Percy Jackson – We Find Out the Truth, Sort Of

I was unreasonably happy to see Crusty.

Well, there’s a sentence you don’t hear everyday.

The whole mattress, fitting perfectly thing, and even how much it appealed to Percy was so wonderfully done. Even if they didn’t fall for it.

It was just fun to see.

But then, we’re in a much less fun place as we head straight into the Underworld from there.

Get chased by a giant three headed dog, who likes scratches, and to play fetch with red rubber balls.

The red rubber ball’s appearance always made me unreasonably happy.

Seeing some of my favorite moments and pieces brought to life is amazing. I never watch this show to end.

Then there’s the whole regret with Annabeth, leading to her leaving before the quest is done instead of revealing her regret. Something she clearly knew without a doubt. But probably isn’t ready to face.

Which, you know, happens.

Percy and Grover carry on.

Going through a dessert type place.

Only to realize there’s no dog.

Another moment I have been looking forward to since I clocked Grover wearing the winged shoes. Would they actually put in the moment he’s almost pulled in Tartarus?

They did!

I don’t know why or care why it makes me so happy.

It just did.

Percy saves Grover.

Rightfully understands that pulling them in would deliver the bolt to Kronos who has been organizing this entire plot. As the title suggests, they figure out most of evil plot.

Except Hades part.

Now Hades may be my favorite thus far.

He was so confused by Percy having the bolt. He just wanted his Helm of Darkness back, which he believed Percy also stole.

Just confusing Percy and Grover a bit more when they realize Hades wants nothing to do with his brothers’ issues above. He just wants his power and to be left alone.

At least until Kronos is mentioned. Then he wants to shit a brick.

Which for the guy who was eaten by Kronos, I don’t blame him. I don’t even blame him for wanting the bolt, if he can’t have his helm to protect him.

Lots going on there.

But Percy pulls a trick out of his back pocket and escapes with Grover, leaving his mother behind to take Hades up on his original offer. The Helm, for his mom.

Leaving his mom behind was not an easy choice.

Reflected in the past decisions his mother made to keep him safe for as long as she could. With little Percy declaring he would never make that choice. Except he does.

Because she raised him well.

To do the right thing.

To be a good person.

I loved watching the book come to life. But even more than that I loved watching a new scene form.

Sally Jackson is a whole person, unlike the movie, and completely different to the books. She’s given more to work with here.

Especially with how hard the decision is to send Percy away, to hide him from the monsters as best she can.

So she summons Poseidon.

She freaking summons him like it’s nothing! And best of all, he appears!

He shows up and allows her to say her peace, no matter how hard it is. He agrees with her. He loved her, he choose her because she’s not like him. In my opinion, at least.

At first, I was super confused by her grabbing the nearly finished sundae. Until she set it on fire. But then, I didn’t think he’d show.

He did. He came. He cared enough.

It was such a good scene.

And a well added one.

For the end of the episode, we end on a beach. Since this is a story about a son of Poseidon. It’s not very surprising.

Of course, they’re not alone.

Ares has shown up.

Because – well – Percy was supposed to dump that bolt into the pit with Kronos and he hasn’t… So… yeah.

This should end well.
