I don’t recall exactly how old Miriam said she was, but I do know that it’s old enough that she does not need to explain her whereabouts to her parents.
For sure old enough for that.
Especially since she has two babies of her own and has been managing her own household.
Just a thought.
That entire scene was utterly ridiculous. He’s going to ground her? He took away her TV? To what end? Make himself more miserable.
Wasn’t that why they were getting the TV in the first place?
So Abe could read in the living room in peace after dinner without worrying that his grandson was going to start screaming his head off because he can’t watch his TV show. It honestly started off with very little to do with Miriam wanting to watch TV.
Absolutely ridiculous.
Trying to sneak in.
Nope, she walked through the front door like a normal person would.
Left the baby here.
Well, you are the grandparents, and she said she was going out for a while. I assume that meant you were taking care of the infant child. That you agreed. Some consensuses about the baby had been reached.
Do you know where your son is?
Her response was hilarious.
But also, did you not worry about that enough to try and call her sooner? Just wait to point it out until she gets home. I’m sure it’s fine just leaving the three-year-old alone somewhere out in the world. He’s all good.
No need for adult supervision.
I also have a new reason to dislike Joel. It’s not that he’s living with his girlfriend that he cheated on his wife with. Not that he’s moved basically across the street to live out some weird version of the life he already had. As Miriam points out as well, that he didn’t want anything to do with anymore either.
He wanted out!
He didn’t want their life anymore.
It has nothing to do with that.
I have two reasons, and one is way more annoying to me than the other.
He only wanted his son.
Not the baby. Not his daughter. He only requests taking his son for a while and maybe letting him sleep over because he has a bed for him.
No crib?
What the eff dude?
You have two kids, not one. Just because one is still in diapers, she doesn’t count? Can you not change a freaking diaper?
I’m willing to bet anything he does not.
Or is it because it’s a girl? You only need to be there for your son, not your daughter. Because you think she won’t notice because she’s so young?
Your daughter only needs her mother.
Although, I’m not going to lie, the kid might need something. He has been staring at members of his family oddly. Oddly enough, that his mother felt compelled to read a book she never had before to try and understand him. Except the book’s advice boiled down to ‘you got this.’
Which, f*cking unhelpful.
Miriam also decided he was plotting things. Maybe to kill her. He might accelerate his timetable. Very funny. Loved that, by the way.
But Joel? Come on, man, you’ve got two kids.
Not one. Get with the freaking program here. You need to spend time with both, not just pick and choose because this one has a di*k and is out of diapers, therefore he’s easier. Not to mention, he’s the one who will more than likely carry on your name. Got to make sure you get that to stick properly for your son. Raise him to be just like you.
A jerk who only wants to spend time with one of his kids.
As for the second reason I dislike Joel – just last freaking episode he wanted ‘to give another go’ with his wife.
She said no. Rightfully, I might add.
Following that, he immediately moves in with his girlfriend. Which tells me something. He’s a complete jerk. A butthead, if you will. Like you suck so much man.
Because either he broke it off with Penny to get back together with Miriam and then changed his mind and took her back when his wife told him to pound sand.
Or! He never broke it off with Penny in the off chance that Miriam didn’t want him back, he had a back-up plan because this man cannot be without some woman to take care of him.
Either way, he’s an ass.
Just flitting from woman to woman, whichever one will have him.
Oh, and if he did break up with Penny before attempting to get his wife back and then she took him back, she’s dumber than Miriam makes her out to be. Yikes.
As for Miriam – who I like most of the time – she attended a protest by complete accident.
Which was hilarious to me.
Once again it cements how stupid yet intelligent she is. She’s very bright, but she didn’t really pay attention to the goings on in the world once she was married. She didn’t have a use for that information anymore. Women – once married – weren’t required to use their brains. At least, not unless they were helping their husbands, of course.
Joel doesn’t strike me as a guy who goes to protests.
Yet, the moment she understands what’s happening, she’s rightfully offended and in full agreement. She has a brain, but she hasn’t used it beyond keeping her house and husband for anything.
Now, she’s getting to see the world and understand it too.
I loved that her and Susie spent some time together, even if it was weird, and somewhat awkward. The little jaunt to the comedy records store was amazing as Miriam learned more about the world she wanted to be part of.
There’s a saying to the effect of, that if you’re willing to learn, there’s no one in the world who could stop you.
I feel like Miriam is the epitome of that quote.
She will make things happen out of force of will, if need be.
All in all, it ends with Miriam understanding that she needs independence to avoid needing her parents for things. Taking away their power over her.
Joel had power by having the money and being the man. Forcing her back home once he left. Forcing her under her parents’ thumbs.
But with her own money?
She could do anything she wants.
Get her own place, her own TV, and anything else she desires. Parents be damned.
I loved that Miriam is slowly learning to trust herself and make the choices she wants to get what she wants. She wants to be comedian, so she’s soaking up as much information as possible from as many places as possible. She needs money to keep out from her parents’ control so they can’t ground her as a grown woman.
She needs a job.
She moves swiftly into these choices and I love it.
What I don’t understand is why she’s not telling her mother that Joel came back, and she kicked him to the curb? How long are we going to keep up the false hope that they’re going to get back together? How long do you think you can hide that from your mother?
We also need to for sure knock some sense into these people.
Miriam is the only one moving forward out of the group and she should be the most shell-shocked and in denial.
Yet, she’s like, nope. Dust myself off. Get up. Move out. Move on. Yell at Joel when he’s stupid. Follow a new dream. Get a job. Do as she pleases.
I love that for her.
More women in the era need that.
Including Miriam’s mother.
Well, I guess I shall see. You may have already seen, I don’t know what you watch. It’s been out for a while. I’m late to the party. Don’t judge.
As always, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading! Please do me a kindness like or comment or subscribe or share.
