Well, we have problems, don’t we?
However, first and foremost, I don’t believe for one second that Arisa doesn’t care for Lalin. That she’s only using her to further her agenda to take down Weiling. Is it Wei Ling? I’ve seen it spelled both ways.
Someone please let me know if I’m being horribly insensitive to the culture by spelling it wrong.
Thank you.
I think that for whatever reason, Arisa is using this as an opportunity to explain away the relationship to her uncle.
No, it’s not a distraction. I’m merely using her.
Right. Sure. I don’t think you believe that Arisa.
I don’t even think Mek believes it.
It’s really interesting to me that these two have been together for like three months at this point and know so little about each other. Arisa didn’t even know Lalin’s real name.
Which – I found way more understandable than I do not telling her what you actually do for a living. Why hide it?
I really didn’t understand why Arisa felt the urge to lie. Even in the first episode. I just have to point out that is a horrible way to start off a relationship.
Even if you weren’t planning on something more happening after that first night, which fair. You don’t owe anyone anything upon meeting them for the first time. I’m not saying outright lie about everything, but there’s nothing to volunteer if you don’t want to. Especially, if you’re considering this to be a one-night stand or something like that.
Like okay, I’m not going to judge you for not telling a hook-up everything about your life. That would be crazy.
However, I’m for sure going to judge you for starting a relationship, becoming an exclusive girlfriend relationship, and not telling them that you’re actually a real estate mogul. Were you intentionally setting yourself up for a future failure?
Which could be entirely possible for Arisa. The woman who ran off after one kiss because she felt something.
It’s possible since she was fully ready to double down on being mad at the start of the episode for Lalin not telling her the truth. Which felt more like an excuse to interrupt the relationship rather than really being angry.
Considering Lalin wanted to discuss it and Arisa just wanted to blow the relationship up.
Commitment issues much?
Which I then thought was going to happen again with her random flirting with the woman in the restaurant. I geninuely did not think she needed to go that far to get what she wanted out of her. But hey? What do I know?
I’ve never been in a position of power, trying to gain more power, to blackmail a guy into giving me what I want to take down my mortal enemy. Maybe I’d make a choice like that too.
However, what I did enjoy out of this odd moment was Lalin investigating the claim and then confronting Arisa with it. Who I also must commend Faye for playing out that moment so wonderfully. She didn’t even flinch as she was confronted with the photo of her with another woman.
Just so damn smooth.
I really enjoy Faye’s performances overall. Even if I did not care for Blank the Series. I did enjoy her throughout. Her stand-out acting moments are the reason I’ve followed her to this series which I probably would not typically go for.
Arisa doesn’t even flinch as Lalin holds up the photo demanding an explanation. Which she gives readily.
I must say, I do like the change of pace as well.
I feel too often characters will try to excuse their way out of their actions. Like I was flirting. You’re misunderstanding the situation or try to deny it altogether. Instead, Arisa doubles down on this and admits that she was flirting.
That she finds it to be another tactic in her arsenal to get what she wants in the world of business.
It’s a simple explanation, making the situation Lalin saw feel more clinical because it was business. Nothing personal.
I even enjoyed the flipping of the script with Lalin being cool with this idea. That Arisa isn’t really seeking out another romantic attachment. She’s working.
For whatever reason, I really enjoyed this scene being flipped on its head for a different outcome. Even if I might personally feel differently about the situation, I liked the fresh take. Instead of being such a point of contention, it was a simple discussion.
Also, in regards to those moments, I love that Arisa comes off so hard and cold to everyone.
Especially, her mortal enemy.
Which I do not think she needed to provoke quite that much after beating her. Especially, considering the position she takes with Lalin to try and get on her mother’s good side.
Sauntering so smugly into the house at the end and promptly declaring she wants to marry Lalin probably didn’t help if you wanted to get on her good side. Or at least appear that way to Lalin.
Because she’s playing a delicate game.
Being an ass to Wei Ling, while being a sweet loving partner to Lalin.
Which I feel if more Arisa than anything else. She’s putting on this show for Wei Ling because she’s pissed at her. For whatever reason.
However, she really does care for Lalin. Despite her claims to be using her to get to Wei Ling. I think that’s just an added bonus for her, but she really does care about Lalin.
I don’t know if she cares enough to really want to marry her or if that was just said to annoy Wei Ling. Because, calm down, girl, that’s way too fast.
Too fast.
The bath scene was very sweet.
Overall, throughout the story so far, Lalin feels very passive. Things happen to her, rather than making things happen. Which I suppose is why her reaction to the picture from her friend and her investigating it and confronting Arisa was a nice change of pace for me.
However, things happen around her that she really has no idea about or even tries to stop.
Arisa declares war on her mother and she’s like ‘sure, why not.’
Shouldn’t you be a bit more upset?
Maybe just a little? Your mom is pretty upset by Arisa. Then you just bring her into the house to declare she wants to marry you without discussing it with you first. I feel like there should be a bit more from Lalin.
Like she could be a great character, but she’s just falling shy.
So completely smitten with Arisa and happy to be home with her mother after whatever threatened her safety that forced her to Lyla. That she’s just sort of going along with everything.
She’s the epitome of the meme from How I Met Your Mother from Barney, that she just doesn’t care what happens for the rest of the day. You know?
Meanwhile, Arisa is carefully balancing this relationship with her revenge and trying to convince herself and her uncle that she’s just using Lalin.
Which – you know – makes no sense with the moment she arrives home and is all pouty wanting a hug and kiss from Lalin because she’s had a tough day blackmailing people and screwing over Lalin’s mother. It’s a very cute moment that reminds the audience that Arisa had already fallen for this woman.
She’s now struggling to reconcile that she’s in love with her enemy’s daughter.
I’m sure that won’t blow up in her face.
In other news, her assistant has discovered the woman who gave her a ride home is actually a journalist and lives in her building. She also uses this to gain information out of her apartment.
Then we’ve got a guy who basically hands his weakness to Arisa like he isn’t a complete moron.
Loved that moment of Wei Ling totally losing the contract just ripped the ground out from underneath her. Very lovely shot moment.
Which I’m also sure won’t somehow come back to bite Arisa in the ass. I’m sure this will all be fine. This couldn’t possibly blow up in her face and destroy her relationship with Lalin.
No. It’ll be fine.
Overall, it’s not the best series I’ve ever watched, but it is wildly enjoyable. The quality is good and Arisa and Lalin are fun to watch while the ongoing plotline in the background is pretty good. I’m really interested in why Arisa has decided that Wei Ling is the devil’s spawn. While she also comes to terms with the fact that she’s in love with Lalin and for sure cannot keep the promise she made to never make her cry again.
Considering your life goal is to take down her mother, I feel like there will be tears involved. Like it’s just a given at this point.
Guess, we’ll find out! Onto the next! Thanks for reading! If you enjoy my content, please consider supporting my site!
