Why Don’t TV Shows Have ACTUAL Openings Anymore?

Is it just me or have TV shows in the last decade completely given up on having a good opening?

Whatever happened to memorable openings filled with scenes from the show set to some music that sets the tone for the series?

Does anyone else miss it?

I miss it.

Think about it.

Friends, Smallville, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Bones, Cheers, CSI, Lois and Clark the New Adventures of Superman, Golden Girls, and Charmed!

Charmed is one of my favorites! Doesn’t How Soon is Now? set the tone for the show perfectly?

I am the son, I am the heir,

I am human and I need to be loved,

Just like everybody else does

See I’ve already waited too long,

And all my hope is gone.

I bet that if you’ve ever watched this show you could hear the song playing in your head and you started singing along.

These openers gave you a glimpse into the world of the show without ever watching it.

Golden Girls – Thank You for Being a Friend

Gilmore Girls – Follow you

Smallville – Somebody Save Me

They’re iconic as much as the show is.

So why did we get rid of them?

Instead, we get these short little blasts or something that mean nothing and if you took them away, I probably wouldn’t notice. What happened to this little flare?

Are we so hard pressed for time in these shows now that we can’t be bothered to make a proper opening them for them anymore?

We’re more focused on shock value and dropping whole seasons to cancel it five minutes later.

I think there’s a reason that whenever I hear the Golden Girls theme song I smile because it makes me think of my Nana who I used to watch it with on snow days in the afternoon and she’s no longer with me but the memories wrap me up like a warm blanket.

Are we too busy to keep those moments now?

Huh?

Every TV show has been cut down on time for more commercials and to make room for the show we cut the little bit that helps make the show?

I don’t think we’re improving things by taking them away.

Every time I watch an older show with the openings, even if it’s for the first time, I’m reminded how much I love the little openings.

And now we’re even given the chance on streaming services to forgo them entirely!

Why don’t people want to watch the openings anymore?

What got lost?

Tell me do you like the TV openings, or do you like not having the openings? I’m curious.
