Too much fire.
I’d like to give you some wonderful thoughts on my watch through of this episode, but many places were set on fire. And well, I have an issue with places catching fire.
Since well, I went through a horrible one earlier this year.
Please, excuse any of my confusion. It was a bit weird to sit through.
However, on the list of things I can say about this episode that I really enjoyed was Scanlan.
I’ve been really hard on him because he bothers me. Much like Vex, I do not want to take him at all seriously as she ignored his pleas that he could distract everyone for them.
But…
He pulled it off.
Albeit, in a super Sam Riegal – complete lack of a plan way. Which is the best kind of fun for me, because while Sam tends to make his characters wild and unpredictable, and a tad bit selfish. He also gives them complex layers where, while they might make selfish decisions, they are capable of selfless ones too.
For the right people.
Apparently, his friends in Vox Machina qualify.
He fought with everything he had and more to ensure that distraction was big enough. I even think there were a few moments when he and the audience thought he might die. But he didn’t.
Somehow, he managed to pull it off.
Despite going in through a window and landing right in the bathroom where the guy was pooping..? Doesn’t matter. He landed in his lap essentially while he was going to the bathroom.
Like dude?
Maybe look through the window before you just go in.
I can see the cast just dying at the table as this happens.
And Matt just being like, which window? The one on the left? Are you sure? Okay. Then drops that bomb on him.
Yep.
Total chaos ensues.
Somehow Scanlan does not die. Which I have to give credit to Sam, because I think until this episode it may not have bothered me if he died, and yet I leave this episode cheering him on. Happily. And so happy for him and his friends that he did not die.
Also, I cannot wait to see what happens with that dude whose house they broke into.
He for sure thought he was going to win easily only to discover this annoying little bug wasn’t as easily squishable as he thought.
From there, Vox Machina who had been waiting impatiently for the distraction. Vex actually appears to like Scanlan is worried for him.
Aw.
Percy is worried for Cassandra. He also earlier talked about how he was plagued by nightmares to build his gun.
Which goes with my theory from last week’s episode that the gun is somehow tied to the smoke. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the smoke appears, and the gun has magically etched names on it. Super suspicious.
Oh, and Keyleth spoke to the tree again.
It’s dying.
Which yeah, seems right. It’s like the Brairwoods have choked the life out of it. I’m actually more surprised there’s still some life to the tree at all! Like that it’s dying, not dead.
Keyleth tries to help and thus, more fire.
Oh, and there was ale, I think in that room.
But only one barrel or so to Grog’s disappointment.
Love that.
I also love that they break into the home and everyone is just waiting with archers for them to walk in. Grog is shoot several times, but hey guess what?
It doesn’t really do much of anything and he goes into a rage.
“I would like to rage!”
I can literally hear Travis shouting it every time. No joke.
The running jokes of the campaign come to mind every time one plays out on screen. I love this cast of friends who make watching a series like enjoyable on a whole other level.
I also enjoyed that everyone on Vox Machina knew they messed up by shooting Grog. Now you’ve done it, type of moment.
Love the guy who flirted with Vex only to die. Such a wonderful moment. Ten out of ten.
We make into the professor’s house, because yes, this guy used to be their teacher to the De Rolos. Until he decided to betray them for the Briarwoods for reasons.
I don’t even care what the reasons are.
He allowed children to be slaughtered and the two who were still alive afterward to be tortured. Nothing he could say would make any of those choices okay in my book. Nothing.
I do not blame Percy for wanting revenge on a man they bestowed such trust on.
And he does not help himself by slitting Cassandra’s throat at the end of the episode.
Well, so much for any surviving family for Percy. Also, WE NEED PIKE!
I’ve seen this cast in action at the table. I’ve seen multiple Vox Machina episodes now. And I’ve seen parts of campaign three. The smartest thing that ever happened was the decision to have two clerics in the second campaign. They cannot get by without one single cleric, and I’m convinced the Mighty Nein made it out alive because they had two. Not one. Two.
Despite Laura’s reluctance to heal during battle she would never actively allow her team members to die if she could save them. If push came to shove, she’d heal them every time. So, yes. Two clerics.
Which allowed the Mighty Nein to do some really dumb shit.
Now without Pike, these same crazy people are in charge of these characters, there is bound to be bloodshed. We should have stocked up on healing potions and duct taped them to the characters for safe keeping. Instead of the bag. On the cart. That was destroyed.
Or maybe found another town and gotten more healing potions without a cleric.
Just a thought.
I don’t know. Maybe that’s just me!
Ugh! Onto the next! I’m sure this won’t cause Percy to spiral or anything. He seems very levelheaded.
Thanks for reading!
Spread the love and read on!
