10. Batman

I know most of you will be shocked to see Batman so on the list. But hey, he can’t be everyone’s favorite!
Batman is on my list of favorite heroes for sure, regardless. The latest installment of Batman movies featuring Robert Pattinson is a highlight for me. I do so love when they showcase his detective skills over all else.
He is considered the world’s greatest detective, and I don’t feel that’s played into enough on the big screen. Certainly not in the Snyderverse.
I’m looking forward to his next big screen drop in 2027. I can only hope they follow up the first part with the same care as part one had.
Who else is looking forward to the new movie coming out?
9. Steel
John Henry Irons! He might be a lesser-known hero, but that doesn’t make him any less heroic.
While I have liked all the versions we’ve been presented with, the one from Superman & Lois is – by far – my favorite.
His connection to Lois Lane on his earth, combined with their shared daughter, and how he lost his wife created compelling storylines throughout the show. I loved his portrayal and that he found it within himself to see the Superman of this earth for the hero he is.
Not only that but join forces in a truly powerful scene where Steel could kill Superman to save everyone. But chooses to help him fight instead.

8. Captain America

Captain America holds a special place in my heart for many reasons. But if I’m being honest, in the current climate I think he’s more relevant than ever.
Just a handful of days ago, I saw a comic panel of him complaining that the America he woke up, is not the one he fought for. They’ve become everything they fought against. I thought it was a modern-day comic.
It wasn’t.
It was from the 80s.
Captain America represents the ideals of America and the quote, ‘the price of liberty, is eternal vigilance.’
7. Captain Marvel
To be honest, until 2019 I didn’t know who Captain Marvel was. Not in the slightest. Then her movie dropped and so did a lot of complaints about her lack of smiling.
A group of friends and I saw her movie in theater multiple times and I loved it more than the last.
I like that she doesn’t apologize for who she is and doesn’t feel the urge to prove herself to anyone.
There’s a part of me that thinks we should all be a bit more like Captain Marvel.

6. Flash

Grant Gustin is the Flash, plain and simple. I’ve seen many versions in cartoons and live action. But he is far and away the best Barry Allen.
However, I think one of the things I love so much about this character is how light and happy he typically is. He’s always got a joke or a light-hearted remark. He can be serious, but he’s also thrilled.
To be a hero. To be alive. Even through darkness or dark days or mistakes he makes. He never lets them ‘slow’ him down. He faces every day, and I think that’s important thing.
We can all let life get to us from time to time. Flash reminds us to enjoy the little things in life. Like lots of food.
5. Phantom
A legacy hero, the first hero, and one of my favorites.
The Phantom has vowed to fight piracy, greed in all its forms. A vow passed down from father to son for 400 years. You might not know his story, but it’s never too late to catch up.
With his skintight purple suit, his legend, animal companions, and more, he fights to stop evil from spreading.
His mantra is simple, his mission easy to understand, and he is a normal man with extraordinary skills trying to do right in the world.
I love the simpleness of his story, but his good heart as well. All of the Phantoms’ good hearts.

4. White Canary

I don’t think this is a thing beyond the Arrowverse, but I’m okay with that. Sara Lance is a dynamic character, capable of great good, and great evil.
Her walk toeing the line of those things while she tries to move forward in her life is a journey I love. I followed her to Legends of Tomorrow despite not loving the show at first, simply because I was invested in her.
Her character fascinated me. Especially as she became a well-respected captain. Her feeling of being unworthy of the title and loyalty offered to her, while also being so worthy.
Her struggle with her darkness and her goodness is one of my favorite stories.
3. Batwoman
You know, at first, I thought Batwoman was going to be a knock-off of Batman. One of those things where we have a woman now, so it’s equal but they put zero effort into her character and story.
Well, this isn’t that. Kate Kane is now a fully fleshed out character with trials and tribulations. She’s not perfect, but she tries every day. What more can you ask of someone?
I think more people should see her story and that the character got the short end of the stick from the Arrowverse. Which is why I’m so excited to see her new comic next year by Greg Rucka!

2. Spider-Man

Spider-Man is the every man. It’s what makes his character so timeless and relatable. He has regular problems just like everyone else. He could be anyone under that mask.
And when I’m feeling down because life has dealt me a shitty hand, he’s the hero I turn to. Because no matter how terrible things are, he gets up every day and does the best he can.
It sucks. He knows it, I know it, we all know it sucks. But he never stops doing the right thing. He never stops getting up and trying to make today just a little bit better.
He draws me in because he struggles and when I’m struggling, I remind myself that a normal guy like Peter can get up, so can I.
1. Superman
On the flip side, if I’m feeling hopeless or sick, I turn to Superman. Because I know, that in the end, he’ll save the day. Everything will turn out alright.
Spider-Man fits moments of tragedy. Superman is the hero I need when I’m without hope. When I’m down in the dumps and need to know that everything will be okay again one day.
I need a story and a hero who makes me believe better days will come again. That he always looks for a better tomorrow, that it’s not foolish to think that way.
Superman brings me hope, joy, and comfort when I need it most. So fittingly his new movie dropped during one of the hardest years of my life. Returning hope to my life once again.
Thank you, Superman.
