Do you spice?

I know this character is supposed to be a joking reference to Matt Mercer and is even voiced by him. But when I first saw him, I thought it was Caleb for half a second.

I was like… Caleb? What are you doing here?

Then I realized it wasn’t. But it got me for a moment.

In other news, this episode covers the events occurring after a dragon offers to help them defeat the big dude. Who was voiced by Lance Riddick. I’m going to miss him. Rest in peace.

They spy on Thordak to see if she’s telling the truth.

Everyone almost dies.

Everyone gives Vax shit.

Percy and Vex share a moment together that Trinket is suspicious and not happy about. Which makes me laugh every time.

Vax tries to mend things with Keyleth offering to be the person who takes her side. However, when push comes to shove, he fails to be on her side, and ticks her off.

I do have to agree with Keyleth that she doesn’t appear to hold as much weight as the others do.

Which is why it was nice that Vax tried to mend that. Only to immediately eff if all up.

I’m not sure how anyone else didn’t figure out that was Anna Ripley. I knew it like three seconds after someone said they heard a pepper box. Because that’s the thing that Percy uses for his gun. Right? Who else would come up with something like that?

Plus, I knew she was there last season.

Okay, maybe I had an edge over the characters. Except, Percy knew.

Which meant he ignored all sense and reason to chase after her to kill her. Which I get, but Percy you did a lot of damage in the process. Like shooting a random bystander. Getting your teammates arrested because they chased you through the chaos you started because you wouldn’t listen.

Or explain.

Like dude.

Maybe take two seconds and shout something to them. Like, “It’s Ripley!”

Just a thought dude.

Scanlan is off to find his daughter. To something. I’m not entirely sure what he was hoping to accomplish, especially when he was then needed elsewhere. She doesn’t want to see you, and you haven’t exactly come at a time when you can sit down and have a nice chat without getting interrupted.

Scanlan also cashed in his favor with Vex.

Meaning she did not have her broom to chase Ripley down. Yeesh. Got to love how that unfolded. It was amazingly dumb and ridiculous and perfectly Critical Role.

We also discover that Thordak is crazy.

Which I thought seemed pretty obvious when he showed up. But there’s apparently more it with the soul stone that he fused with, making him crazier, and power mad. Also incredibly rude since he won’t give the cure to the dragon, he made a deal with. Honor your word, dude.

I suppose that’s all the more reason to listen to Keyleth and not trust the dragon.

Except they do.

To get something more powerful than the vestiges they already have. Weren’t we getting these things last season because they were the only thing powerful enough to defeat the Chroma Conclave?

Now we have to get something else because the supposed powerful vestiges are not powerful enough. Was the lady who told us to get these things just pulling our leg? Oh right, I left out a crucial detail to your mission. You got to get this extra super special vestige that someone else wants as well.

That will happen to steal it as you try to steal it.

Honestly, I really don’t care, I’m just amused. We’re going around collecting shiny things like we aren’t as weird as the dragons. Maybe not as murderous. But hey, there’s still time.

Oh, Keeper Yennen was dead either. Which is good. I liked her. Just looked up. Which might be the nicest thing any of the dragons have done thus far.

Oh, right! Also, last but most certainly not least, the smoke demon thing that lived in Percy’s gun during the first season isn’t actually dead. He just found a new roommate.

HOW?!

How did you survive the acid trip? I could have sworn we say him die. How is he not dead? And why of all people did he team up with Anna Ripley?

Although, that’s pretty self-explanatory given that she’s a pretty rage filled person and that appears to be what smokey feeds off of. Who seems pretty pissed at Percy for dumping him during season one.

I mean, I suppose that’s fair since you were dumped in acid.

However, you are terrible and tried to get him to kill his friends. It was sort of justifiable smoke breath. He doesn’t seem to see it that way though.

And because Percy ran off by himself, leaving the rest of the team behind, not only do they not know they’re looking for Anna Ripley. But they most certainly are not with him to discover she’s not alone.

I’m telling you, don’t separate the party should be a sacred rule. We should tie these people together. This is a terrible idea.

It was bad enough Scanlan was across town getting chewed out by his daughter who hates him. Not that I can really blame her. I would not want Scanlan for a father.

Overall, it’s a good opener. I do not believe the dragon is on Vox Machina’s side and I hope that Keyleth gets a great I-told-you-so moment. That would be nice.

It’s going to be interesting getting them out of jail and finding Percy. Not to mention dealing with Mr. doom and gloom again after thinking we destroyed him. Anna Ripley herself.

Romances are in trouble around here as well, so we’ll see how that goes.

Since Vax couldn’t keep his word for one day. I’m sure Keyleth is going to love that. Vex is arrested and Percy is missing in action. Scanlan is dealing with his daughter and is Scanlan which hinders his romance with Pike.

You know, the normal stuff.

Let’s see how the rest of this season goes! Onto the next!
