Stupid Wife – 3×02 Review

That thumbnail hurt.

This opening scene is the perfect example of what I mean by the role swap Luiza and Valentina have done this season.

As Catarina chases them back to the car, Luiza puts herself between them. She’s the only one of the two who addresses Catarina. She allows her wife to maintain space her mother tried to take away. She gives her time to get to the car.

She stops short, allowing Valentina time to get in the car, and start it. Blocking her mother’s path to her and posing the question she was throwing at Luiza back at her.

Also, like what is that question? Luiza is a mother, but Valentina is not?

Like that’s how Catarina is framing that moment.

She asks Luiza to understand from one mother to another. But Valentina is also a mother, so WTF?

I love that Luiza without pausing tosses the question back, and then storms off to the car. She’s completely in agreement with her wife. They’re done with this woman.

Although, it may have been foolish to go to her property. Maybe move the treehouse or something, because I wouldn’t risk going there ever again. Yikes.

What a bitch.

Of course, the entire thing sends Valentina into an understandable tailspin.

Luiza lets it go on for a little while before she steps in. Only for fears to creep back in without Luiza there to fend them off. Finding Valentina unable to sleep and sobbing in the bathroom.

Now, I’m not a mother. But I can’t imagine anything that would make me cause my daughter a sleepless night, restless with unnecessary worry.

I loved the first conversation between them on the couch.

Because Valentina makes valid points.

Her mother is wealthy and a lawyer.

But so was Luiza? Wasn’t it mentioned at this point that she practiced before moving over to dance. Isn’t she well respected in this world too? Also, the size of your house does suggest that you two aren’t hurting for money.

Maybe not long drawn out legal money, but I’m fairly certain this case will get tossed before we get close to that kind of money. You’d have one home inspection and it’d be thrown away.

I didn’t mention this in the episode one review, but Leo and Aninha have noticed that their grandmother is spouting BS. One conversation with Leo would get it tossed too. He’s clearly a well adjusted little boy who loves his moms.

This case won’t get traction.

But I can appreciate that from Valentina’s POV, there’s no rational thought happening right now. She’s just spiraling.

Which is why, Luiza doesn’t look at all surprised to find her wife out of bed in the middle of the night.

Also, while they were filming this scene, Reis actually fell asleep. Which made me laugh so hard, because when I watched it for the first time, I said to myself that she looked like she was really asleep since it didn’t look like her faking sleep from other scenes.

Very method.

While this scene on the couch in the middle of the night is my second favorite scene of the episode.

I love that Valentina let herself be comforted.

I love that she talked to her wife and Luiza listened.

I loved that they joked about what their past selves would think about the current situation. Especially with Luiza defending her wife so fiercely. Which swoon.

The promise from Luiza to be there like Valentina was for her was so sweet.

How do you not swoon when someone declares they won’t let anyone hurt you? Damn!

This scene was so sweet I have a cavity now.

Also, like damn Valentina, you got this woman to fall in love with you. Twice! There’s nothing you can’t accomplish!

But alas, I love this scene, but my favorite of the episode was Luiza getting all jealous as Duda talked about needing a photographer for her hot models.

Please, Luiza, tell me how you think this devoted wife and mother of yours might notice someone else? Please, go ahead.

But jealousy is not rational, is it?

Which is what makes those scenes so good. Because jealousy happens. No matter how much you love each other. It happens.

I love this scene.

Then there’s Valentina at therapy which I love is also not a one and done. Valentina is taking the time to work through her issues.

Also, I love that she has everything she wants, except her mother’s approval. Despite her mother, she went out, and made the life she wanted. She made it happen. That’s amazing to do when a parent is looking down on you.

I love that the therapist reminded her of what she’s done for herself.

I also love that when she was done, she was looking for her wife.

Very cute.

Then we’ve got gossip.

Valentina nearly burns down the kitchen.

Leo covers his eyes as his mothers kiss which is very childlike. I love that he just does what he wants during scenes and everyone else is forced to deal. It makes for such cute moments like that.

Marcos calls out his wife and hands her… something???

Were those divorce papers? Explain! Please!

I loved his rant and impassioned plea. Although, I think it’s too late, sir. She may have already lost her daughter.

Just saying.

Luiza discusses with her own therapist how she wants to be a lawyer, at least to defend her and her wife. I love how she told Valentina that detail too. Over a beer.

Very adorable!

I love how supportive Valentina was.

Then we’re cut to the next morning.

Leo is in trouble for playing video games instead of getting ready for school. I don’t understand how anyone could think the strict but caring mother is not a good mother.

Then Luiza comes in and the episode ends with her hearing from the bailiff.

Well, shit.

What happened???
