You know, by the time this drops, I’ve probably gone and seen the movie again.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Which – for me – is the biggest compliment I can give to a movie.

I do love to see a good movie in the theaters, and I’ll often buy it when it comes to Blu-ray later so I can rewatch it and have it forever. Rewatch-ability is a huge thing for me. I always want movies to be something I want to go back to time and time again. If it’s a one watch and never again – I didn’t like it.

So for me to want to watch this movie again so badly that I’ll go to the theater again? That movie is top-notch for me.

The last movie I did that for was Superman last summer.

And well, that movie was absolutely amazing. Sorry for stealing a Spidey adjective for Supes. But you know what I mean.

That movie was amazing and this movie was on par for me. It truly felt like the first Spider-Man movie – true Spidey movie – that we’ve had in a long time. I’ve missed it so much. It was so good and definitely Tom Holland’s best Spidey movie thus far.

His portrayal of the lonely Peter Parker being completely absorbed by the spider half of himself was just absolutely amazing. I loved it.

Tom Holland has mentioned in several interviews that this movie felt difficult because he spent a good chunk of it acting alone and he feels like acting is easier with a scene partner. Which I can totally understand. However, I do not think he gave himself enough credit for the performance he had during those moments.

He absolutely knocked it out of the park.

Not to mention, I love how much this movie was influenced not only by the video game from 2018 – my favorite – but also by the other two Spider-Men this Peter met.

His movements and exasperation in his scene trying to convince MJ to trust him when he just busts into her apartment and then again, every time he’s arguing with the Punisher remind me so much of Andrew’s version.

But it’s never too much or over the top.

He’s just emulating someone he looked up to. How many of us have done that?

Even though he’s actively avoiding the lesson that particular Spider-Man was trying to teach him in the movie. Or at least the warning label that Andrew’s Spidey had become.

All of the swinging and fight scenes felt like they were straight out of the video game.

While his transformation felt like the 90s animated series.

It was a perfect love letter to all the things that have come before in Spider-Man’s history while also forging his own path into the future.

A world where Spider-Man is loved and respected by New York.

He’s (hopefully) has friends. Not even just MJ and Ned, but also with the officer he was working with throughout the movie.

Tom’s deliveries of his humor are better than ever. His scene where he’s stretching and is like, ‘oh we’re doing this?’ Perfect. Loved it.

His little looks as he discovers his friends have returned to the city. That Ned is still Ned. MJ is still somewhat MJ. Because I do agree that she was not as weird in the movie as she has been previously, while also being more like the MJ we met in the first movie. More closed off. Reserved.

She has trouble getting close to people. Seems it still stands as she’s struggling with her own boyfriend currently.

Able to be more honest with Spider-Man through a curtain than she is with him. She doesn’t even want to call the guy while she’s in peril. So, yeah, I’m sure he’ll be sticking around.

I’m not even sure the guy had a name.

I legit saw a girl boy friend in the name scroll and I was like, was that MJ’s new love interest? Did the guy not get a name?

Guess he’s sticking around, huh?

Meanwhile, we got some of the most gut-wrenching scenes on the freaking planet as MJ discovers the note Peter wrote when he planned to try and tell her and Ned the truth. Except he changed his mind and now the secret is out. At least to MJ in that moment.

There’s something sick and twisted yet wonderful about making a real-life couple who are clearly just downright smitten with each other beyond all reason just play into this angst. Because Zendaya and Tom knock those moments out of the park. With Zendaya playing into the lost memory while also having an undercurrent of something being familiar about him.

I do think that Jean knocked something loose after that last mind control of the entire city which allowed Ned to remember more easily. I also liked the theory that because it appears that Ned has some form of magic since he could use Strange’s ring, that the spell didn’t take as well with him. Either of those are my favorite theories.

I also think some part of MJ remembered after since she was playing with her necklace on the rooftop.

Regardless, I’m hopeful that MJ and Peter can get back together since this is a trilogy and it would be a terrible waste not to uterlize their chemistry.

Oh, and I don’t care what anyone has to say. I do not ship Peter with Jean. I probably never will. I do not feel their chemistry was good enough to surpass Tom and Zendaya’s. They felt like two people who could be good friends.

There’s a part of me that wants to say more, but I’m not going to.

