The Legend of Vox Machina: The Fey Realm – Review

The sword has been murdered!

I’ve never been so excited to see someone smash a sword to pieces in my entire life.

Also, thank Everlight that Pike could just straight up heal herself or that could have been way worse. Also, I cannot begin to tell you how much I love Pike.

Just straight up asking Grog who he was going to trust – this sword or her?

That answer is pretty obvious. Especially to Grog who then just starts smashing the sword into the ground and rocks and whatever he can to completely destroy it. While the piece of evil metal tries to convince him not to do that. To no avail.

Thank goodness.

Except – well – the sword promised to take Grog with him.

And despite the fact that he’s lost all his strength, even the ability to drink by himself or stand or walk. You know? The basics. Besides that, I was just super happy that Grog was still alive.

For a solid second there, I thought the sword intended to kill him.

I was horrified. Like no! Don’t kill Grog! Pike will be devastated! I’ll be devastated! We’ll lose the biggest source of humor in the show.

But no, he wasn’t dead. Just a little weakling.

Which to me – is way better than death.

However, Grog is not feeling the same sort of grateful since he cannot do anything for himself and has a truly shitty journey.

Loses his pants, is used as a boat, and dropped off a cliff. Attacked by birds.

This was not Grog’s day.

Although, the montage is hilarious and wonderful. I could have watched an entire episode of them trying to haul Grog around.

Too bad for him that they couldn’t find that cart sooner. Might have saved him several concussions and bruises.

Then they arrive at a little cottage together.

On their side of things, we had a nice moment between Scanlan and Pike only for Scanlan to completely screw it up.

Dude!

For someone who wants to find real, true love, you sure know how to mess it up when you get a glimpse of it. There was no need to mention a naughty nurse outfit. Like? What were you thinking?

What was going through your mind in that moment?

This is a nice touching moment, where Pike has said something really nice to me. She’s looking at me funny, like she might like me. Like like me.

I know! I should say the swarmest thing I can think of to ruin the moment!

Scanlan! Read the f*cking room!

My goodness.

Like I know they end up together somewhere along the way, but it is truly a wonder considering how easily Scanlan shoves his foot in his mouth. Each time he does so, he reminds Pike of why she steers clear of him in any romantic fashion.

As her face clearly pointed out when he opened his mouth.

Like, right, yeah. This is why I shouldn’t give into these feelings. He’s just a playboy.

He doesn’t want anything real.

Well, Scanlan, if you want something real – you have to be real as well. Vulnerable. Not cover it up with idiotic bravado and innuendo.

Dumbass.

As for the rest of the group, they have been dropped into the Fey Realm and Percy claims because he read some books on this place, that he can navigate them through it. I don’t know about anyone else, but I did not need to watch anything to know that he most certainly did not know anything about the Fey Realm.

Again, as I pointed out last week. This place defers the laws of physics. Something I’m pretty sure Percy likes. It’s orderly.

Makes sense.

He can wrap his mind around what’s happening.

There are rules to be followed.

Based on the upside-down waterfalls, mountains that aren’t mountains, and sticks that are really snakes – this place follows no logic.

Perhaps, this is just the inside of Matt Mercer’s mind.

A place of chaos and wonder where anything can happen, so watch your f*cking step.

Of course, everything is not as it seems and the place seems to take a personal vendetta against Vax because he’s aligned with the Matron of Ravens. Sure.

Why not?

Vex and Keyleth end up super drugged out and useless to the fight.

Though their hallucinations are hilarious.

I agree with Vex as well, that is not what I thought Trinket would sound like.

Then there’s Keyleth who spent most of the episode calling the plants of this realm assholes only to feel terrible about it. Which is very Keyleth of her.

Apologizing to them while she’s whacked out of her mind. Thinking she’s discovered the secrets of the universe to the amusement of Vex. Although, she might have been more amused if she were not feeling super hungover at the moment. Only for Keyleth to just vomit everywhere.

Percy realizing they were utterly useless to him was funny.

Because he’s like oh great, two of our best in this already smaller party without a healer are down.

Meanwhile, Trinket is just chilling with Vex. Heaven help whoever tries to hurt her while she’s drugged up.

For the first time since Vex died, Vax and Percy manage to work together to defeat the evil thing chasing them. Well, Vax. By dumping water on it.

Yep, the solution was the same one from the Wizard of Oz. Just pour water and all your problems will go away.

However, that was not the only thing happening in the Fey Realm as Vex discovers an odd little imp or something following them around, doodling in their notebook. His name is Garmelie.

From the moment this little shit arrived on screen all I could think was that he reminded me of Jester and the Traveler.

Jester with the notebook and the vulgar drawings. But the Traveler in personality. Flitting from thing to thing. Powerful magic and all. With the same type of hair.

I do also know that he was originally from the Few Wild, so I’m just watching him the entire time, and wondering if this is the Traveler.

Is it him?

It has to be right.

That would also be amazing because the person who catches him following them is Vex.

Laura Bailey.

AKA Jester.

It would just be a perfect little detail. But I do not know the specifics of how Vox Machina meets him in the campaign. But Garmelie just feels like the Traveler. The wicked little imp causing chaos and mischief without really hurting anyone.

Sure, he drew some… things.

But he didn’t seem to be there to hurt them. Just watch. Possibly annoy. Offer help. But is otherwise pretty harmless.

It’s got to be him, right?

Anyway, as Vox Machina struggles on hoping to survive, collect the vestiges, and hopefully reunite, we’ve got a little dragon chat happening.

Thordak wants his gold and Umbrasyl wants to collect more of the vestiges as he has teamed up with Ripley. That simply cannot be good for anyone.

Oh and Matt Mercer as Umbrasyl is amazing. Lovely. Wonderful.

Thordak agrees to let him find the vestiges as long as it doesn’t interfere with his plans. How nice of him. Oh, and he still wants his gold. So you know, typical dragon stuff.

I know one thing though – we should for sure not let Umbrasyl or Ripley have the vestiges. Nope.

Onto the next! See you next week! If you enjoyed this, please consider supporting!
