Harley Quinn: The Big Apricot – Review

Season five of Harley Quinn has dropped!

Whoooo!

My goodness, I always forget how much I enjoy this wild show until I sit down and watch it again. Every time, I forget. I’m like, shit this is really good. Every time.

While overall the show is amazing, it has it’s issues like everything. But the truth of the matter is that I’m so entertained the entire time I don’t really care.

I’m here for Harley and Ivy.

Rooting for them since day one of the series, I love this chaotic duo together.

And nothing proves that they are perfect together more than this episode right here.

First and foremost, they’ve been together so long they’re super comfortable with each other. Not just in a friends but a lovers way that happens when you and your partner are together for a while. You give up on the bra. And certain nice things.

But every once and a while, you love to dress up and go out for a night on the town together.

I love how normal and domestic those moments were.

Even Harley worrying about whether or not they were going to get bored with each other.

I mean, I think we’ve all been there at some point. But if you haven’t, I know I have. There are plenty of moments where I look at my girlfriend and wonder how this amazing human being puts up with me.

Especially when I don’t eat vegetables that she’s insists are good for me.

Yuck.

I love the two of them working so well together and it setting off sparks.

Because that happens. Sometimes, the sparks feel normal because you feel them so much around that person. Yet, every once in a while, they’ll catch you off guard.

The other person will do something that lights you up.

And in that moment, you’ll remember the reason you love them so much and can’t keep it to yourself.

I loved those moments.

I loved Ivy reassuring Harley that nothing will ever change.

I also loved the casual drop of a line like, “I love you with the passion of thousand firey suns.” Or something like that, because who just drops a swoon worthy line like it’s nothing?

Especially out of Ivy.

Because let’s take a quick walk back for a moment, just a couple of seasons ago she was about to marry someone else.

A person, mind you, that she never said that kind of shit to.

I fucking love that. Because it’s a prime example of how far Ivy has come as well.

Harley’s character arcs have been way more obvious while Ivy’s arcs occurred more quietly in comparison. Ivy has come a long way as well. From someone who couldn’t admit the way she felt about her best friend and feeling like she couldn’t trust Harley with her heart to Harley being her everything.

So much so they may or may not have a child together in the future.

Maybe.

They’re not quite sure they erased her or not.

Hopefully not altogether. I liked the weird daughter.

She needs to not hate her moms, but other than that I hope she’ll still exist.

I also love the background moments that happen. Nothing overshadows Ivy and Harley here like I felt it may have in the past seasons. Instead, this is how the show shines. Letting them take center stage while other things happen around them.

Like Bruce Wayne dating Lena Luthor.

Lena Luthor appearance.

No idea if I should trust her, but I’ve learned to just roll with this show. It’s easier.

Less guesswork, because I doubt I’ll ever be right about what crazy comes next.

Lex Luthor is in jail. Lois had her neck done. Harley and Ivy are going to see the same guy. Lena is handing Ivy the city on a silver platter.

Which like, did we learn nothing about trusting Luthors just handing us shit?

Poor Superman in the background depressed and feeling useless.

I loved that everyone assumes that Superman is having an affair with Clark and not that he is Clark. Honestly, that’s some pure Tumblr crack right there. I love it. Awesome as hell.

Black Cat and Batgirl didn’t last long as a team with Harley and Ivy.

Not surprising.

Still no idea what happened to Dick.

So I suppose he hasn’t appeared to them in a year or so.

Gotham is a shithole.

I’m not sure what the world could do with Gotham at this point, but it appears that it’s just been written off. Like we’re going to pretend it just doesn’t exist and let the bad guys happen there. Nothing else to see there.

Nope.

Just let it smell like pee.

Loved that ongoing gag.

Meanwhile, on the flip side there’s Metropolis. Which is freaking sparkling. Literally.

It’s a utopia!

Nothing bad can happen. Superman has helped clean up Metropolis and create a peaceful place to live. He has a museum.

And I thought it was an interesting take to say that if he has nothing to do as Superman, he wouldn’t know what to do with himself. It might not be true to character, but it also is.

Clark has never been able to give up being Superman before. Even when he’s had the chance.

What would he do in a world without crime? If everyone could just handle their own issues? Or if there were none?

It was new, I liked it.

It was a solid start to the season, and I cannot wait to see more! Can you?
