There’s more chicken than you can ever eat.
I’m telling you that we should have let Percy shoot Ripley way back in season one, freaking evil smoke demon be damned because my goodness is she a pain in the ass.
We still don’t trust the dragon and everyone has come to the same conclusion that Keyleth has been at since the evil, poisoned dragon appeared with a deal – we cannot trust her.
Thus, we told her to go eff herself. Perhaps too little too late since Whitestone has just been burned to the ground.
Apparently, all the protecting and hiding we did with the city was pointless when someone just points to where it is, because again like the dragon, Ripley also sucks.
And wanted to steal their stock of dusty stuff that Caleb got jammed into his arms pre-campaign two. Residum. Whatever it’s called that Whitestone is just lousy with. Part of the reason that the Briarwoods wanted it in the first place.
In other news, Scanlan has left the party to find his daughter. Who appears to want to be found since she was somewhat excited to see someone who looked like Scanlan. Only to be disappointed when it was not him.
Thanks to Pike, Scanlan saw all this and wants to be there with his daughter to establish a connection between them.
Although, the connection between Pike and Scanlan is also very sweet and might be the most wholesome thing happening in not only Scanlan’s life but the show as a whole. Because they are just so sweet to each other. I loved that Pike just gently nods and lets him go.
Unfortunately, he chose that moment to f*ck off when a bunch of tiny dragons were rampaging on Whitestone.
This poor freaking city. They just can’t win for losing.
And I love Keyleth just like, gots to save the tree because if that’s still standing these people will recover and forge ahead. It means so much to them and has survived so much with these people. Fearing that if they lose the very symbol of Whitestone, these people will never find the hope to recover – like a third time from hell.
You know what? At this point, living in Whitestone is like living in Gotham. I’d move the first change I got. I don’t care how difficult it is. Like this is a shitty place to live. Dark all the time, constantly under attack. I’d be like I’m finding my own little corner of the world, and everyone leave me alone.
Thank you very much.
Now of course, what kind of review would this be if we didn’t discuss the scene hot tub scene?
I really love that Talieson and Laura were on the same page for this scene and it just organically sprung out of the moment. Like with him saying ‘he’s really working on something here.’ And Laura just taking that as a cue and running with it.
It translates perfectly into the cartoon because it’s just so perfectly in character.
Percy freaking out, trying desperately to get rid of Vax so Vex doesn’t drown or be forced to come up for air.
Which – side note – would have also been hilarious to witness.
Just Vex coming up for air and scaring the shit out of Vax and then just embarrassing the shit out of him. Like excuse me, brother dear, but we were in the middle of something.
Vax would just freak the hell out.
Because he was just so sure of himself in that moment. Coming to talk to Percy about his sister. Forgiving him and moving forward for the first time since Vex died last season in the temple of Raven. It was a sweet moment. Made so much funnier by the fact that most of the audience probably knew Vex was under the water just begging her brother to get the hell out of the room.
I am impressed by her ability to hold her breath as well.
I wonder if Percy was just as good.
Well, that’s for Vex to know and us to wonder. Apparently.
Oh, and could someone please tell Vax, because I need him to retroactively freak the eff out. Just imagine it. Just picture it for a moment.
Just imagine it something akin to Liam’s freak out at the table when Laura said she just popped out of the water. Absolutely amazing. Would love to see it.
Overall, this was a good episode. I love that this show remembers to add downtime whenever it can. Like it’s nice to get a break while the characters just get to breathe. Yes, things are tense. But they still need to eat large amounts of chicken and rest, or they’ll be useless as heroes.
I feel like D&D is one of the best mechanics for including enough rest because you need it to continue fighting or you start getting weaker. It’s part of the game like it’s part of life. I really enjoy that because it gives the characters in the cartoon a chance to take a moment.
Like Percy and Vex enjoying a soak together or sitting by the fire together talking. Because it’s clear he wants her to come to Whitestone with him. He’s so freaking in love with her and he’s just wearing his heart on his sleeve.
It’s such a different character to the angry man we met in season one. Hellbent on only one thing. Here, he’s managing several things and is completely in love with this woman. Just waiting for her to come to the same realization that she loves him just as much. It’s very sweet.
Pike and Scanlan having a moment as good friends with a chance for more.
Scanlan longing to get closer to his daughter. To be there for her in a way he was not before.
Even the moment between Vax and Percy when they clear the air after all this time between each other. Yes, it’s funny because we know what’s going on beneath the water. But it’s also sweet that Vax takes a moment to clear the air with a man he knows is going to be around for a long time.
He wants his sister to be happy and Percy makes her happy, so be it.
But dude, look for traps. Or let Vax look for traps before you go poking around and touching things.
I can agree with that.
It was a very sweet moment between the two men, who I’m sure will come to respect and care for each other completely as brothers. Because, yes, I for sure believe they’re going to be stuck with each other forever.
Lastly, I’m truly thrilled that everyone is finally on board with Keyleth, because I also do not trust the dragon lady. I think she’s been right this whole time, and I hope that she’s proven to be right. It will be good for both her and Vox Machina.
I also love that Vax is trying so hard to make it up to her and just attacks first. Then we have Percy coming in and dissolving the agreement because he doesn’t trust her either anymore after letting Whitestone get attacked.
Because yes, you might not have been able to stop the attack, but you could have f*cking warned them. Sent up a smoke signal. Something if you claim to be on their side.
Just get the heck out of her, lady. We’ll add you to the list of dragons Vox Machina has to kill. Easy enough. We’ve already gone through like three at this point.
What’s one more?!
Oh, and Keyleth and Vax need to work their shit out. We’ve been dancing around this romance since season one. Let’s go people. Get it together. Pull your head out of your ass Vax. Thank you.
Anyway, onto the next episode. I’m really excited to see how this season turns out. Although, I’m wondering if going after Ripley is a good idea right now. Considering the baby dragons are starting to hatch. Maybe put that on hold.
The time to kill her was season one. And while she is being a pain in the ass this season, I think a swarm of dragons takes precedence.
That would be my choice. But hey, let’s see how this choice works out for them!
