Couples of Pride – Arisa & Lalin

There have been a few toxic couples on this list as of the last few days and while not as toxic as the others, it’s still not the healthiest of the relationships.

I mean, they start off by lying to each other about a few things. Including names and professions.

Only for them to resolve most of that and end up in a good relationship. Semi solid. Only for all of it to be ruined when they discover way more about each other than they anticipated.

Like Lalin being the daughter of Wei Ling, the woman Arisa desperately wants to take down for supposedly killing her parents. And Lalin discovering that Arisa is her mother’s biggest business rival.

Wei Ling and Arisa are constantly taking shots at each other. Neither above using Lalin to get an edge over each other.

Which you know, not the healthiest thing in the world.

But to be honest, I don’t really care.

These two are pretty cute together. Lalin is the healthiest person on the planet and the most accepting for putting up with these people and forgiving them.

But I really love how silly and goofy they are together. They’re pretty sweet together when Arisa isn’t focusing on taking down Lalin’s mother.

Lalin is really sweet to Arisa. Making her a cake for her birthday. Something she hasn’t celebrated in a very long time since she lost her parents. Arisa puts lotion on for Lalin daily. Teaches her how to drive her race car.

They spend a lot of time together, just to be together.

Very sweet and kind to each other.

Which is part of the compelling reason behind them. Because you can see how much they love each other. How much they care for each other. Yet, Arisa is pretty terrible a good chunk of the time.

Lying. Manipulating. All behind Lalin’s back to take down Lalin’s mother.

It’s an interesting dynamic.

Because Arisa and Wei Ling are going to war while Lalin is just skipping through flowers thinking that everything is lovely for the longest time. Like Lalin has no idea what’s happening throughout most of the series. Just thinking her mother and girlfriend are business rivals who just need to get along a bit better.

Except they’re not.

They kind of hate each other.

And want to destroy each other.

But that’s a bit complicated with Lalin in the picture. So instead, they’re making moves at each other when Lalin isn’t around. Sometimes, they’re using her to get to each other. All while pretending they’re somewhat getting along.

It’s hilarious to me honestly.

Only to reveal that nothing anyone thought was true is true and the world is wrong.

Somehow, Lalin manages to get everything back in order and help everyone to be better people. Forgiving them for all their crap.

She’s an angel, honestly.

Either well versed in the DBT therapy of radical acceptance or has no idea how deeply they were manipulating everything. Her included.

Yeesh.

Overall, it’s a crazy ride. A hell of a chess match. One – I think – is a better chess match than the one we get in Xeque Mate. However, the chemistry and steaminess is way better in Xeque Mate. Though, I do feel Broken (of) Love does it better than most Thai GL series.

Faye brought her A game with her first series and I’m excited to see what she’s got planned next! I will definitely be checking it out! Will you?
