Holy sh*t!
This may possibly be one of the greatest video games I’ve ever played.
Not that I’ve played a ton.
As I said before I do not really consider myself a ‘gamer.’
I’ve recently gotten into playing more video games in my adult years because I’m not only better at them, but a chronic disease often leaves me unable to move around much. So, video games have become a way for me to still keep my brain moving.
That being said, back to the game!
There are so many wonderful things to talk about – and no – I don’t care that I’m four or five years late to the party for this game. It is amazing to play.
The little things like his shoes squeaking when he runs up the side of the building to being the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man by offering to catch a guy’s lost pigeons are perfect!
They manage to capture Peter Parker as an experienced Spider-Man but an inexperienced Peter because he still has no clue how to get his life in order.
All the little touches, like the job, and the investigating little details that tell you things about Peter and MJ and May as you go along are wonderful.
Now, I haven’t completed the entire thing yet, so I’m sure I’ll have more to geek out about as a longtime Spider-Man fan.
One thing I do want to point out is Mary Jane. My goodness, do I love the career change here. One thing I have had a problem with many times over is what the hell do they have in common?
In the comics, she’s a bit of a flighty actress with hints of seriousness when the situations warrants it. She’s introduced in the comics as a direct foil to Gwen as an outgoing, shallow, party girl. Over time, yes, she does change and garner more substance.
Especially in the wake of Gwen’s death.
But I always wondered – what do they talk about?
What are their little interests together?
One of the things that I love about Clark Kent and Lois Lane, is that they have the same fundamental belief system. Morally, they are very similar. It gives a basis for a friendship. Then they have the same job, stopping bad guys, and from their romance makes sense to me.
For me, MJ and Peter always seemed superficial. An attraction they forced into more, while there is very little in common with each other.
Full disclosure, I have not read and studied the comics for Spider-Man as much as I have for Superman.
However, I have read several. Just not super in depth with this hero, so I could be wrong. There could be a whole side their relationship I’ve never seen.
My brain just sticks on one is a scientist and the other an actress. Those two things don’t really seem to go together.
Which is why I always liked Gwen. I thought they were good together since they were both smart and scientists. It built a common thread for them.
Back to the video game, I truly enjoyed the change for MJ to choose to be a reporter. This was also in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon I watched and I loved it there too.
Because it works!
It gives them the same morals, the same goals, and a reason for MJ to always be in the midst of the danger. And while others may not have enjoyed being MJ for parts of the video game, I did! Speaking as a woman, we totally want to or I totally want to see woman kicking ass just like the hero. Because she is a hero! Just with a pen instead of web and it’s important.
I applaud the game for those moments.
It shows she’s perfect for Peter because she can stand on her own.
Sure, she needs help sometimes, but so does he and it’s important that they’re equals.
Now, one of my other favorite things about this game are the features. I love that Spidey does other things in the city and it’s not all about beating people up. Helping Harry. Chasing down pigeons. Collecting his backpacks from around the city. It’s fun to do more than beat up guys.
Also, I love the sneaky features. I love trying to take out as many bad guys as I can before they notice I’m there. Totally a favorite thing.
Right now, I’m 30% or level 14 in the game. I’ve already purchased the sequel with Miles Morales. And I am unfortunately considering a PS5 despite the price tag just to get the third one in the fall. Damn you Insomniac Games for making such a wonderful game!
So much fun.
In fact, I’m off to play now!
Thanks for reading! Let me know what your favorite game is! Please! I’m dying for some other awesome game recommendations! These games were actually recommended to me by an employee at GameStop!
And if you’re able, drop a donation to help me out!
Spread the love and game on! 😉
