I really loved how these two ended up together.
Elena crushing hard on another girl only to discover she’s with someone already. She’s disappointed, but understands. Only for Syd to put themselves out there to Elena five seconds after that bomb drops.
Then Elena nearly misses all the cues. Which totally relatable. I need someone to shout at me like Elena does in the scene too.
“Gay! Me gay!”
Yeah, that would clear things up like it does right there!
Everything about their get together is sweet and perfect. From the cookie to the other girl to the supportive family trying to help Elena flirt.
Honestly, Elena is a disaster at it and I can relate to that.
But so is Syd.
Then we have her family supporting her by going the extra mile to help her. They find out if the first crush is gay. Offer her advice to flirt. Then cheer when she gets a girl, even if it’s not the one they were shooting for.
It’s silly and wholesome.
Everything about the scene is.
And I always wonder, when I watch it – how long Syd was waiting to shoot their shot.
Because they wasted no time hoping off the couch once they realized Elena didn’t have a shot with the first girl.
I loved that.
Like I’m going to shoot my shot before someone else does.
I love how nerdy they are together. I love the moments when they’re utterly serious. Like when they never leave the house because they’re afraid of the world outside.
It’s real and it happens.
Elena has always felt older than her years. But in that scene, she felt exactly like the child she should. Afraid of the world who is making it hard for her to be herself. Who hates her for it.
It was a powerful moment.
This was a powerful couple.
Elena’s story of trying to figure herself out and then getting a girlfriend after she has an idea. Then her first time.
Overall, this is a sweet couple and I love watching them time and time again!
