lego format and being able to find them in create mode in the right colors over and over. There are just too many choices.

And while I wish this game had a bit more choices when it comes to accessories, you’re not lacking for space to build things. Or items to build with.

A large array of items to build with and a variety of landscapes keep you busy. You could even include enemies into the creative part, if you wish. I did not.

I enjoyed not being attacked by goo while I was trying to build things.

Over the course of the next several days, spending more and more hours in this game, I built a castle, a farmhouse, a moat, a carriage house, a beach, a mountain, chopped down every tree, plant, growing to clear space, built roads, and a mine.

I fully intend to have a little town as well, which I haven’t gotten to building yet.

My giant castle took some time.

But my goodness, I’m having so much fun with this game. It’s perfectly mindless and creative, while offering a little story if I’m interested in doing battle like I’m Xena, Warrior Princess.

I highly recommend this game if you’re a fan of sandbox games.

So much fun!
