Harley Quinn: The Animated Series – Seasons 1 – 3

What did I just watch?

Oh my god, I just binged the first three seasons of Harley Quinn, a TV show I have wanted to see for the longest time.

Basically, ever since I learned that Harley and Ivy become a couple like they are in the comics, so I’m told.

Either way, I heard about this show through Tumblr

Basically, where I find out about all the good gay shit. And I wanted to watch it for so long, but just didn’t have the energy or the mental or emotional space to actually sit and watch the whole thing.

Let me tell you, it was fu*king worth it!

The jokes!

The references!

All the chaos!

This show is amazing.

I loved that it was unapologetically crazy!

There is not other way to put it. From all the violence, to the weird plotlines, and the characters being just slightly off kilter in an unexpected way, is amazing.

Honestly, this Jim Gordan might be the most realistic version of him I’ve ever seen.

I mean, think about it – if you lived in a city constantly overrun by people like Joker and has the literal headquarters for the Legion of Doom, you’d lose a few marbles too. His deep dive into a bottle, his failing marriage, and clinging to the idea that he’s a good cop are the only things that get him through the day.

I believe that.

Gotham sucks.

I’ve always wondered why people stay there.

Like, if you had enough money or could get a job somewhere else – wouldn’t you go?

I think I would do anything to get out of a crazy city like that. Especially, if my police commissioner was losing his mind.

Or if you know, the rest of the US didn’t want anything to do with you.

It’s time to go, get out. Leave it to the crazies and move to Happy Harbor or something.

As for the title character, which everything is truly about – I love her.

I didn’t think I would either. I have never been a Harley Quinn fan. Mostly, because she stood behind the joker and was everything I hated about portraying women on TV or in movies. She just props him up and makes him look good or takes the fall or does the work while he walks away, scot free.

On this show – however – this show turns everything on it’s head.

Harley standing up for herself and turning against the Joker was amazing!

I loved that Poison Ivy was in her corner the whole time.

For me, their relationship is the thing I love most. I expected to find myself bored when they weren’t a couple, just waiting and waiting for them to finally get together.

But I wasn’t!

The lead-up was so good I started watching season one over again after I completed the series thus far.

Argh. The slow burn, friends to lovers, true love’s kiss, and almost marrying someone else but you know they’re meant to be was just so damn good!

I love best friends turned lovers.

I’m a sucker every time.

Because I’m a firm believer that great and long-lasting relationships are built on sustainable friendships. Life and romantic relationships aren’t always romantic!

Sometimes, they have shitty things to deal with.

Sometimes, it’s staying in on Valentine’s Day and saying let’s watch TV, have sex, and go to bed.

Ugh, being so comfortable with someone that you can just list those things like it’s nothing is amazing.

But also knowing someone down to their very core is important. And sometimes, the person who knows everything about you, has seen the mess, and doesn’t mind. They’ve been through the wringer with you and the go to bat for you. (No pun intended) They’d do anything for you is sometimes your best friend and your soulmate.

I think two people in love for the long haul, have to be able to be best friends too.

Just sit and watch TV.

Just as Joker points out that sitting on the couch and never running out of things to say is important. Never being bored, because you’re with the person who makes everything fun is so damn important.

I loved that.

I also loved that Harley and Ivy know each other.

Ivy knows what every look Harley has means.

Harley knows Ivy would never like the ring Kiteman first picked out.

Ivy knows the type of toilet paper Harley loves.

Harley knows exactly what sort of gifts say she loves her.

This show was amazing. And I’m so happy to hear there will be a season four! I cannot wait to see how Harley and Ivy are going to deal with their new arrangement.

How exactly does an on the rise superhero and supervillain make the whole couple thing work?

I can’t wait to find out. It should be downright crazy.

As for the other characters on the show, I loved that everyone’s personalities were on the money, and not right at the same time. Everyone is just amplified to be extra in this series and it works so well, in a way I didn’t think it would.

Okay, I’m off to binge this series a second time!
