I don’t care how much time passes, this couple is going to live on the list forever. And forever.
No, that was not an intentional vampire joke.
I simply can rewatch this series over and over again without getting bored. I love it that much.
Sure, it’s hokey, and not the best production you’ll ever see. But honestly, none of that matters. The entire cast and crew put their whole hearts and spleens into the production of this series and movie. Not to mention the fans themselves.
I donated money to the movie!
We were in the trenches together, enjoying the little web series that could. That managed to make a movie out of it’s web series.
That’s amazing.
For me, the people I met online, and the community I was part of when this was premiering was worth everything to me. I love rewatching it and being drawn back into the series.
It’s silly and goofy and ridiculous. Like Wynonna Earp and Buffy, it never takes itself too seriously and that makes it great.
Not to mention the two mains have unbelievable chemistry together.
They’re clearly very comfortable with each other. It shows in every moment on screen together. Right from the start with all the unresolved tension.
The arc for the couple is amazing and I love it.
I love everything about Carmilla not wanting to be a hero and never really is, but Laura misses it entirely, and decides she’s the greatest hero ever.
The fundamental misunderstanding leads to the break-up in season two.
And while I think part of Laura doesn’t recognize that Carmilla isn’t a hero, I think part of her does, and doesn’t want to confront what that means. Because if she can love someone that apathetic about murder, death, and destruction – what does it say about her?
I think Laura isn’t ready to confront that part of herself until season three.
Which is when we see them truly start to reconcile.
As Carmilla is leading the charge against the villains and Laura is the apathetic one.
I think the switch allowed Laura to truly see things from Carmilla’s perspective. That sometimes, getting involved doesn’t fix anything. Sometimes, it doesn’t help. Sometimes, it makes things worse.
Which is why Carmilla sat most issues out.
She tried to be the hero once and it backfired. Horribly.
So she does what she can, but she doesn’t actively get involved like she did with Elle.
Then Laura gets involved and the whole thing gets worse. She thinks everything is her fault and that the world would be better off is she sat things out. Right as Carmilla takes up arms against her mother, no matter what.
I love the flip in season three.
Allowing things to be seen from each other’s point of view.
And here’s the even better thing – we get to the movie, and they’re returned to their original roles.
With Laura wanting to save the day and Carmilla going along to protect her girlfriend because that’s all she’s really interested in.
As she always really has been about protecting her own personal wellbeing and Laura’s.
Except now, Laura has a better understanding of Carmilla and doesn’t push her to be something she isn’t.
In fact, Carmilla tries to the right thing and Laura doesn’t want her to.
It’s a very real issue.
As they themselves point out, sometimes two people don’t grow at the same time in a relationship. But what’s important is communication and being understanding for each other.
This couple will always be very special to me and very sweet. I don’t think any amount of years or experience will ever change my mind.
I mean, this series was cringe from the start anyway. It doesn’t really change as I get older!
