Another amazing episode of Vox Machina.
Vax learns what the Raven Queen wants from him.
Keyleth makes a terrible amount of noise when she’s following people through the woods.
Scanlan cannot remember to literally save his life who Kaylie’s mother might be. Instead, he tells a story of a random woman who is not her mother. Then plays guessing games.
I’m surprised she didn’t just stab him.
On the other hand, that’s a cool sword with a neat trick.
Vex knows Keyleth has feelings for Vax.
I’m sorry. Was this not common knowledge? It’s sort of obvious. I mean, they’re both clearly crushing on each other. Although, Vax has been standoffish since his deal with the Raven Queen. Which I can’t blame him for. He had no idea what he signed up for until now.
Thordak wants his gold. Umbrasyl wants more vestiges.
They’re not seeing eye to eye on this.
At all.
Grog’s cousin offers him, Kevdak’s old weapon, and much to his confusion – Grog asks the weapon if it speaks. When it does not reply. He’s thrilled and his cousin confused.
I – however – am thrilled Grog learned his lesson and will not be picking up anymore weapons that speak to him.
Lesson learned. Hooray.
Percy builds a prototype of the device they want to use to capture Umbrasyl. He explains it – in detail – to the herd. Why he thought that was a good idea – is beyond me.
No. You know what? Never mind.
I know why.
Percy loves to show off how smart he is to everyone who will listen. Regardless of whether or not they’re listening. He’s just babbling and the herd happened to be in the room while he nerded out.
Only to end up with his hand stuck in his own trap.
While the herd believes him to be dumb.
Got to love how that one worked out.
Loved the oversimplification to the herd. ‘You, dig here.’
Well, shit, Percy why didn’t you say so?
Then Percy tries to explain it’s actually far more complicated than that. Yes. Percy. It is. However, all they need to know is their part in the play so they can get to work. Every little detail does not concern them. That’s what they have you for.
So just tell them what you need.
Far easier.
Probably faster too.
Scanlan uses the worst metaphor ever to explain he just found out about his daughter.
Despite telling Scanlan that he’s her father, Kaylie wants very little to do with him. And he continues to put his foot in his mouth as he tries to explain that he wants to get to know her and be part of her life. She would rather he do something to prove he’s more than the empty promises he gave to her mother.
Ouch.
Not that I blame her.
It must hurt like hell.
They plan a trap for Umbrasyl. He lands and everything goes horribly wrong from start to finish.
By that I mean, he doesn’t even set the trap off properly. Apparently, he realizes this is suspicious as f*ck and stops before the trigger plate.
Quick thinking multiple times from Vex keeps them in the game.
She sets off the trap. Finds him when he turns invisible.
Did not know that was a power he had. Yikes.
Dragons are no joke in D&D man.
So everyone say thank you to Vex for keeping them in the game when everything was going horribly wrong.
Umbrasyl breaks free of the trap. Turns invisible and starts melting everyone. I’m pretty sure we need to thank Keyleth for just hauling up the Earth from time to time to block the acid spray he’s got.
Vax agrees that Scanlan wins in the just figuring out some crazy shit department.
Although, I think finding out you’re the champion of the Raven Queen and she wants you to help ensure that people follow their destinies and the keep the threads together is crazier than a long-lost daughter. Like that’s a thing that could happen to people.
This is not.
Grog deals damage.
And Scanlan and Vax have a terrible plan. That works. Until it doesn’t.
These people are a mess. Like you can see that Vox Machina attempts to be far more organized than the Mighty Nein. They made a plan and executed it to the best of their ability. It’s just the person they were using their plan on, busted up the plan, and caused them to improvise.
The Mighty Nein come up with a plan and then improvise for no reason. They just toss a perfectly good plan out the window for no reason and then go off the cuff.
Learn nothing from that experience and do it again and somehow don’t die!
Ridiculous.
Although, as pointed out by my girlfriend, you can definitely see the threads of chaos that will lead to the creation of the chaos that is the Mighty Nein start showing as we deal with campaign one’s adventures.
This episode is a wild trip.
That ends with Vax and Scanlan inside the dragon attempting to use the sword Kaylie left with Scanlan to hold Umbrasyl in place. And it works for like a minute, until the dragon has had enough, and just lets the sword tear through his stomach.
Ouch. Dude.
Crazy much?
He takes off to the sky, heading for home. Grog latches onto him.
Vax and Scanlan are knocked around and taken away as unwilling passengers for this journey. How nice.
So yeah. That was an episode and I sincerely doubt things are just going to get better as they continue to fight a freaking dragon. Yeesh. Or at least try to rescue their friends.
Onto the next! If you enjoyed this, please consider supporting my website.
