Why are we obsessed with crossovers?
I remember watching shows when I was little, and crossovers were far and few between and mostly, they were small. Just a little nod to another show so you knew it was there and you should check it out.
Now, they’re these huge events that never live up to the hype.
Sorry, NCISverse. This is not my favorite crossover.
That belongs to Crisis on Earth-X.
I’ll admit the story wasn’t bad. It was just meh.
Honestly, the FLETC instructor we’ve probably never heard of before and will never hear of again commits suicide and suddenly we’re off on this chase across the country in the most ridiculous fashion where we don’t even take all the people.
Or even worse people are flying all over the place, miscommunicating with each other while a random assortment of characters are kidnapped by the CIA.
By the time we were in LA, I forgot where we started.
And I have a serious question for anyone who watches NCIS Los Angeles – how do you put up with Callen and Hanna? Mostly Callen?
His scene where he refuses to identify himself to Kate whose vest clearly tells him who she is and then she identifies herself again while he jokes around. Honestly, if he’d gotten himself shot because he couldn’t properly identify himself like he’s supposed to, no one would have faulted Kate!
Also, the two of them showing up and taking over without so much as a curtesy call to the agents who are in charge Washington is just rude.
They claim they don’t want to step on toes but that’s literally all they did.
Instead, of cooperating like big boys they want to have a dick measuring contest with everyone.
Unlike Jesse when Parker declares he’s in charge because Tennant’s missing. He asked if that’s a thing and when he’s told yes by a superior, he shuts his trap, and they get to work because he a good cop and understands chain of command.
Seriously, Callen and Hanna have no chemistry and are arrogant jerks based on what I saw. (I have never watched NCIS Los Angeles.)
Kensi and Deeks are adorable.
Also, someone please tell me if the Roundtree and Fatima are dating or about to be. I got vibes.
Lucy’s return after her absence was underwhelming and she didn’t even interact with anyone from her show including Tennant. We didn’t even get a nice to see you, how’s the boat, or anything. But we had time for cigar talk and vacation talk. Why?
I will also never understand how it’s a crossover if all the characters don’t get to run around and interact. Each episode felt like some special guests while we were on a different show.
Which is why Crisis on Earth-X is my favorite. They ditched their own stories and forgot whose show was whose to tell a conclusive story in four hours. Which I’d hoped they’d do here.
Instead, McGee is only in his show and is arrested and questioned by idiots.
I really don’t like Callen and Hanna. They showed no respect for those around them who have more experience and outrank them.
Lucy appeared and did nothing, making her return so lackluster. We called her in to say ‘hi’ to one bad guy and pep talk someone. Yep, very important to pull her from her agent afloat duties.
Insert eyeroll here.
Jessica Knight, a super badass doesn’t leave her own show either, when her boyfriend is kidnapped! I don’t even think she’s mentioned after. There’s no sign Palmer called her and was like ‘hi, dear. No longer in danger, just chilling in Hawai’i’.
Overall, the crossover wasn’t bad. It just wasn’t amazing. It didn’t blow my mind.
It’s just not my cup of tea. I think they should meshed the characters better. Not to mention utilizing their humorous characters a bit better. There was far too much seriousness happening, not when they have so many jokesters running around.
I did like the reason for everyone joining together to honor a fallen favorite teacher. The lack of build-up in the past can be overlooked because they may not have had to mention him before. But seriously, how many of his tips and tricks were used and he’s never come up before???
Hard to believe. That, makes it harder to believe.
But I’ll overlook it, because they’ve never tried something this big before.
Solid effort.
Needs work if they ever try again.
But like them at the end and the title of the first episode. There were too many people to tell a truly good story.
Let them stand alone.
Clearly, they have done well that way. 😉
As always, thanks for reading!
