Alright, I know. Christmas is over.
Guess what?
I don’t care right now, I want to talk about how much I loved this movie!
A Chance for Christmas stars Tori Anderson as Christina Chance. Christina is social media star, her platform is all about life hacks to spend more time with the family. The whole world thinks she has the perfect life. Great parents, perfect husband, and two perfect chipper kids. She’s given a chance to takeover a huge company’s entire social media accounts if she can get 2 million engagements on Christmas Eve.
Devon – who works for love handles – is supposed to see she crosses the finish line and get the engagements since he vouched for her.
Except he’s never met her. He only knows what he sees online.
And well – her entire life is a lie.
Her parents are divorced, her kids hate working on her channel, and her so called perfect husband is a longtime friend of hers who is actually dating Christina’s mother.
This family is as far from perfect as it gets.
Thus, chaos ensues when Devon finds out the truth when he decides to surprise her on Christmas Eve to help her out.
However, the day doesn’t go as planned and they’re both fired. They both wish they could start the day over and get what they ‘need.’ The real live Santa warns them to be careful because Christmas wishes have a way of coming true.
And so it does…
More chaos ensues as Christina and Devon are forced to relive Christmas day over and over and over again.
This movie is a rip-roaring good time!
Personally, even if it wasn’t centered around Christmas this movie stands without it just fine. Christina and Devon have a series of wonderful scenes as they try to work out what is happening.
Honestly, watching them suffer mental breaks and the five stages of grief over what on Earth is happening to them while they try to figure out how to get what they ‘need’ when they have no clue what that is!
Each day the two learn something new and different whether about themselves or the people around them.
Also, I can’t help but enjoy that every actor manages to play the ‘who are you’ card to Devon over and over again with the same seriousness as the first time. Something, that happens far too often in these sorts of things is that characters get used to the oddness happening around them even when they’re unaware of the repeating day.
However, this movie has the actors as confused every time they ‘meet’ Devon. Getting even more confused when he knows things about them and they’ve never met him.
This movie cracks me up.
And Tori Anderson is rapidly becoming one of my favorite actresses! Her facial expressions and small nuances she brings to her characters really brings them to life.
I love the way she wakes up late the first time the day repeats and her kids are confused. She infuses the right amount of silly playfulness, and care into her voice when speaking to her son. I love that Tori brings such a warmth to her character while also making it clear she’s a mom who is trying to keep things together as best she can for her kids but gets it wrong sometimes.
Tori Anderson’s genuine smile and perfect expressions allow her to give solid portrayals without speaking. Not to mention give her great laughs for all her ticks when she is not the sole focus of a scene.
As for Mykee Selkin, he fills in all the gaps. Tori steals the movie and is the highlight of it all. But Mykee brings his A-game.
He’s funny, sweet, charming, and matches the perfect amount of crazy needed to go with Tori’s performance. He has no problem being the background man, who makes everything work while Tori shines which compliments the characters nicely because that’s who they’re playing.
He never gets overshadowed, but he holds his own. And also, his zaniness is a perfect complement as he quietly or loudly loses his mind.
Honestly, these two actors shine! I would love to see a sequel for this movie.
Or see these two in something else together, preferably a comedy.
This movie had me laugh out loud and cry and experience it with the characters.
This is definitely going to be a new holiday staple and maybe even a year-round feel-good movie for me!
