Loquinha is a very recent addition to my favorite couple list!
They are from a Brazilian Soap called Tres Gracas! If you’ve never heard of them or know nothing about any of them, let me give you a quick summary.
Lorena Ferette is the daughter of one of the major villains of the soap. He’s a horrible person. Hates that his daughter has fallen in love with a woman and his son with a trans woman. He disowns his daughter and throws her out of the house while still attempting to break her and Juquinha up.
Lorena is a forward-thinking woman. She’s a vegan, doesn’t drink, and is an activist who when we first meet her, had no idea what to do with her life. Dealing with her father’s jabs and threats to cut her off while she was suspicious of how a man who supposedly gives away medicine to the poor for free could be as wealthy as her father.
She meets Juquinha at a girl’s night dinner with an old college friend of hers, Maggye.
Maggye and Juquinha have been friends since they were young. She invites Juquinha to meet Lorena and have dinner with her cousin, Lucelia as well.
Eduarda ‘Juquinha’ Fragoso is the daughter of a judge and fashion designer, also very wealthy in her own right due to her parents. However, she always wanted to be a detective ever since watching an old TV show as a kid. She begins the series just starting out her career being mentored by another detective, Paulinho. Juquinha is the nickname she’s given at the police station and it even sticks in her personal life.
She helps her partner with his love life and romancing the main character of the series, Gerluce. Paulinho wants to return the favor as they are friends now and tries to get to know more about Juquinha’s love life. Who claims to have never really been in love and recently ended something with some unknown person. Paulinho encourages her to go out for girls’ night to have some fun and is thrilled to discover she met someone while she was there.
At the speed of light, these two fall for each other. Dealing with the fallout of Lorena’s father kicking her out. Him trying to break them up several times. Moving in together. Meeting each other’s families. Taking down Lorena’s father. Lorena getting her first job. Lorena having sex for the first time while Juquinha learns to have a serious relationship for the first time.
This is another series where the couple isn’t isolated from the rest of the cast as well. Much like Kacy who I wrote about yesterday! Check them out as well!
Each of them discusses the relationship quite frequently with friends and family.
Paulinho and Juquinha tend to share their woes with each other and offer advice or comfort. Most of the time, they spend teasing each other that love has turned them each into mush balls.
Because they are.
Lorena – on the other hand – is supported by not only Maggye throughout the entire series, but also her mother and brother. Who easily accept the news that Lorena is dating a woman.
Her brother – Leo – and Lorena also tend to share relationship woes while Lorena often guides Leo into becoming a better person for his love.
Their relationship as siblings evolves as they get to know each other better as adults.
However, the thing I love most about this couple, is that they’re a couple. They kiss and make out. Enjoy spending all the time in the world together that they can. Finish a date, go home, and call each other. Get lost in their own little world when they’re together. Call each other at work or whenever they have a moment.
Collapse with relief on hard days when the other walks in and hugs them.
I see so much of how much I love my girlfriend in those little moments that these actresses capture. The butterflies. The comfort. Joy. Happiness.
Just how thrilled they are to be in the same room.
That after all the time they’ve spent together, they still blush when the other says something impossibly romantic. Get nervous when meeting their families even though it’s pretty clear they’re going to be together until they die.
Casually reference their lives together as though it’s a given, not a question.
I really love that they feel like a couple. They go to the movies together. Eat together. Enjoy time spent together. Juquinha picks her up from work so she won’t be alone in the middle of the night. Waits for her at work because she can.
Kisses her on the top of her head when she comes home from work.
It’s just so real and lovely and wonderful and definitely something we need more of on our screens. So kudos to Brazil!
Also, I love that me watching the Brazilian soaps annoys and endears me to my Brazilian girlfriend who finds them annoying. Because I do not find them annoying, they are nothing like the soaps we have here, and I love that for Brazil. Also, according to her, and the rest of the world these are some of the greatest soaps in the world. Like as far as everyone is concerned, Brazil has this shit on lock.
I must agree.
They did a great job with this series.
Check it out!
