Day Seventeen
Here’s another fond memory from my childhood.
It was getting late. I needed to go to bed, it was like a Tuesday night or something to that affect. I wanted to watch this Christmas Special starring the Rudolph from the claymations so badly. I convinced my parents to record it for me.
And I wasn’t going to be able to watch the whole thing. Just a piece and then see the rest after school the next day.
But the world had a different plan.
I was disappointed that I couldn’t get my bedtime pushed, but I’d see it soon. Hopefully.
I was getting ready for bed when my mother wandered in and told me the snowstorm cancelled school for the next day. I immediately asked if I could watch the special as a whole then.
My mom wanted to say no, keep me on my nightly sleep schedule during the week, but she said yes. If I stayed in bed with the lights off and went to bed without a fuss afterward. I agreed.
It was a common deal if I got to stay up a little later.
I still remember that night. Vividly.
Couldn’t tell you my age or the year it happened or the snow day the next day. But I remember getting to stay up a bit later to watch the special, all tucked up in my bed with my stuffed animals, and my parents teasingly rolling their eyes.
It was a perfect night for a little kid.
Thanks for reading! Spread the love and read on!
