These two are impossible.
I’m not sure which is worse, honestly.
They’re both just horrible at their feelings and being honest with each other. Apparently.
Though I do understand from Maya’s point of view, she’s clearly neck deep in some seriously illegal stuff, so I get not telling Giovanna some things. But I think you can say that instead of not wanting to be made a fool, that you’re upset.
While Giovanna could point out that Maya is still married with that as well and still ask for things not to be asked of her when Maya isn’t offering much.
At least, Maya could have been honest that it upsets her.
Also, Giovanna could be honest that it upsets her that Maya is still married. With no hint that she plans to leave her husband. Ever.
Despite having somewhat admitted they have feelings for each other, both to themselves, their friends, and each other. Sort of. I don’t know if that was truly a declaration of love or just sort of testing the waters to see where the other person stands.
Regardless, they know they’re falling in love with each other.
Yet they have no idea what the future holds.
Maya has given Giovanna zero reason to think they have a future since she’s still with Christopher and has never mentioned leaving him.
Giovanna has no idea that Maya secretly hates his guts.
She can probably gather they don’t have the best marriage, with all things considered. However, there’s still nothing leading her to believe that Maya would choose her over Christopher. Why should she get mad if there was another woman?
When there are three people already in this relationship.
And not in a mutual poly situation either.
There’s just a roadblock of man between them and Giovanna has no idea why.
Why does she stay with him? Why not choose her?
In the last episode, she mentioned she doesn’t think Christopher even knows how to properly care for Maya. Yet, Maya stays. It must be incredibly baffling to Giovanna.
Combine that with Maya’s steadfast refusal to be honest – at least about how she feels. That she doesn’t want Giovanna to see anyone else.
Maybe even hint that she won’t be with Christopher forever. I don’t know! Something! Before you lose her.
Oh wait.
We’ve might have ended up there anyway.
I did like Ana Clara telling Maya to let this end before she tries – for real – to be with Giovanna. As pointed out before, Nicole may be a police officer, but she’s in on this plot with them. Giovanna on the other hand, is completely in the dark.
With that, there are certain things getting in the way of you two being together.
I loved that Ana Clara clarified here that she wasn’t suggesting Maya be unhappy or without Giovanna forever. It was a matter of timing. Coupled with the fact that Maya hasn’t brought her in.
Not that I’m entirely sure she can.
Giovanna is a good cop.
How far will she bend for the woman she loves? I’m not sure.
She promised to arrest her, if she were the one they’re looking for. Would she? Now that she’s much deeper into their relationship than before.
So much so, that a phone call brings her running to Maya’s side wondering what has happened and if she’s alright. Nearly ignoring the other woman in the room.
Or that she called repeatedly to get a hold of her after she saw her at the restaurant.
How offended she looked when Maya asked how long they were seeing each other. Or when she asked her to leave. How close to tears she appeared. The woman who claims never to fall in love or have actual relationships, seems pretty invested in this one with Maya.
Chasing her down. Getting upset.
Seemingly upset that Maya is still with Christopher. That she’s married and doesn’t care to change that fact.
The little pull away when she tried to kiss her hello and Giovanna looked like a wounded puppy. Will that woman be able to arrest Maya?
Maybe after this little tiff. Otherwise? I’m not so sure.
We might be getting to a point where Giovanna is more pliable about her job than before.
However, regardless of that, Maya has some new problems I would suppose. Because Giovanna isn’t convinced that Hector is behind everything.
Clarisse wanted to give her something but was murdered before she could. Then the killer took the folder. How do they prove that she and Hector weren’t in on it together?
Something that Giovanna is keeping under wraps as well. She’s hinted before that she doesn’t believe that Hector is the one behind all this. At one point, it appeared she suspected Maya of being behind it all.
However, after this episode, I’m not so sure.
Her worry and concern as she raced into the gallery, led me to believe she firmly believes Maya’s innocence in everything. She was concerned something might have happened again.
So who does she think is responsible?
Also, I wasn’t truly certain who killed Clarisse and now I’m even less certain.
Like it could be Maya for sure. But Ana Clara also pointed out that she doesn’t think that Maya would really commit murder for this plan.
In fact, she’s carefully planned everything out including becoming Christopher’s wife to take him down. She had him point blank with a gun and still didn’t pull the trigger. Maybe it’s not even just about wanting him to suffer. I think she wants him to pay, but she will not taint her hands for it.
Maybe she really didn’t kill Clarisse.
Which would be good for her, because I don’t think Giovanna could overlook murder.
Based on whatever is on that video that made three women break down. I’m sure the rest could be conceivably justified to Giovanna. But murdered Clarisse might be one step too far for her.
Which is why I think it might have been Christopher.
I honestly just thought it was Maya before and it would inevitably fall into the tragedy part of their relationship.
However, after that little conversation in the car – I’m not sure. Both men assumed the other did it and were suspiciously absent around the time of the murder. Also, there’s nothing that I can remember to suggest that Maya knew Clarisse was looking into anything.
But the police chief knew that she was giving information to Giovanna and could have told Christopher. Leaving them both with a reason to want her dead.
Although, each deny it, you can tell there’s some truth there. Definitely for Christopher who tried to toss blame elsewhere. Which would make sense to try and get it off him. In fact, he’s the one to bring it up.
I’m not sure which of them did it or had someone do it, but I definitely think it was more likely one of them than Maya now.
But we shall see!
Then there’s the gun scene. I’m not sure what the hell we were supposed to think with that scene. I mean, did anyone really believe she brought Giovanna out there to shoot her?
I feel like that was the fake-out we were meant to buy, but it falls flat.
Maya is in too deep. And if she couldn’t bring herself to shoot Christopher, she sure as hell isn’t going to shoot Giovanna. Nope. No way.
Instead, they go skinny dipping and talk about their feelings. The scene is very cute and vulnerable in a way that’s true to the characters. Each of them trying to deny it while admitting it at the same time. Shyly smiling and kissing each other until they giggle so the vulnerable moment passes.
It’s very sweet.
This episode does mark an important turn in their relationship where they both acknowledge to each other that they’re emotionally entangled with each other. And neither of them really minds this fact, except for messing up their preplanned lives.
Which leads to having trouble hiding it.
Maya risks her cover multiple times and never more so here when she’s blatantly upset and ignoring Christopher because she sees Giovanna with another woman. Then she doesn’t even let him finish a sentence before marching over there to stake her claim. With Giovanna looking terrified while she does so.
Um, Maya, you’re supposed to be pretending you’re in love with your husband. Remember?
Not Giovanna.
Might want to keep that under wraps until you finish your super complicated chess game. Especially if you don’t want Christopher to be suspicious.
Just saying.
Oh, and one last note, what the eff was on that video they watched at the end? I mean, they were completely destroyed by it. What did Hector have? What is this? What’s going on? I needed one of them to say something, not just scream, and cry. Context! Please. I know you’re upset, but I – the audience – would like to know what’s happening!!!
Overall, this episode is amazing. The cast is stellar. The pacing is amazing. The production value appears to have increased wildly since the first half of season two which is amazing. Did you buy new cameras?
Seriously. I could not stop marveling over how much better this half looks.
Well done to the cast and crew. Also, I love the pacing of this half way better. The story is flowing nicely without a stretching it out too much. Kudos to the writers and directors for the wonderful work they are doing.
Lastly, I really am enjoying how this relationship is unfolding as these two realize how in love they are and thus how freaking screwed they are. I cannot wait to see what happens next! Can you?
