Maya & Carina – 6×13 “I Need You to Win Me Back. Slowly.”

Is anyone still out there to read this?

I mean, this entire fandom probably died somewhere in the episode last night.

OMG.

There’s so much to talk about, I’m not even sure where to start!

And this is my blog, so I’m going to start where I want – at the end!

Finally!

Since Maya’s turnaround from her unfortunate – but understandable – breakdown, we’ve seen her going above and beyond to show Carina she’s series. She means it when she says she’ll be better. Things will be different.

We’ve seen her bring food.

Try to talk to Carina.

She’s shown up when she was sick.

Again when people rioted against healthcare.

She’s left work to prove to Carina, she’s the most important thing.

Maya has tried coming at the relationship thing from all angles, not really sure what will work, if anything. She’s respected boundaries, while still trying to show Carina she wants to make this work.

What Maya wants, has been clear.

She even said it. At the hotel, she intends to stay married. She wants to work things out.

Except Maya doesn’t know what she needs to do.

She doesn’t actually know what Carina wants. She’s been guessing this whole time. Using the fragments Carina’s dropped to slowly find cracks in the walls her wife put up to protect herself.

Finally, in this episode, Carina and Maya talk.

Carina reveals calmly and clearly, she’s wants to be with Maya.

A lot.

A lot.

A lot.

She wants to work it out too.

This is the first time we hear her say what she wants from Maya. And it appears that the advice from Diane sunk in.

She’s wants Maya to win her over like she has been. Bringing her food, respecting boundaries, building a solid foundation that they can put their lives on.

She wants to know this is real. That this time won’t be like before.

Won’t be like the chaos they have lived in.

This little conversation was exactly what they needed.

I loved that they were both honest with each other. And finally understood that no matter how close they’ve ever been, they cannot read each other’s minds. They have to tell each other the little things they think about.

Maya being open and honest about being disappointed was so sweet.

She clearly had been trying to hide it, that morning. Not well.

But I love that at the end of the day she realized it was more important to be honest with Carina, because she gets to feel too.

Maya may have been the one to do the hurting and Carina has every right to stay away and protect herself. She can set boundaries and limits to how her relationship to Maya will be. It’s healthy.

But the reverse is healthy too.

Maya needs to be able to express herself to Carina.

She can’t hide or suppress her emotions because she’s afraid of what might happen with Carina or how her wife will take it.

If they want to make a relationship work, both parties need to be honest with themselves and each other about how they feel.

Which is why I loved this conversation between them.

They both had the space and sound mind to finally discuss things.

They both expressed their desire to be together. They set a clear line of how they were going to move forward together.

And that is so important!

One person in the relationship cannot make all the decisions or choices or lines. At some point, to move forward they needed to come together. And I approve of the slow collusion here.

A big event didn’t draw them back into each other’s arms right away.

Small events, grouped together, to illustrate what they still mean to each other.

Leading to a conversation about how to put their marriage back together. But – this time – so it doesn’t collapse again.

“The house don’t fall when the bones are good.” – Maren Morris.

Not to mention, we finally saw a glimpse of Carina and Maya’s fantastic chemistry. The moment when Carina says that when she’s close to Maya, she just wants to let gravity take over, and pull her close. There was such an adorable look on her face.

It’s one of the few moments we’ve seen Carina be open and vulnerable in front of Maya.

She let her walls come down for that split second and allow Maya to see she still means so much to her and still has an effect on her.

On the flipside, I loved Maya looking like a lovesick puppy as Carina revealed she still wanted them and her wife and how much she still cares. She was so cute following after her grinning like a dope.

It’s everything I wanted to see but didn’t think we would get. It’s amazing.

There was nothing like the moment, Maya asked Carina on a date.

It was perfect.

I loved that Maya asked what it looks like and then just decided to start from the beginning. She took a shot that this might be what her wife wanted, and the smile proved it.

The two idiots grinning at each other was perfect. Honestly, this show should do nothing else. Just let these two have all the scenes. People will watch it by the truck load.

It felt reminiscent of their first scene in 3×05, but you could feel the history between the two characters as well. They have had so many moments, so many scenes, been through so many things, and yet at the end of the day, they look just as happy to see each other as that first moment.

Now, we can go back to the beginning of the episode.

The entire morning scene was straight out of fanfic. Did they hire some fanfic authors and not tell us?

It’s the only reason for those scenes to be as good as they are.

The cute literal awkwardness was amazing.

They so wanted to just drop everything and be together, but they knew that wasn’t an option. But they also didn’t know what to with themselves.

It’s like, we’re married, but we’re not together right now. How do we make this awkward moment less awkward? How do we carry on with our day like this doesn’t change things? Does it change things?

Kudos to Stefania and Danielle for making that moment work even without words. You could absolutely see each character overcomplicating things way more than they needed to.

Then we have the knock-off clinic.

What were those clinic moments?

I felt gross watching that.

From the fake doctor to Bailey and Warren arguing, it was all just yuck.

Just yuck.

I have no other words for that clinic.

Bailey and Carina were trying to do the right thing, I applaud them for trying to get that sick place closed. Very nice idea.

I would have preferred it without Warren’s overprotective and unnecessary crazy. I wanted to slap him.

These are two grown women who know the cost of what they’re doing. They literally just witnessed the worst humanity has to offer the day before. They get how dangerous it was.

And I know he wasn’t trying to stop them, but he was in the way so much.

I especially wanted to smack him when Carina was having a moment over the test and Bailey noticed but Warren was lost in his own ramblings. I kept shouting, dude shut it. Carina is upset.

I loved that Bailey took notice and was there for her.

I love that this couple has been helping with Maya and Carina.

Last night, Carina saw she wanted to return to her family and her life with Maya. Make things work. She wants the baby and the wife and the house. She just needs to make it clear so that they can get there.

Aw.

I also loved that they fed her.

I was worried about her not having friends or any support. But it was cute how close she and Bailey have become.

Like when Warren wanted to know and Carina was like nope. And tried to dive behind Bailey.

I laughed my ass off as Carina was forced to deal with this crazy feuding couple.

This episode was a turning point.

I loved it.

I know people were expecting a pregnancy, but I liked this way better.
