Vox Machina makes a somewhat coherent plan to take down Thordak.

Keyleth and Vax work their shit out.

Percy is still dead.

We decide to trust the dragon again, much to my irritation. Only to discover she’s probably double-crossed them.

Keyleth suddenly decides to work with the dragon. Apparently, good sex has muddled her brain or something to that effect.

Scanlan feels guilty for not being there.

And well, the entire episode is really depressing. As it should be considering the entire turn of events that has happened here. Percy is dead. Thordak appears to be winning. Oh, and Grog is coming up with the ideas to save the day.

What in the world was that?

Vex is a wreck, but using that wreck to finally crack through to her father. The asshole that he is. Somewhere deep into his heart where the small amount of love he has resides.

For the woman who was Vex and Vax’s mother. For his daughter. For his life right now. And manages to convince him to bring an entire army to Emon to help take down Thordak once and for all.

Which works.

He does believe she’s there to rub the bow in his face but instead she just cracks him open like a nut and manages to find the still beating reminents of his heart. Extract what love he has left there and get him to help. I mean damn. Laura must have rolled so well that game.

Maybe he’s not such an asshole.

Just a prejudiced moron. I don’t know.

I’m not convinced enough to like him.

And I’m not sure how it’s going to go with his entire army more than likely getting slaughtered in like two seconds because they were betrayed by a dragon they already knew was evil. I’m sure that will help the father daughter bonding happening here.

Oh, and Keyleth, you’ve been right this entire time. Do not lose that conviction.

Whoops.

She lost something there.

I’m telling you, a bit of a muddled brain over there. She’s still in bed just thrilled to be alive. And you know what? Good for her. After all the BS Vax has pulled and the pushing and pulling, he has been doing, it’s nice to see her have a happy moment with him.

It’s also nice to see Vax admit that he’s an idiot.

Then the Raven Queen interrupts their nice slumber.

Listen lady, do not interfere with my ships. Okay? Go away. Or at least wait until morning to deliver your dire news. I mean – come on! Read the room!

In other news, Scanlan is having a crisis over not being there for his friends. Not being there for Kaylie. And feeling like he’s failing everything all the time. Which is such a Sam character if I ever saw one. He’s so good at making characters that seemingly have little care in the world or are simply interested in one thing. But there’s so many more layers to them than we realize.

Such as Scanlan.

Who desperately wants to be loved and love someone but is just horrible at expressing it in a healthy way.

He uses sex and fun and drinking and music to keep people at an arms’ length afraid that if they get to know the real him, they might not love him anymore. Yet he desperately wants to be known and be loved for himself.

I love that. And Scanlan did get on my nerves at the start, much like Nott the Brave in the Mighty Nein. However, both of them won me over as you start to dig a little deeper and understand their motives.

I really hope that Scanlan can pull his shit together and be there for Kaylie. While also finding the love he wants. With Pike apparently. Since she appears to be the one he confides some of his most terrifying thoughts and worries to. As well as the person he seeks the most council with. Whose opinion matters more than the rest of the group to him.

One he’s blushed around. Stares at when she’s not looking. Gets extra stupid tongue tied over. And tried to kiss like what ten seconds ago?

It also appears that the interest is mutual. I’m really wondering and interested to see that play out.

We’ve already got two romances going on.

Vax and Keyleth have worked their shit out.

Vex and Percy were sleeping together. Then he announced he was in love with her and promptly died. Leaving her devastated because she couldn’t say it back. While also believing that her love kills the people she cares about most. Her mother. Vax to a certain extent. Now Percy.

Damn. I can’t blame her for feeling horrible.

I also do not want this for her. Mostly because Laura Bailey will probably make me cry. She is just too good at her job and was doing her best to tug on all the heart strings as she mourned the loss of Percy.

Then finally, we have Grog who randomly came up with the best answer to everything. They have literally been to so many places. Acquired so many friends or allies or at least people with aligned interests. There are plenty of people they can call on to help them deal with Thordak.

So why not call them?

Which is interesting to me. Vox Machina – despite it all – has managed to make several friends and allies over the course of the series and probably the campaign. The amount of people they can call in places of power and get help from is pretty staggering.

On the other hand, I watched The Mighty Nein campaign and when it came to their final fight – they had themselves and one extra dude.

They could have called on some other people. But that would have made their extra dude, Essek uncomfortable, and he wouldn’t have helped. So they traded any of their other potential allies for the fight – which was like two people and they were not friends – for just Essek.

It’s just so amusing to me that the mess of Vox Machina had more people to call on. The seemingly unlikeable assholes who are actually incredibly likeable that no one wanted around at the start of the series have come so far. They’ve a multitude of people to call on for help, not just each other.

Meanwhile, The Mighty Nein just had each other.

It’s kind of wild how the same actors made such a different set of characters.

Oh and to be fair, I do believe that Vox Machina definitely needed those allies. While I don’t believe that The Mighty Nien did. I am firmly of the mind that The Mighty Nein is probably the most overpowered of the three campaign parties. And I tend to go back to one simply reason – they amount of healing they possess.

Jester, Caduceus, Yasha, and Fjord all have some form or another of healing. While the rest typically carry health potions regardless. Knocking them down before they knock you out is going to be so freaking hard. Then couple that with that fact that they have so much magical damage and two tanks who can just take so many hits.

Anyway! I’m getting off topic!

Back to the episode.

Vox Machina calls on their allies and most of them answer the call. While some want no part in it. Which I cannot blame them for. This does feel like a form of suicide. Especially those distracting Thordak so we can destroy the eggs.

However, it is also a really sound plan. Which just feels odd. So – of course – it went off the rails because the back entrance is sealed. Freaking traitorous dragon.

Should have listened to Keyleth.

Well, I can’t wait to see how this all goes horribly wrong! Onto next week’s!
