Pride – VaLu – 2024

VaLu!

Valentina and Luiza!

I couldn’t decide which video so I put both!

VaLu.

I adore this couple.

I discovered this couple by accident.

Through a gif set on Tumblr. Like all good gay shows are found, you know. They were paired up with a Marina gif set, both of their wonderful shower scenes on full display. A gif set from someone I follow, one they made themselves.

Since I enjoyed their posts and typically enjoyed what they watched and we had in common on Tumblr, I thought I had to check it out.

It was late one-night last summer, I think around June as well. So late in fact, that I decided to watch some of the clips, just to get a sense of the show, and decide whether I might like it or not. It took a minute to find it and discover it wasn’t a Netflix series, but a YouTube series, and there weren’t separate scenes posted. Not really.

So I thought, eh, I’ll just watch the first episode.

I fell down the rabbit hole.

I watched most of the series on my cell phone under my bed covers because I was too captivated to put it on the TV. Not to mention, I kept telling myself that I’d just watched one more, and then go to bed.

I didn’t.

I binged the first eight episodes. Went to bed and picked up where I left off at four in the morning, bleary eyed, and exhausted.

We were only two episodes into the second season, but I had a Christmas special to binge, and plenty of extras to check out.

But the moment that captured my attention so was the first set of scenes.

I saw YouTube video explaining the basic premise of the series and how good it was. So I knew Luiza would lose her memory and Valentina was desperate to get her wife back, but they had a ‘strained’ relationship in college.

They put it delicately in the video seeing as Luiza utterly despised Valentina in college. I did not expect the vehement hatred from Luiza in the past or the present.

And for some reason I had the actresses switched. I thought Luiza was Valentina and Luiza was Valentina. But I got it straightened out quickly enough during the first scene.

Then Valentina spoke and I thought, I understand Luiza’s hatred.

But Luiza walked away, and Valentina revealed to her brother that she did it to rile Luiza up because she’s hot when she’s mad.

A trend that carries on through the series.

Even up to the pregnancy of their second child.

This moment captured an electric and dynamic chemistry to rival that of Maya and Carina from Station 19.

It was amazing.

Up to that moment in the last Pride Month, I declared that no one had chemistry as good as theirs. Not even another favorite couple of mine, Kacy.

And yet…

VaLu came in and went right for that title.

These two actresses gave their everything to all their intimate scenes. Making it feel real in an impressive.

I felt every moment of the series.

The highs of having their second child. Luiza remembering their first kiss. Their second first kiss.

I felt every low.

Luiza spewing horrible things at her wife. Valentina contemplating divorce. The trials with Valentina’s mother.

Nearly losing Leo.

Luiza’s mental breakdown over losing their child, which was also the catalyst for losing her memory.

Valentina desperately wanting her wife back.

Valentina’s own mental issues.

But the series countered every unhappy with moment, with such joy. With such care.

The love between this couple is papable and everything anyone could ever want.

They laugh together.

Valentina hides surprises and knows her wife will snoop. They both get a little jealous. They can’t get enough of each other. Sometimes, one acts like another child. Sometimes, Luiza is all too serious and then silly.

They love each other.

But there’s also no one who drives them crazier in all the best ways.

But also, there’s no one else in the world there for each of them except each other.

Valentina never gave up on her wife. Even in the moments when it was hardest. When Luiza said horrible things to her face, she was kind, and considerate to her wife’s feelings. When she asked for space, she gave it. She took her to therapy, took care of their house, their jobs, and ensured that Luiza was free to explore her life.

Valentina was there for the questions.

She was the punching bag.

But she was also sweet and kind as Luiza warmed up to her and their relationship.

Even in the moments when Luiza wondered if Valentina missed their life before, she was quick to reassure her that Luiza is still the person she fell in love with. That she’s just happy to have her in her life and nothing else matters.

A very sweet swoon worthy moment.

Luiza promised the same as Valentina spiraled after her mother tried to take Leo from them.

She stood toe to toe with her wife’s mother. Giving every bit of venom back to the woman. Sitting up with her in the middle of the night. Being the calm in her wife’s storm every step of the way. Took her to and from therapy of her own. Let her cry, let her pace, and was there for her in anyway she could.

Swapping the roles as Valentina had been protecting her for two seasons, it was now Luiza’s turn to shelter her wife from the world.

Allow her space to deal with her feelings and not worry about things.

Cope in her own time.

And come to terms with her mother and what she had done. Supporting her every step of the way as she reconciled with her mother, never once saying a negative thing to her face.

The very foundation of their relationship is of understanding and love.

They choose each other above everyone else.

Except their son and then daughter.

I love that Luiza was so excited to marry her wife again, because it’s easy to see how both of them could mourn the memories that are lost but they don’t.

Instead, they both choose to do something beautiful and make new memories together.

Valentina shares the old memories as best she can.

But also doesn’t live in endless sadness that her wife doesn’t have them. Instead, they choose to move forward together. They have another child. Move forward in their careers as they always planned. They get married again so they can share new memories together.

Of their life that they have once again chosen for themselves.

Because make no mistake, they both choose each other twice.

Valentina could have gone through with her decision to divorce. But she met her wife half way and agreed to give her a second chance. Just as Luiza agreed.

Marking the start of new relationship for both of them.

Not that they forgot they had a whole relationship before. But they started from the beginning. A second first kiss, a second first time, a second pregnancy together every step, and another wedding.

They chose each other, as they always will.

Just as Jojo pointed out, everyone knew they were destined to end up together except Luiza until she figured it out. Not once, but twice.
