Everything about the opening is awful.
The literal murderer is speaking at both funerals. Awful. Terrible. Disgusting. How on Earth can you live with yourself Nolan? How?
Then you get home and you’re like, ‘I want pizza. Who wants pizza?’ He just wants to fly off to Italy and grab some pizza. Then he gets mad at his son for having feelings about the day.
What is wrong with this man?
Isn’t he supposed to be the good guy? I mean, clearly, I know he’s not because he just straight murdered the people who considered him a friend. Then spoke at their funeral like he would miss them and that they were great people who welcomed him when he first arrived on the planet.
That’s how you treat your friends?
What is happening? This guy is crazy. A psycho.
And apparently, he doesn’t appear too concerned with maintaining whatever cover he has going on because he was awful snappy at his son for being upset that the world’s greatest heroes died. People he knew as a matter of fact.
Don’t bring it home.
Dude. Get a grip. Not everyone can murder their friends in cold blood and move on with their lives like nothing happened. Oh, and get mad at the people trying to investigate it. Such as when he yells at the Hellboy knock-off, Darkblood.
Also, that’s a freakin name.
Whoever came up with Damian Darkblood should stand up and take a bow. It’s just enough on the nose that it’s perfect. Not too much or too little. Love it.
I also love that he appears to know that Nolan is behind the murders. Something that Nolan doesn’t want anyone else to know. I mean, why else would that be the only thing that sort of makes him fly off the handle?
His little visit to Debbie also firmly cements the idea that she knows nothing of her husband’s secret plans for something or other. However, Darkblood has also seemingly planted some suspicion in her mind since she did not tell Nolan who was in the kitchen with her.
Also, suspicious. Because Debbie, does that mean you know something is off with hubby and you’ve never said anything to anyone? Just ignore all the red flags? Is that it?
Because if you’re planning to be on his side, I recommend you tell him about the demon thing visiting you in the middle of the night. Maybe he won’t brutally murder you like he did his ‘friends.’ But hey, what do I know?
Since his reasons are super unclear.
In other news, Eve’s boyfriend did not last long.
What the eff?
Seriously, I was bracing myself for an entire season of the two of them wanting each other, but being held back because she’s with someone else. As she tries to convince the entire world that she doesn’t have feelings for Mark. All the while as Rex gets more and more jealous and crazy.
Nope. We just skipped all that.
And turned Rex into the world’s biggest asshole by sleeping with someone else on Teen Team by lying to them that he and Eve broke up and she was with Mark now. Which he then had the nerve to try and explain that it wasn’t really Kate anyway.
You know, he sort of deserved the beating he got.
Then, then, these people have to add depth to Rex. Because seriously, when Eve said he wasn’t always an asshole, I did not believe her. People in these types of situations always say that and make excuses for people like Rex. Except, at the end when he sends up a calling card, he’s actually not entirely a dick.
He seems completely genuine in his f*ck up and wish to have a second chance.
Though I for sure thought she was going to give him one because that’s how these things go. She did not. I actually wrote down on my notepad that I was proud of Eve for forgiving him, while also having enough self-respect to move on.
Like no, you hurt me. I don’t have to hate you or be angry because it’s not good for me. But I also don’t have to put myself in that position again.
Also, I fully loved that she was resolute in her decisions as well. There was no wishy washy behavior from her. She set a firm boundary that Rex stepped over the line. She would not get back together with him. She would not tolerate him if she did not have to. She doesn’t want him dead or anything, she simply wants to remove herself from the situation.
Which she does. And sticks to.
I can really appreciate that from a character.
I also can appreciate that she and Mark do have a connection.
One Mark still feels for a moment even though Amber was right there, already giving him a chance. When he practically jumped at the chance to meet Eve at Mount Rushmore.
Which he did not know where it was.
Kudos to Cecil for not outing Mark that he had no idea where he was going. That was very nice of him. Maybe he thought it would be helpful to have an ace up his sleeve when it comes to getting Mark’s help more often than not.