I want Peter with MJ. The one we’ve had for four movies now. No replacements please and thank you.

She is very clearly the love of his life, and this movie was just downright devastating, but it never says never for these two. It just says not right now because she doesn’t know him well enough to love him. Which is a valid freaking thing to say to a person you’ve known – in your mind – for a day.

However, something is drawing her to him.

She wanted him to be careful. Her drawing was in the hospital room meaning she checked on him one way or another while he was unconscious. She invited him upstairs. She didn’t say what she said to be cruel to Peter – it’s just the truth. And she felt bad for it as well, because she could see how much he loves her. Invites him into her life. To Ned’s. Tells him to tell Ned the truth.

Something inside her recognizes him.

So maybe she’ll never remember. Doesn’t mean she can’t fall for him all over again.

Which is what I’m rooting for.

I love Ned. The only thing I wish about this movie is that there was more Ned. But I love that he created the Spidey tracker just so he could say thank you to him for saving his life. I loved that he nearly crapped himself when Spidey was just standing in his apartment.

Peter’s little comment there was amazing too. Tom was on fire this movie.

I loved the absolute comfort of the three of them just chilling in the living room together. MJ drawing while they built Lego and Ned grilled Peter with a million questions just like before. Even though we took Peter out of those memories doesn’t really mean much of anything has changed.

Ned is Ned.

MJ is MJ.

Peter is Peter.

Sure, they’ve all grown and changed during the four years.

However, some things are just meant to happen. They were all meant to be friends. They have common interests. They’re all brilliant. They’re still going to find the common ground they had before. Just in the present.

I really love that.

Sometimes, some people are just meant to be in your life.

Loved that Peter did decide to talk to Ned at the end of the movie and do their little handshake. I loved that Ned seemed to remember too. I’m really happy for them.

The fights scenes for this movie were awesome. I loved the practical effects and how real the movie felt because of it. The Punisher absolutely cracked me up because he should be the last character hanging out with Spidey, yet it works.

I loved that he evolved through the movie as well. Coming to love Peter while also giving him great advice. That Peter is choosing to live alone when he doesn’t have to. I mean, not that Frank does either. His family was lost but he could still choose to move on and try to be happy.

Instead, he just tries to keep what happened to him from happening to other people. Albeit, quite violently.

For him, that time in his life has passed.

But not for Peter and he tries to help him see that. I love that he clocked that MJ meant something important to him and that he’s crushing hard on her. Well, he’s in love with her – but Frank is missing that history.

Oh, and someone asked if Staten Island was the new Budapest. I love that. Great idea.

I love that everyone wanted Peter to have friends and he uses this to convince Jean not to destroy everyone and everything. Which caused her to flip a switch and just breath and keep Peter alive until he could do it himself. She’s terrifyingly powerful.

It was also nice to see Peter make a mistake and realize that it’s not the end of the world. He could still try to do the right thing. Apologize and hope to move forward.

However, getting Jean kidnapped was exactly what she needed to discover the truth about her sister. The moment I saw the vent with ‘vmax’ I let out the saddest of noises. I was so hoping that her sister was not dead and yet.

I truly hated this villain. So cold and callous. Lying to everyone without a second thought. Just calmly explaining to Jean that she was going to be used and acting like her sister had a say in what he was doing to her. Except she didn’t. She was kidnapped and forced to use her power until she died what appeared to be a painful and violent death while this ass and everyone else just watched.

Then just sought out Jean to do the same thing. To give that power to someone worthy.

Well, screw you. Maybe Jean is worthy. Maybe she isn’t. But it’s hers!

And she and her sister have the right not to be treated like this. Honestly, at the end of the movie I felt she was completely justified in killing that dude. He had it coming.

He thought he was so in control and yet Jean was just too powerful.

I saw it with my dad, and he was flummoxed as to why she hadn’t broken out of her shackles and then she leveled up to that point. Did it. And my dad was like, rightttttt – she’s a baby still. Hasn’t gotten all that power fully understood yet. Right.

I loved that May Parker is still helping people. She’d love it too.

I loved that Peter took the bullet for Jean. I love that Jean kept him alive. Frank rushed him to the hospital.

The entire movie was good, and the villains were amazing because at no point did, I truly feel like Jean was a true villain. She was someone who was hurt and doing what she thought it would take to save the sister who saved her first.
