Pride – Adora & Catra – 2024

A Glimpse Into the Future

Yesterday’s couple was unhealthy and well, this one kind of is too.

I mean, they do often try to kill each other throughout the series. Not to mention, they are both completely obsessed with each other.

There’s very little that either do without thinking about the other during the first what? Season or two?

I mean, the writing was on the wall.

Then the higher ups were all, like, yes. You can go there.

Then they did!

They had a whole redemption and true love’s kiss at the end of the series after resuming their friendship.

Catra and Adora are adorable together and they make an excellent team. Now, I’ve never seen the original. I just heard there was a gay cartoon on Netflix and went to check it out like any queer woman would.

I started watching it during the pandemic in 2020. I had no clue about the story or what the previous show was about or anything. I walked in totally blind.

Put on the first episode and was heartbroken!

The two of them seemed so close and tight knit. Until they weren’t.

I knew that Catra wasn’t going to join Adora at the end of that episode. That the show was going to be so much better with the tension building between these two friends. But I so wanted her to take Adora’s hand. I wanted her to join her right then and there.

But she doesn’t.

A very cat like feature or refusing to do the easy thing.

Then we spend the rest of the season, right up to season five of the two of them at odds.

And hating every moment of it.

Catra clearly doesn’t enjoy the path, she’s found herself on without her best friend. Especially, after spending their entire childhood believing that they would rule the world together.

To feel so easily tossed aside by Adora.

Then show up every freaking moment with that little, ‘Hello Adora.’

The voice actress was amazing at that delivery every single time.

The tension mounting and exploding between them time and time again as they clashed. Knowing each other so well, but also evolving without each other.

Something neither of them expected.

Catra felt abandoned and betrayed, left to endure hell without the one person who made it bearable.

While Adora doesn’t understand why Catra would ever choose to walk away from her. Did she not believe her? Or did she believe in what the Horde was doing that much? Is her friend truly lost?

Until it all culminates in season five.

When Catra can’t bring herself to be the villain anymore. She doesn’t really care for the terrifying people she’s met. She’ll mean nothing to them. She knows it. And she wants to mean something to someone again.

So she does the right thing, thinking she’ll die, and Adora can at least remember her fondly that way.

Except, Adora shows up. Because of course she does.

Because Adora’s been waiting for years for Catra to show some sign that they could be friends, that she could turn the corner, and join Adora. Just a small sign. Anything.

Now she has it. She wasn’t going to let Catra go that easily.

Even in the ship, she fights for Catra to pull out of the funk, and be there. She did this. She knew Adora wouldn’t let her go after making such a grand showing in saving her friend.

She showed up for Catra and in turn, Catra showed up for her.

And now they’re on the same side. Settling into a routine where they know each other so well and work together well.

Even jumping into flames or throwing themselves between people would attack them.

Shrieking their names when terrible things happen to the other and following each other into crazy plans over and over. Being cute and sleeping beside each other once more. As they discover how wonderful it is to be together again.

Until it all blows up a little and people nearly die and we have to kiss each other to save each other and the universe.

Then things are wonderful and suddenly why we were so obsessed with each other and hurt for the entire series makes sense. They’ve been in love since they were little. Oops.

With that sorted, life can go on. Happily Ever After.

I love this story. There are so many layers here to both characters and how their feelings were so hurt because they were in love but had no clue. Which is understandable given how they grew up.

This show was so good! Check it out, if you haven’t already!
