Couples of Pride – Maya & Giovanna

Now, this couple, is the one of the most dysfunctional couples on the list this Pride Month!

They meet in a bar while one of them is on a date with another woman. Meanwhile, the other who is not on a date is married and having had a fight with her husband. Apparently, having a threesome is a good way to get back at him.

This entire series is set-up like a chess match between the two women.

Though it doesn’t always appear each of them is aware they are playing against each other.

One is a police officer trying to figure out what has happened to the other’s husband’s large sum of money. Unbeknownst to everyone, Maya, is the one responsible for the theft.

She’s ripping off her husband that she appears to have no interest in for reasons. All while keeping up an affair with Giovanna, who is investigating the theft.

There’s murder. Theft. Manipulation. And they’re horribly toxic to each other and everyone around them.

It’s a wild ride to watch.

Currently there are two seasons available on YouTube to watch.

You can watch these two torment each other while waiting for everything to come to a head in season three – the final season.

I so cannot wait to see how this trainwreck ends. Because this cannot be anything other than a trainwreck given the circumstances. One is a police officer and the other a criminal. Although, she appears to have some good reasons for what she’s doing given some of the reveal at the end of season two.

It appears Christopher – her husband – has done something terrible to warrant the hell she’s putting him through.

But will whatever happened be enough to convince the police officer – detective – not to arrest her and throw her in jail forever? I don’t know and that is the thing I’m most curious to see.

Meanwhile, in what we currently have available to watch is these two claiming that they’re not in love with each other for two seasons. Which they are. In case you were wondering.

They’re completely gone for each other.

Everyone around them knows it. Including their best friends. They’re the only ones who don’t want to admit it.

They get horribly jealous. Torment each other. Constantly toxic to each other and everyone around them. Playing a dangerous game with each other that I know just cannot end well.

Yet, at the same time, they’re oddly sweet.

Maya is kidnapped and rescued. But while she is held ‘hostage’ by herself, we’re treated to Giovanna losing her ever-loving mind trying to get her back. All the tears and angst.

I mean, if you’re a fan of intense dramatic angst, this is pretty much a goldmine for you.

Then once Maya is ‘rescued’ she’s in the hospital and we have them being all weepy over each other. Just so relieved. While Maya is touched by the lengths that Giovanna went through to save her. Unlike her husband who just paid the ransom and pretty much didn’t give a shit.

I mean, he gave a shit. But not to the length that Giovanna was freaking out.

We’re also treated to Maya’s intense guilt for everything she put Giovanna through during her ‘kidnapping.’

It’s a pretty fun series that’s just kind of like a guilty pleasure.

It’s just a good time, honestly. We get a toxic lesbian couple, that just get to be as awful, and terrible. They’re not trying to perfect or some bastions of goodness. They’re not coming out. They’re messy. Real. And human. They’re deeply flawed and kind of terrible people at times.

I really love that they’re not made out to be some epic heroes or that they’re even in the right.

It’s just giving us interesting characters who are guided by some real emotions.

Giovanna wants to be great at her job. But she’s fallen in love with a criminal. Someone who could do real damage to her career. As well as cause strife as she attempts to solve a big case. One that Maya doesn’t want solved because she’d go to prison. But Maya doesn’t want to destroy Giovanna’s career.

And they do a terrible balancing of these ideals.

Maya wants to take down her husband but she’s the one who could put her in prison. She’s pissed at something horrible he did. Something so horrible her friend and her girlfriend police officer have willingly joined her in this endeavor. Seems like something intensely serious and awful.

I love the compelling of them being pretty awful to everyone and each other.
