Gran Turismo Sport – PS4

Not going to lie, I spent most of the weekend playing this game.

Like 90% of the weekend was spent playing this game.

Truth be told, I bought this game months ago. I played it once and was so overwhelmed with how many things you could do or control, I stopped playing.

Then on Friday, I wanted to play a video game.

I just didn’t feel like following a story or leveling up or trying to fight through bad guys.

I wanted something a bit more mindless.

So, I tried this game again.

After I managed to change the controls, so my acceleration was the R2 button instead of the x button, it became easier to play. I could brake and jump on the gas.

However, the car wobbled a lot when I tried to turn around corners.

It was not a smooth turn.

I also own a Nintendo Switch. I fell in love with a game on there called Gear Club. I had a similar problem and went out and purchased a steering wheel. My goodness, it made all the difference!

So I thought, I’ll look for a steering wheel for my Playstation too.

Yeesh!

These things are wildly more money than the Nintendo one.

They also had something called ‘Force Feedback’ whatever that is. I was lost amid a sea of expensive choices and not a lot of money to spend.

(Thanks to my Crohn’s keeping me from going to work.)

Thankfully, I have a local used video game store I love! I called them up and they had one on the cheap. So, I went over an purchased it!

I have the PlayStation T150 Thrustmaster.

Upon using it, I discovered what ‘Force Feedback’ was. It’s a work-out using this one. The one for Nintendo doesn’t have that little feature, nor did it require it’s own power. So this was a new thing for me!

But my goodness, it makes all the difference!

My Dad cobbled together a stand from wood we have lying around the workshop, and I set it up with my gaming chair.

I think I played the game for six to seven hours on Saturday.

I was having a blast!

The steering wheel made all the difference when it came to controlling the cars. The ability to feather the throttle or ease off turns made it easier to whip around corners and win races. By the end of Saturday, I was confident enough to try some of the professional levels!

I even won some of them!

Currently, I have reached level 20, which means I have unlocked all the tracks in Arcade mode.

If you want to play this racing game or any other, I highly recommend using a steering wheel! They are complete game changers!

Something, I can confidently say having used them on two different systems and found it so much better to race with!

As for the Gran Turismo Sport game itself, I still love Gear Club better.

The difference between the games was how the cars handled to me.

I own a Mini Cooper S from 2005 and in Gran Turismo Sport, you can buy this exact car. So I did.

It doesn’t drive like my car. It wobbled around corners.

You can’t get my car to do that. And no amount of tweaking in game seemed to stop the weird wobble effect.

In Gear Club, you started with a Mini Cooper, a later year with a Turbo. It handled exactly like my car, without the super charger, as the later years come with a turbo instead.

I hated giving up the Mini in Gear Club because it was such a wonderful recreation of my own car.

A type of car I have been in love with since The Italian Job from 2003.

I was happy to change cars in Gran Turismo Sport.

I went straight for a McClaren.

Which is by far my favorite car to drive in the game thus far. I started liking McClaren while watching Top Gear and while playing Gear Club solidified my affection.

The top two things I look for in cars is speed and cornering.

McClaren in Gear Club, did the best at putting it’s power to the wheels, and maneuvering corners without loss of speed.

I expected this game to be a bit different, but after some tweaking. I loved driving it.

Overall, this is a really solid game.

And I look forward to purchasing the Gran Turismo 7, which according to comparisons to this game, is a solid update to how cars handle.

Can’t wait!

And when I do finally get to play it, you’ll see my review! So stick around and subscribe!
