Okay, so last week, I said I hope things just get better.
Uh, they didn’t.
I don’t like this episode at all.
Sure, the bit of info about Colter’s past is a nice touch. But to be honest, the over arc story is the least interesting thing about this show. First season storylines in these kinds of series never quite pan out the way anyone wants.
It’s a mention it, and come back later when the show has traction, and knows what it is.
So his mom hiding something isn’t new or interesting or subtle. Nor is his brother who killed his father of note to me. I like how Colter approaches problems and people. Not the arc.
But the show falls flat with the cult.
This episode was too much too fast.
You cannot just take down a cult in one episode or two days. These things aren’t set up like that. Nor would they be foolish enough to leave evidence around in a place connected to their leader just so easy to find.
Cults are smart.
They slip between the cracks of society and the law. It’s why people are so afraid of them. They’re hard to stop or dismantle.
Making everything about this episode cheap and terrible.
It was too quick.
It was too easy to snap the guy out of his brainwashing.
It was too easy to get into. They never would have let him get that close no matter what he agreed to. Never mind letting him talk to him without someone there.
In fact, it’s odd that the victim didn’t want one of the leaders with him when he spoke to Colter. They usually need these people in order to cope with life and everything around them.
It’s part of the hook.
They need them. They can’t live or do anything without them.
That wasn’t there.
It was weird. It was rushed. It was poorly written. The characters were just off and not at all what you would expect from a cult.
Gah, it was just terrible.
This episode was downright awful.
Unlike episode one, which opens up a world of possibilities. This is just laughably or groan-worthy bad.
It doesn’t work.
None of it works. Not even the takedown. No one would give up information that easily or follow him that badly. There was nothing good to say about this plot! Nothing.
I’m so sorry. It was just bad.
I do have questions though. Does Colter pay the two women helping him? Velma and Teddi? I feel like they should get a cut along with his computer expert. Is that how they make their living? Or do they have day jobs? How does Colter know these people? Where did they meet?
I’d rather have that background that whatever mental break his father had, that led to his son chucking him off a cliff. With that somehow coming back to haunt his family in the present.
Not the finest outing. So much so, I’m done talking about it. Let’s hope for a better episode three! See you next week!
