Vigil 2×02 – Review

Why don’t they have guns?

I’m serious. I understand that gun safety and as a US citizen, exactly how harmful having guns around can be.

But we need ‘Armed Police’ in the UK? Is that for safety? Why is it like that? Does it help?

I’m serious, if anyone can tell me if it’s safer for everyone involved, I’m all ears.

I admit to being super confused during scenes like this when Amy and Kirsten are unharmed. This was clearly a dangerous situation. Should we have let them wander around without at least one of the Armed Police?

I think that might have been a wiser choice.

Instead of them fighting for their lives with sticks.

Just a thought.

But I am no expert. And if someone is telling me this is a better way to deal with guns and police issues using those guns when they’re not warranted. Sign me up.

Back to the episode.

The guys daughter is tracked down and spinning a whole bunch of tales. Like the whole not having her phone.

Really? Really?

I don’t even need to have teenager to know we’re all way too attached to those things. I don’t believe her at all. So clearly there’s more to her story. Which confuses me, because I don’t believe her father was a bad guy.

It seems more like he was caught in the crossfire.

I’m missing something.

Which also goes with why she would want to go back to a war riddled country where they put in jail for looking at people funny. At least in the UK there’s a level of protection and freedom to be had.

What are you looking for?

Your family? I think your family would want you to get the hell out of there if you could.

Just saying. Doesn’t it seem weird that she would want to go back there?

Even if she doesn’t know the UK well. Her father got her citizenship there for a reason. He wanted it to be her home too.

Stay there, enjoy some freedom. You’re only going to find death or destruction in the Wudyan.

But of course, her intentions are somewhat revealed when she opts to stab a guy.

He seems to be a bit of an asshole if his first few scenes and interview with Amy are any indication. But I don’t know. Something isn’t right with him or wrong with him either.

I can’t put my finger on it.

Something is up with Eliza, the lady in charge of the UK portion of the base. She’s all too twitchy and seemingly odd.

Another thing I can’t put my finger on.

But I assume this will be a little like the first season where Amy will uncover secrets that people are hiding that have nothing to do with what happened. After all, everyone has something to hide and Amy has no idea what’s relevant and what isn’t.

I think that’s one of the best parts of season one.

Sometimes, Amy accidentally found information that had nothing to do with the main plot. Anything suspicious is noted and she looks into it.

So she’s going to check the pilots.

She’ll double check everyone’s story.

I love that. Because like Amy, as audience we don’t really know what happened. We’re following the trail of evidence wherever it goes.

We thought it was this guy, but it’s not.

Could be the pilots, but it might not be. The leaders? The guy running the base? A government? A terrorist cell? Who knows?

Got to check everything out.

Then we have Kirsten with her new little friend from MI5 or 6? I can’t remember anymore.

He’s also far too helpful to actually be helpful.

Honestly, though, that’s the best play I’ve ever seen. Both by Dougray Scott’s character and the MI5 guy’s part. Truly.

Because who would suspect the overly eager and helpful people? You’d trust them, because they seem so willing to help.

I love that Amy doesn’t quite trust them.

She’s definitely a good cop from years of experience and mistakes. Not because of a calling or some secret talent. She put in the work to get where she is and it shows in every moment.

Excellent episode.

Oh, one more thing, I nearly had a heart attack with Kristen in the apartment with the clearly PSTD triggered guy. That was a slick hiding space too on his part. But between the balcony climb and his threats I almost shit myself.
