Stupid Wife – 2×04 Review

Umm…

I’m going to need a minute.

And a cold shower.

I’m not even sure what else happened in this episode. My brain short-circuited when Valentina whispered in her ear.

I don’t even know what she said. I don’t even think I need to. It goes beyond translation. I got it.

She seduced her wife and everyone else watching this.

Damn. Damn. Damn.

What do I say? I think it speaks for itself. Excuse me.

Nope. Watching it again didn’t help.

Is anyone even out there? Is anyone reading this? Or did all the lesbians, bisexuals, and basically anyone attracted to women sexually survive?

Probably not. I’m just screaming into an abyss.

Good to know.

So that happened.

And it was f*cking amazing! Kudos to the actresses for that entire scene, for committing, and just going for it. To the directors for shooting it so wonderfully. And the writers for thinking it up in the first place. Thank you. All of you. So good.

Everything about this scene was written for women, by women, and perfect for the female eye.

Whew.

So wonderfully done.

Okay, right, what else happened?

Valentina found the letter Luiza wrote years ago, right! Thank you!

I honestly can say, I wasn’t expecting the episode to open up the way it did. Usually, cliff hangers for Stupid Wife are explained as we move on. I have to say, this was a nice change of pace.

This entire scene was sweet and heartbreaking at the same time.

I love that Luiza wasn’t mad Valentina found the letter.

Because, let’s be honest, it was a terrible hiding spot if she was.

Anyway, I love that she sat down and had an important conversation with her wife. I even loved that Luiza acknowledged that their choices on how they handled it then may not have been the best, but they did the best they could at the time.

Hindsight is always 20/20.

Sure, things look differently now. They’ve grown and gone through other issues together. When that happens, you’ll always look back, and cringe a little at yourself. It’s how it works. It’s how you know you’ve grown.

Luiza reminding Valentina of their deal was sweet as well.

I love that they have made an active choice to move forward together.

They’re not ignoring the past or what’s come before. They accept that it’s happened and it can still hurt, but they can’t live in the past or that hurt if they want their future. If they want to keep moving forward, and be together.

All in all, a very sweet scene.

One I greatly enjoyed.

And then… Well, then there’s Valentina’s mother.

Why do we keep putting up with this woman? Seriously?

I have several family members I no longer speak to because things happened that were unacceptable.

I think her actions in the Christmas Special certainly warranted a toss from Valentina’s life. Wouldn’t you say?

And it’s not like they don’t notice how terrible she is!

Duda literally interrupted her speech as she saw how much it hurt Valentina!

Valentina left. Her husband shot her a look. Luiza is clearly not fond of her. I think Igor is the only one living in a fantasy land when it comes to their mother.

Even her attempt to be kind fell terribly flat.

What was that?

Her dig at Luiza? I love how Luiza handled it too. She simply ignored and changed the subject, not even offering the woman the time of day. Her glare, coupled with the care she took for her wife only illustrates how little she cares for Catarina. I was hoping Luiza would punch her or yell, but I liked the quiet rage and comfort she offered her wife.

I think I’ve said this before, Luiza clearly with or without her memory understands that Catarina is not kind nor good for her wife. But Valentina wants a relationship with her mother to work, for not only her sake, but her son, brother, and father since they’re all so deeply entangled together.

So Luiza holds her tongue.

She glares.

She chases her wife and sits with her outside. It doesn’t matter to her if Valentina makes a scene or what happens. She’ll be there, every time to comfort her.

She doesn’t like it, but she does it. For her wife and that’s all that matters.

Catarina’s BS apologies were terrible. She didn’t like feeling her kids move? Did she even want kids? Because she’s awful to them.

Everything is a backhanded remark from her.

I have people like that in my family. It’s very horrifying to see it on my screen and feel just as helpless. To want Valentina to stand up for herself, but also know how long it took me. How hard it was.

Valentina’s dad is very sweet.

I loved the album and trip down the blank page memory lane.

The flashbacks were adorable, but I particularly liked the ice cream one.

I simply adore Valentina in that flashback soooo much. Her devotion to her wife and child shined through brilliantly, illustrating the stark difference between her and her mother. She lived to be there for her wife. Early morning runs for ice cream, foot rubs, defending her from her brother’s teasing, and her excitement at the baby to come.

They’re both cute moments, but the ice cream one just hit different for me.

Maybe because I know that’s exactly how I’d act in that situation. I see what I want in my future and how overjoyed Valentina is to have it and decidedly not taking it for granted. I love it.

Then there’s the SCENE.

Morning comes and with it, these two try to start something up again, but… They’re interrupted by the cutest interruption possible demanding pancakes.

Valentina flinging herself across the bed made me laugh so hard, I watched it several times.

The moment, she hears a little voice, and she yeets herself to the other side of the bed. Perfect.

Leo being so excited over pancakes reminds me of Saturday mornings when I was little and bursting in on my parents and cheering until my mouth was full of pancake.

The sisters being sisters.

Valentina being charming.

Then we’re treated to Luiza and Valentina doing some stuff in the backyard. I say stuff, because I think they were too busy imagining what happens when everyone leaves and Leo is in bed. They could not keep their eyes off each other.

Le sigh. Who doesn’t want that?

Luiza claims falling in love is the best thing to happen to her and I agree! It’s the best thing we could have asked for as an audience.

And finally, the show leaves us with a terrible cliff hanger… Luiza has remembered something!

But what?

Who knows? Hopefully the next episode knows!

Off to watch that, and maybe this one a few more times!
