Ah, the final episode of the season.

Everything has been leading to this.

We’ve got a birthday party. A hook-up. A show to end all shows. A beating. A realization. And the title of the episode is the final line.

A lot happens this episode. So much so, I don’t even know where to start.

Maybe let’s start with Joel who pisses me off again.

He apparently has never had any idea that his wife does things to make herself appear perfect to him. The red lines from her bra. Getting out of bed every morning so she can wash her face and do her hair. How do you go like four years without noticing that effort?

Undoing her bra for him.

No, Joel, I don’t think she did it because you might lose interest, I think she did it because you’re a moron, and she’s not sure she’d ever get any if you couldn’t unhook the bra. You seem like the type of guy to focus more on that than actually making love to your wife.

For the sake of her orgasm, I think she did it for her.

Nothing about Joel makes me happy.

He pouts at the party like it isn’t his fault everything has gone to shit.

He claims he never left because he never took his ring off. He’s not sure what he did, but he never left.

I’m with Miriam, moron. It felt like you left when you packed up your shit in the middle of the night and left her and your two kids. It felt like you left when you moved in with someone else.

What the hell else do you call that?

Taking a vacation from your life?

That’s not how the world works.

Then to top it all off, after declaring that Midge gets whatever she wants from now on – which you should have been doing all along with a woman like that in your corner, you idiot! After making that declaration, he hears her bashing him on the night he left at the Gaslight from the little record store.

And his little ego cannot take it.

Everything about him immediately changes and he wants to blame Susie.

But here’s the truth, if you never left, she never gets drunk, and she never ends up on that stage telling the world what an idiot you are.

Because you are.

And you deserved that.

So you don’t get to pout and throw a temper tantrum because she called you some names. I think you should be happy she called you some names. It means she gave a shit about you leaving. She didn’t just shrug it off.

Plus, and I would like to stress this very much – she just slept with you!

She’s considering taking you back. Something she wasn’t willing to do before. Do not mess this up by letting your ego get in the way. Jeez.

Although, I’m not sure what I expected from him.

I’d like to put him in the same trashcan I put Christopher from Gilmore Girls.

Where’s Luke? I need a Luke for Miriam, please and thank you.

On different note because Joel deserves no more thought. Miriam apparently gave no thought to how things might change if she takes Joel back. Because you know, at some point, he might wonder where you go each night or you’ll have to tell him that you’re better at his dream than he is.

We all know his ego can’t take that.

On the flip side, she may never get to do stand-up again because Harry Drake has black-listed her from the entire New York scene. Her fake name isn’t allowed on any stage after the career suicide she committed last episode.

Gotta love that she’s more focused on the fact that critics called her funny, rather than the deep hole she’s dug herself.

Though Susie does have a bit of a plan. Play some sh*t gigs and keep playing them until everyone forgets what she did and hopefully they can rebuild from there.

Except, Harry has come for those crap gigs too.

Because Susie told him.

She did not foresee the career suicide coming.

Well, maybe only Lorelai Gilmore could have seen that coming. She’s been there a lot of times while shooting herself in the foot. She’d get it.

Anyway, with those gigs cancelled, they’re not sure what to do until Susie comes up with a brilliant scheme. She informs Lenny Bruce that Midge is in trouble, that she’s the one who said all those things.

I loved how impressed he was before he knew it was her. Then how entire tune changed about he’s put on his big boy pants and doesn’t have to pander to audiences anymore at places like the Gaslight. He stepped up to be there for his friend.

And I really like Lenny Bruce.

Please, no one ruin this character for me.

I loved that he appeared as a friend to help her out of a jam. Because she was in a jam.

His reaction too when he didn’t know what to introduce her as was hilarious too. Like – ah crap – should have asked more questions before I came up here.

However, her intro of herself at the end of her set was perfect.

Mrs. Maisel.

Like you knew that was coming by the name of the show, but to still make it land satisfyingly is a feat. Kudos to everyone for pulling that off.

While this doesn’t have the time Gilmore Girls did to flesh out the characters, it still does a remarkable job of it.

Lenny Bruce is a decent enough guy. Like there’s nothing really harmful about him. He’s just making his way in the world and there are a handful of people he finds don’t suck that he likes to hang out with.

Susie is brash and weird but never wants to be left behind. She wants to be remembered as someone for something and she wants desperately to make it happen however she can.

Rose has realized she has no life outside her daughter and husband and isn’t sure what to do with that when she’s not involved. Except stage a mutiny of her dining room.

One that apparently leaves Abe tossed into another room, claiming around his stuff, begging his daughter to be certain she and Joel are reuniting before telling her mother. Although, I think not telling her things is how we got into this mess.

Miriam accepted things and moved forward while Joel appeared to be stuck. She actively sought to make her life better. Getting a job, taking care of her kids, and finding something that fulfilled her. She even attempts to get a divorce after her father brings home a divorce attorney.

Abe is much like Richard Gilmore, he would never set up his daughter, but he would be practical about things.

I just wish she carried on with this train of thought instead of sleeping with Joel.

Who throws a hissy fit at the end and beats up a guy for heckling Midge.

Which – excuse you, sir – she did not need.

Midge handled that heckler really well in house and didn’t pay him much mind as he left. Aww, he didn’t like her. Who cares? Leave. Midge will move on, or you’ll be a joke now.

This relates to what I said about liking Noah before.

He wanted to defend Midge, but he allowed her to choose how. He would stay in the restaurant if that’s what she wanted. He would leave if that’s what she wanted. If she wants him to beat up her husband, he will. If it’s promise to never leave his wife because his wife is scared, she’ll be without Noah, he’ll do that.

Noah allowed her to choose how he defended her. How he comforted her or came to her aid.

Meanwhile, Joel takes matters into his own hands that were already settled.

Have I mentioned that I don’t like this guy? Because I don’t.

All in all, this is a pretty good finale. There’s a lot of unanswered questions left. Like what happens when Midge finds out Joel saw her perform? When will she tell her friends and family she’s a comedian by night?

Who is going to tell Penny she doesn’t have a leg to stand on marching into B. Altman’s to yell at Midge for sleeping with her husband?

I agree with Midge, at what point does she no longer have the right to sleep with the guy? She’s got the marriage certificate and the kids, and he wanted to be with her. Her with him. And neither of them was attached to anyone else. They’re two consenting adults.

Meanwhile, Penny, you slept him while he was married.

Arguably, you’re the bad person here.

Just saying.

Side note loved that only the maid knew that Joel was in the bedroom and that’s why Miriam was acting funny. Very nice touch. Maids know everything.

It also flips Emily never being able to keep a maid with them having the same maid forever. Love that.

Very good ending to the season and I wonder what more is in store for us next season. Should I keep watching and find out?
