So, I’ve been dying to see this movie.
Ever since people praised Chris Evans for playing such an excellent villain. Whoo, boy, were they not wrong.
My goodness, Lloyd needed help. I was actually kind of disappointed to see him die. I’m never disappointed to see a villain die. Never.
I can’t remember watching another villain get killed and think ‘aw, I was having fun watching his ridiculousness.’
Why?
Plus, I know this is based on a book series, so there should theoretically be more movies, and you’re going to deprive the world of seeing Chris Evans be such a damn fine crazy villain.
His little fit after Six had broken out his two hostages and he kicked one guy and shoots the other was so extra. I laughed. Like? What? Who does this? Was it written like this in the book series?
I think I totally want to read this unhinged author.
Because all of these characters were a little unhinged in their own ways.
Like Six who never appeared to feel pain. He was stabbed so many times and he just kept going. Kept walking. Didn’t even react. How truly awful was his childhood that he was completely devoid of feeling pain?
Lloyd’s college friends who covered this shit up and killed each other and seemed to have no moral fiber whatsoever? Like who are these people? How did they manage to get so high up without having triggered so psych evaluation somewhere?
I thought it was totally laughable that Suzanne thought she could keep Six under wraps.
As long as you have the girl. How long did you truly think you could hold onto that girl?
You literally just witnessed him take on Lloyd to find that girl. Did you really think he was just going to play nice? That he didn’t have a brain or something? A plan?
Were you not paying attention to anything that happened?
I was totally hoping that those two idiots were going to get killed by Six on his way out. Alas, perhaps that’s another movie.
I look forward to it.
I loved Six at the end. “Can I chew gum here?”
He’s such a wiseass without being a wiseass.
Also, what happens to the CIA agent who helped him? She promised to keep quiet as long as the little girl was safe. What happens now that Six has her?
Also is Six a father now? Did he just adopt the girl? Are we going to see him balance fatherly duties with trying to take down corrupt jerks?
That sounds hilarious. Sign me up.
I may have to find these books and read them.
Now, as for Ryan Gosling, he’s one of those actors that surprised me. After seeing him in the Notebook, I didn’t expect him to be much of anything.
But damn.
I actually love him as an actor.
I’ve seen him in Crazy, Stupid, Love and Gangster Squad, and a few others. He’s actually a wonderful actor, but this might be my favorite outing of his thus far.
He was so tongue in cheek funny, calm, cool, and collected as Six. He played the part perfectly. A man who knows what he’s capable of and is willing to go to any length or do anything to protect innocent people or the ones he cares about.
I loved that he wanted to clear the courtyard, that he didn’t want to hurt the kid, so he risked everything.
Gosling gave the air of someone who knows he’s making a dangerous choice to protect someone else, but knows he wouldn’t choose anything else. He’ll fight and die before he lets someone get hurt if he can prevent it.
Usually by making it harder on himself.
Gosling also manages the tongue in cheek humor so well.
“007 was taken.”
I loved his portrayal.
Now, for the part I loved the most. His interactions with Lloyd.
He and Chris Evans seemed to be enjoying themselves so much as they faced off against one another. Gosling seemed amused by the insanity coming from Evans. Evans seemed to be enjoying being the bad guy instead of the hero who always gets up.
Instead, he’s the one trying to take down the guy who doesn’t stop coming.
It was delicious!
And so much part of the reason I didn’t want Llyod to die!
I wasn’t ready for their bitterness to end.
They were so much fun to watch.
Especially as Llyod got more and more pissed that Six didn’t even seem to view him as a threat. Six seemed to regard Llyod as a thorn in his side. Something to be removed and disinfected, not an equal or actual opponent.
Which, clearly, Llyod has ego issues and can’t stand to be forgotten or treated like he’s nothing.
But Llyod, you were a fresh little daisy walking into that fight in the fountain.
Six hasn’t slept since he was tranquilized and shoved in a trunk. He’s been moving and fighting every moment since his mission went sideways.
You think you’re better?
Then you should have ended him in five seconds in that fight.
I don’t think you’re better. You’re not even in the same league. A little sting here and there and you cried. You took a seat at one point!
Llyod thinks he’s amazing. But he pays a whole team to do what he can’t.
And he’s definitely not Six who didn’t seem concerned about the fight at all.
Le sigh.
I think I could talk about how much I loved this movie all day, if I don’t stop myself.
Tell me what you thought about this movie! And if you haven’t seen it yet and love crazy action movies that have you on the edge of your seat in the best way the whole movie, check it out!
