This is another messy couple on my list this year.
They’re basically trying to kill each other every time they’re on screen together. I’m also entirely certain that Rio just lives to annoy Agatha and vice versa.
Agatha fell in love with Death.
Then Death took her son.
And Death is taking the break-up pretty hard because it wasn’t her fault that she took Agatha’s son. She was merely doing her job.
Though Agatha doesn’t understand that. She’s just pissed off that Death took her child. Even though Rio did everything she could to buy Agatha more time with her son.
Or their son.
It does appear that Rio is the baby’s other parent. Considering when choosing the actor, they specifically choose someone who looked like the actress playing Rio.
This is a couple struggling through the loss of their child and what that means for their relationship. And what it means is that it is now everyone’s problem. Because Agatha is going to make it everyone’s problem as often as possible. Especially Rio’s.
Who just won’t leave her alone either.
Because Rio desperately wants Agatha to understand that she didn’t want to take their son.
It was beyond her control.
This show and couple once again bring up a concept I first saw on Charmed. That Death is not evil. It simply is.
It’s part of life.
It does not target people maliciously. It is not an evil entity plotting the world’s doom or destruction. It is simply part of life. If there is life, there must also be death.
As a child, this concept stuck with me because it made complete sense. Being mad at the inevitable is pointless. Sometimes, child logic is really helpful. Watching Charmed I understood that Death would come for us all. Not because it hated us or because it was evil. It simply is.
That is how life works.
Death is the end.
It will happen. Regardless of your feelings on the subject.
Fighting it or yelling at it becomes wasted effort.
Not that I’m saying give up on life or anything. But the truth is that we will all simply just not live forever. It is the truth. One of the things we consider most certain in the universe.
Raging against it brings you nothing.
I really loved the concept that Charmed put forth and allowed me to form an interesting attachment to the idea of death. We do not have to like it or wish for it to come. We can avoid it when we can. However, when it comes to pass – raging at the world for the mere existence of death will not help.
It will not allow for you to move on or grieve properly by wishing you could just erase death.
Death is not the enemy.
It simply is.
And anger will not make grief easier. In fact, I truly believe it will cause more pain.
See Agatha and Rio here. Instead of allowing this to draw them closer. To relish in still having each other, Agatha pushes Rio away. Blaming her for something that is far beyond her control. Something she could not stop no matter how much power she has. Agatha could still choose a form of happiness for herself.
Someone to share in her grief and misery in the loss of their child. Someone who understand the pain like no one else in the world because she feels it too.
Anger isn’t helping her. It’s hurting her.
I really love the theme here. But I also just love these two characters because they’re just so messy and complicated. Completely in love with each other in the worst of ways. Obsessed with each other. Intent on each other. While also intent on getting as far from each other as possible.
Yet, it’s impossible.
I really enjoyed this couple and I don’t think I had them on my list before. So it was nice to add them.
Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoy this and if you did, please consider supporting!
Spread the love and read on!
