Alert: Benjamin Franklin – Review

Benjamin Franklin went missing.

Which is odd, because I thought he was dead.

Mike and Jason continue to bother me.

Nikki proves even more awesome than I first thought.

Kemi deals with the newbie who no one asked for.

Why do we need a quirky weird girl added into a series? Like who started this trend? Was it Abby from NCIS or Felicity from Arrow? Like who am I talking to about starting this weird trend?

It’s never really bothered me before, but like now every show seems to have a quirky odd character, usually a woman. And it’s getting less quirky when there’s a hundred of them running around my TV screen.

Also, it was weird how Nikki handled her too.

Like I know she wasn’t your pick, but you could try to be welcoming.

Which Kemi did.

It was also weird that gifted everyone presents but we didn’t see Nikki open hers even though it was featured. Twice. By the woman giving it to her twice and later it sitting on her desk.

Odd thing to make a show out of and then cut.

Alas, Nikki continues to showcase she’s the best of the best.

I simply do not care that she used a mob connect to get ahead. If the intel was good and bad people were put away without breaking the rules, she did her job to the best of her ability.

CI’s aren’t innocent.

They’re usually working for the police to get out of something they were caught doing. It’s all perfectly legal and just because no one else caught him with his hand in the cookie jar and made it stick is not Nikki’s fault.

She made her career just like most cops would if they could.

And she did it while being a woman of color in a male and white dominated role. That’s not nothing.

So I don’t really get Mike’s freak out.

Because Nikki didn’t break the rules. If he was her CI, there’s a paper trail, and her bosses probably knew who fed her intel. But honestly, getting someone that powerful under her thumb probably impressed the hell out of everyone. Me included. So Mike’s little freak out and his coming into her office just seemed freaking weird.

Like regardless of what he thought, Nikki is not someone who needs protecting as Jason later points out.

As she herself demonstrates by walking right into the bar later and sitting down next to the mob boss after she just beat him.

He could have killed her.

He didn’t.

He respected that she outmaneuvered him. She even tried to find out who really killed his father. Not that it helps, since he did it himself. Not that he admitted a thing or that she could prove it.

Nikki waves him off.

And while this may all come back to bite her, she played the game every white cop on every white cop show plays, and won.

That’s amazing.

So stuff it Mike.

Also stuff the trying to protect her by keeping Jason in line.

Jason gave her an out.

She didn’t take it.

She didn’t want it.

She doesn’t need you to save her. She’s not a damsel in distress.

And Mike is such a Schmuck sometimes when it comes to his relationship with Nikki that I literally don’t understand what she sees in him. At all.

I was watching this episode with my dad, and he firmly declared as Nikki was dealing with the mob boss and everything he threw at her that she had balls.

Her guts were on display proudly this episode as she handily dealt with getting them more time. With finding the kidnapped guy.

And I for the life of me could not figure out what she sees in Mike.

Because she does play the game within the lines, but she plays hard. Like Jason.

Sure, he crosses the lines.

But she lets him.

While Mike is the straight man of the group.

And Nikki’s balanced nature of playing the law within their needs is perfect to have both of them around. But Jason doesn’t treat Nikki like a walflower or a damsel that needs him to be her savior or knight in shining armor.

That’s not her.

And I don’t think Mike gets that at all.

After my dad declared she had balls, I started cackling because I figured out what Nikki sees in Mike. No balls.

Maybe that’s why it works. She likes his innocence that Jason doesn’t possess. He sees an ideal version of Nikki that can’t do any wrong.

Unlike Jason who sees the darkest parts.

Not that I want them together.

I’d just like this annoying interpersonal relationship to stop once and for all.

Like Nikki and Mike are together. Can Mike not be so annoying about it?

Everything he does is about her. Not making her life harder. Keeping Jason in line. Making her look good. Dude, do you do anything for yourself? At all? Ever? Could you worry about your career? Your shoes? Car?

For five seconds.

His entire personality gets consumed by being there for Nikki whether there’s something wrong or not.

Like my goodness dude.

She can handle her own shit. How about we do the job at hand? Or talk about baseball with Jason?

Because Jason already tried to help Nikki. He offered to fall on his sword, and she said no. She vouched for him and informed him he is who is and she’s not asking for changes. Just to do their jobs.

So like… Let it go?

He was more worried than Nikki in this episode and it was freaking annoying.

His entire personality cannot be prince charming to Xena warrior princess, it won’t work!

Just no.

Also, Mike I would like you to note something. You’re constantly worried that Jason doesn’t care about what’s in Nikki’s best interest. Right? Giving him shit about how he acts?

But when someone came up to shoot at the two of you, he stepped in front of you.

He didn’t do that for you.

He did that for Nikki because she’d be devastated if something happened to you.

That was for her. Not you.

Just as he pointed out that one thing would make him stick close and Nikki knew it was Sydney so the guy must have a daughter. I do genuinely think that he would do it for Nikki as well and vice versa.

We did get a glimpse of how upset Nikki would be to lose Mike last season. But I also firmly believe that she and Jason still love each other.

No, I’m not wishing for them to bet together. I actually have no interest in that.

What I am saying is that these two people were married for a while. They had two children that they love beyond all reason. They still have one together who they would do anything for. They promised once to be together forever. And things didn’t end because they hate each other as even Jason pointed out while signing the divorce papers.

It just played out.

They still cared and love and respect each other.

I think he’d be there for her no matter what and she would do it for him too.

They’re always going to be in each other’s lives. They’re going to have a special bond that no one else can understand because they went through hell together.

While Jason bugs me too because he can’t let things go.

Like I agree with Mike. Leave the case alone. Homicide will figure it out. But I also understand his obsession, but also the other detectives are detectives for a reason. Not everything has to be done by you.

But I also love that he gets Nikki too.

Like reminding Mike that she doesn’t need saving so don’t do it.

He didn’t say it maliciously or with ill will behind it. He just offered advice to his partner who is engaged to someone he cares about.

But I really need this three way non love triangle, love triangle to go. It’s just not interesting. It’s annoying.

I’m over it. MOVE ON!