However, what I also love about the connection between them is that while there was definitely an attraction between them. I could have sworn Eve wanted to kiss him at the end of the battle. This connection could be romantic. Probably will be at some point in the series since it is clearly very strong. I also really love that they’re happy leaning into heroic partners and friends.
They make a great team. Easily swapping in and out with each other during the battle. Handling the people and joking around while also trying to keep things from getting worse. While also protecting each other as needed. No one belittles the other or tries to push someone out of the way because they know better. If you didn’t know better, you’d think they’d been working together for years with how well they managed that fight together.
Simple shouts of names or words was more than enough for the other to know what was going on.
However, they were also able to confide in each other. Lean on each other and be there for each other as friends. Mark may have been interested in her but backed off when he realized she was with someone. And made no move after that. While he still enjoys her company and wants to hang out with her, he’s actually content to be her friend.
And vice versa.
No one is just bidding their time waiting until the other is single so they can be together. They’re actual friends, because they just want to be friends.
It’s such a refreshing change of pace and I effing love it so much.
I also love that Eve isn’t even mad or truly upset when she finds Amber and Mark kissing in his bedroom. She simple commends him quietly and moves on. Like yes, she might have been considering more, but that opportunity passed. They’ll be friends.
It’s not settling. It just is. They enjoy each other’s company and want to be in each other’s lives. Romantic or not. Plain and simple. Which will be a great foundation for later. Because you know there’s a later.
I’m sorry Amber.
I like you, I do. But you know it’s going to be Eve. You thought it was already!
Amber is a no nonsense go after what she wants person and I can respect that. Which is why I was so surprised she actually stayed after Mark bolted. I figured she would have packed up her crap and left. Not that I would have blamed her for that. She did get ditched.
And while Mark has a good reason – he did not tell her what it was. So, can’t blame her if f*cked off.
However, she stays and gives him another chance and they end up kissing. I’m really curious to see how this is going to unfold, because again, I just know in the marrow of my bones, it’s going to be Eve he ends up with.
Also, I doubt he would have left Eve in the bedroom. She would have at least known or been heading out with him.
Love that even Cecil clocked it as well.
In regard to the situation as well, I love that Nolan is proud that he chose saving the world over hanging out with a girl. Giving this whole speech that Mark didn’t hear a single word of because he was just desperately trying to get back to his bedroom. It was hilarious and perfect.
Truly capturing the mind of a teenager there.
With a father trying to impart some knowledge and wisdom to his teenager who is only thinking with his hormones now.
Loved the squid thing on his back as well. Then dropping it on the table for dinner. Ew.
But this brings me back to what is Nolan playing at? He gives his son a lecture about choosing the world over the girl. That he did the right thing there and that he has certain responsibilities. However, I could not help but note that he said Viltrimites have different responsibilities.
Why did he specify it that way?
Why not heroes have different responsibilities?
Why did he separate them out as an entirely separate species, not as a group with other heroes. Like Eve.
So much is going on!
Also, it does appear that Cecil may suspect something but he’s playing it so close to the belt, I’m not even sure if he knows whether or not he should trust Omni-Man. Since he puts the creature who isn’t quite dead, on ice.
I’m assuming for a rainy day.
I love that all the prisoners like chicken pot pie day. Very wholesome moment before we beat a guy to death and escape for what purpose and by who? No one knows!
A new Guardians of the Globe is chosen by Robot.
Whoever named Robot was either tired from Damian Darkblood and gave up or it was someone else entirely.
They suck.
Compared to the originals. Yikes. The world is in trouble. I’m with Omni-Man.
I love that Robot wanted Invincible to try out, but dear old dad said no. Probably doesn’t want to have to kill you, Mark.
Definitely did not think I would end up enjoying this series as much as I am! But here we are! Onto the next! Can’t wait!
