Lois Lane just loves being right.

Even to the detriment of literally everyone else. Whoops.

Lois Lane is truly one of a kind, but I love her to bits. And so does Clark. I mean, who else could put up with her like this?

Cat Grant literally sets Lois on this course by insisting that she be herself and sniff out a good story. Well, she does. After scaring literally everybody, insulting a man, and destroying a teddy bear.

One that belonged to a little girl. That Clark replaces.

Clark’s absolute reluctant tiredness of dealing with this, just goes so well with his tired little muttering, ‘being Superman is harder than it used to be.’

I loved everything about him in this episode. Because the dynamic between him and the rampaging Lois is exactly what it always should be. She’s plowing ahead, not thinking about a single consequence – dead set on being right about whatever she’s pursing. Because she is – always – in fact, right. While Clark is just sort of trailing behind picking up pieces and apologizing to people.

She’s a little gung-ho.

Don’t mind, Lois.

It’s just Lois.

Here let me pay for that.

Let me fix that.

Lois, you ran over a little old lady in your progress to take down the bad guy!

OOPS. Sorry. Carries on as though that didn’t happen at all.

It’s a tale as old as Superman. Lois chasing the story. Hellbent on getting the bad guy, getting to the truth, and getting the scoop before anyone else. Regardless of the tact or carnage she may leave in her wake.

Meanwhile, Clark, bless him is just trying to keep several people from yelling at her or causing lawsuits or bodily harm. And then of course, no one really cares anymore when she uncovers the bigger problem.

Like here. Toyman totally takes precedence over Lois being less than tactful when she went after him.

And Clark is exasperated when she is proven right. Because, of course, she’s right. She just didn’t have to destroy a child’s teddy bear to get there. My goodness Lois.

Also, I must confess in this episode – Lois reminded me of Columbo. So convinced the bad guy did it and then just annoying them until they confess or slip up. Which she does beautifully – I might add.

For a moment, I really thought he had gone straight and was telling the truth.

Then I saw all the guns and weapons she saw and I thought, nope, she’s totally right. Why else would a toy maker have those? And seriously dude, with your skills you could make some pretty amazing toys and a crapload of money the legal way. Why are you turning to crime?

Although, I might too if I was being nagged incessantly by a crazy woman.

Though to be fair to Lois, he did attempt to blow her up and kill her. So I get the trauma level she’s working with her.

Everyone else around her just sees her going full psycho instead.

Meanwhile, Clark has had a hell of day. He’s trying to introduce his cousin to the con. Jimmy is selling comic books where he’s more of the hero than Superman is. I love that he’s literally making money off being Superman’s pal. It’s such a step-up from the ridiculous comic book series. While also keeping the utter ridiculousness of it as well.

It works in a delightfully charming way.

Jimmy is ridiculous.

Kara is introduced to the world at the con. I think. I don’t know exactly what everyone knows about her because I still haven’t watched season two yet. My TV watch list is sort of full, and my gaming list is not helping the matter. I’ll get there, I swear.

Clark does that, races off to save the day, which is it’s own problem. Comes back to find Lois wreaking havoc. Tries to sort things out with everyone and calm things down. And buy himself a little souvenir from the con only to discover that Lois is a 100% right and things have gone from bad to worse as Toyman unveils his newest creation. Then as Clark tries to change and save the day, he’s interrupted by Lex giving a speech about humanity having the power and not needing to rely on aliens.

With Hank Henshaw as his latest development wearing a suit similar to Superman’s but with an L where the S ought to be. And seemingly working for or with Lex. Which I’m sure will have nefarious purposes since Lois doesn’t seem thrilled with this turn of events.

Simply asking Hank, ‘Why?’

Feels like there’s a lot of history there. Man, I really need to watch season two.

Maybe that will tell me something important.

Regardless, Cyborg Superman is here. Which I knew was happening based on the posters surrounding this season’s premire, so it’s not that shocking.

I like the spin that Lex is trying to put on it though. A homegrown hero with powers and abilities. A human one. Not an alien. His line about ‘not relying on the kindness of aliens’ is a good one. I can really appreciate what he’s trying to do. Dividing a firm line between human and alien.

That you can only trust your own kind.

Not the kindness of some alien.

What if they change their minds about liking or protecting humanity? What will you do then?

Except, well, we know the answer is Superman. It’s also going to be Superman. It’s that simple. Because he will never turn his back on humanity. He’s as human as it gets. A really big dude, with a kind heart, who replaces teddy bears out of the kindness of heart. Simply because it’s right and will make a little girl smile.

A guy who wants to spend the day with his friends at a convention. Who loves his girlfriend even when she drives him crazy. Wears the watch his friend gives to him. Introduces his cousin to the world and politely exits because he has to save the day. Makes small talk with the villain because everyone deserves to be treated with kindness.

That is simply what he believes.

He has all the power in the world. And he’s not using it to rule the world. Just to protect it and live his own life.

Something that Lex and Henshaw will probably never understand since if they had power, they would use it against the world. Clearly. As I can clearly see, they are definitely up to something sketchy here.

However, my two favorite parts of this episode is Clark dealing with the bank robbery. He’s just so over it before it starts.

Like, come on. Don’t you know who I am and what city in you’re in? Is this really the choice you want to make?

And then she pulls out some Kryptonite that’s apparently just laying around the city. Someone should probably clean that up before Clark and Kara just die or pass out one day. Meanwhile, poor Clark is just standing there like, oh come on!

Then there’s a strange level of flirting and fighting. Flirting from her, Clark is a gentleman as always. Perfectly loyal to Lois in all the senses.

It’s just a hilarious scene to me.

She’s so interested in proving that she’s the top dog because she can stand toe to toe with Superman. Then finds some sort of odd respect for him as he outwits her. Just by waiting long enough for the battery to die or for her to run out of Kryptonite. I don’t know. But it was awesome and very Clark Kent of him.

Eh, I’ll just wait. I’ll be beaten to a pulp. It’s fine.

This dude, I swear.

Then, while he’s doing this Kara is getting interviewed by Cat Grant. Asking her the craziest of questions about her skincare routine. None of which she understands because she didn’t grow up here. So instead, she’s answering in the most literal sense and I freaking love that.

Please change nothing about this, writers. I love it.

That is my new response to dealing with the elephant in the room. I’m just going to pet it. Thank you Supergirl.

Who is in her own right having some issues this episode because she confesses to Jimmy that she has romantic feelings for him and he shoots her down. Because there’s a whole world out there to see and she might find someone better. So yada yada yada. BS.

I don’t even want to explain why I hate this so much. Actually, hate is a really strong word. I just don’t like this idea because it feels like it takes Kara’s agency away. Like she doesn’t know her own mind well enough to decide for herself whether or not Jimmy is the right guy for her. So the strong well meaning man must show her the light.

Well, go pound sand a bit, Jimmy.

I do not feel bad for him in the slightest when Kara declares all suitors to come to her booth and declare themselves essentially as potential mates. Just so she can see what is out there. She actually handled the rejection super well all things considered.

She was like, fine, if that is what you think, I will try a larger sample of men.

Welp, you got what you asked for Jimmy. Good luck with that. And kudos to Kara for not pining away and just trying something else. She’s clearly upset but also believes Jimmy might have a good reason for what he’s saying and is trying to see his perspective. Plus, why pine for someone who doesn’t want you back? Apparently.

Overall, this episode was great and I’m looking forward to the next one. And to watching season two. Eventually.
