Superman 2025 Must Succeed

Okay, by now everyone has seen the teaser here for the new Superman movie due to come out this upcoming summer. And if you haven’t, well, you must be living under a rock.

Which, you know, now is a good time to click on the video above and watch it.

Because oddly, I loved this trailer.

From all the BTS and the hype for this movie, I’ve been super skeptical about it.

Everything made me think it was going to be another DC movie failure. Another disappointment to add to the collection of terrible DC movies and their inability to do the characters justice.

Then the trailer dropped. And I’ll admit, I went in with super low expectations.

I’m not kidding. I honestly expected nothing to interest me here. Another chance to try and copy all of Marvel’s original success with the MCU. Not it’s current state which I’m not even sure they know what they’re doing with it anymore.

I mean, see last week’s Superhero Sunday about Robert Downey JR. and Chris Evans returning, but not as their iconic roles.

Like, what…?

Anyway, back to Superman.

I thought nothing of it.

Sure, I was excited. How could I not be? I’ve loved Superman since I was a little kid in single digits watching Smallville and Superman: The Movie. He’s my favorite superhero and while others have been added to that list over the years, he’s still at the tip top for me.

So I watched the trailer.

And my goodness.

I had to show it to everyone.

I even bothered my girlfriend about it, who is not really a Superman fan. Thanks for putting up with my nerdy superhero stuff, baby!

This trailer is everything I wanted, from people who might actually understand the very premise and basis of the character of Superman. I loved David Corenswet convincing James Gunn to put him in the underwear because he doesn’t want to scare little kids. Superman wants to help people.

Not scare people.

Not rule people.

This is nothing like someone else’s version of Superman that made it a non-Superman movie.

This is Superman in a nutshell.

The essence of him is hope.

To strive for something better than what we are.

To be better.

To help those in need. Even if they’re our enemies. Hope to keep fighting, even in the bleakest of moments. Someone you could throw a can of soup at and know that he’s not going to heat vision you to death.

Because he’s a good person.

I love this.

Like Superman & Lois, there is a sense of struggle in his goodness.

That every time he wakes up and puts on the suit, humanity’s faith in him is tested. Their trust in him to do the right thing. And he upholds that, even if the trust is broken for whatever reason.

It’s a choice.

One he makes, every day.

It brings me to one of the most well written comics from Lois Lane’s perspective that the most powerful being on Earth gets up every day and chooses to be kind. He could be anything. But he chooses to be a good person.

In the face of adversity.

In the face of hardship.

Of people telling him not to.

Of smear campaigns from Luthor.

From death.

He never stops.

He does what’s right simply because it’s right. Regardless.

I love that.

I love the hope that he brings to humanity, reminding us that we can always choose to be better. Tomorrow is another day.

And his new saying is perfect for that, “Truth, justice, and a better tomorrow.”

Isn’t that what we all want?

In turbulent times. In uncertainty. In all the bad. We hope that tomorrow will be better.

Well, here’s a very non doom and gloom hero to remind you that tomorrow is another day to do better. He believes we can.

No matter what.

I think that is what makes Superman so powerful.

His ability to provide hope.

And this trailer exemplifies that.

Hope that this movie will be amazing. Will be different. Will be played by an actor like Tyler Hoechlin and Christopher Reeve who understand the character.

Or like George Reeves who managed to talk a child out of shooting him to prove whether or not he was bulletproof. By convincing him that the bullet would bounce and hurt an innocent person and neither of them would want that.

Christopher Reeve who made the world believe a man could fly.

I love the homage to that here as well with the poster for the new movie. Very nice. Alongside the remixed with a guitar version of his heroic theme from the 1978 movie.

Christopher Reeve who was a real-life hero trying to find a cure for those who are paralyzed.

I’m really excited for this movie, and I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched this new trailer.

Because it’s everything I want. And if the movie is anything like the trailer, it’s going to be amazing.

But it needs to be for the DCU’s sake.

Because I’m pretty sure this is their last chance to get a cinematic universe right before all the DC fans give up and go home.

I mean, that’s what I think. What about you guys? Will you stick around for more if this movie stinks?

Though, I think it has a good chance of not stinking. At least, I hope it doesn’t stink.

I’m looking forward to this Superman movie like I haven’t looked forward to much from DC on the big screen in a long time.
