Stupid Wife: Christmas Special Episode 1 – Review

Catarina! What kind of mother are you?

For goodness sake. I hate that woman.

I care about nothing.

Nothing was hotter than Luiza storming into that room, defending her wife, and kicking that woman out of her home.

I love that scene so much, you have no idea.

I needed several minutes after watching it the first time. Then I watched it again and every time since, it gives me shivers.

Who doesn’t want a partner or hot woman coming to your defense?

Woo.

Don’t mind me. I’m just going to take another minute or several.

Thanks for your patience.

Where was I?

Luiza defending her wife. Right.

Everything about that scene was perfectly done. Kudos to Reis for nailing it perfectly as she encapsulated the rage, the love, and the fierceness she needed to sell that moment.

You could feel her outrage on behalf of her wife through the screen.

She wanted to tear Catarina to pieces.

And then she’s so soft when she goes to Valentina.

Her rage is gone and replaced with a soft love and tenderness as she tries to console her wife.

She’s states her pride. Reminds her that mother is spouting bullshit.

And I even loved that it doesn’t work.

Luiza wanted nothing more than to make her wife feel better, but Catarina’s words cut too deeply.

Valentina felt worthless.

Less than a mother.

Less than a wife.

Less than a daughter.

She was torn to shreds by someone who was supposed to love her unconditionally through the hard times.

Instead she has.. that.

No amount of love from Luiza was going to fix that moment.

But I loved the dynamic nonetheless because Luiza tried. She opened her heart and offered her support and love even knowing it might not work. She didn’t shy away when it didn’t work and respected her wife’s wishes.

She loved her.

Unconditionally.

She was everything Valentina needed.

It won’t work in the moment, but it will long term.

As for Valentina I totally get her perspective.

At first I thought it was a bit harsh to push away her wife. But sometimes, when you’re upset you can’t be comforted right then. You need to get it out.

Valentina needed to live that moment. Let the pain out so she can let love in again later.

Sometimes, you just got to go through things.

I loved that scene because of the care and love and respect that went into it.

It felt like a couple who has been together for a long time, coping with normal everyday problems.

Though I do hope no one else has a mother like this, I doubt it’s possible everyone could get that lucky.

This episode did provide lovely insight into what Luiza and Valentina’s relationship looked like before Luiza’s memory loss.

It illuminates perfectly why Valentina was so desperate to get her wife to fall in love with her again.

We can see perfectly, everything she lost.

Her defender. Her lover. Her partner in all things.

I loved this look into their lives.

I hate that Valentina has such a terrible mother.

I love that Léo wants a sibling so badly. Even as Valentina practically chucked him across the bed. That was funny.

So was the little boy making up lines as he went through this otherwise serious scene.

It did make me a bit uncomfortable that Luiza was willing to agree to give their son a sibling without consulting Valentina. But I also can see how much they both want another child, so it doesn’t seem totally out of the question that they’ll find a way.

Now, I have one final thought.

And I’ve had it since episode eight of season one.

How does Marcos put up with Caterina?

He seems like such a sweet man and loving father and husband. How can he love someone who belittle his daughter that way? How is he not outraged and filing for divorce?

I would be.

Please, tell me your thoughts! I’m dying to know what others think about Valentina’s parents’ relationship!
