Pride – Supercat – 2024

All Time Favorite Scene of Supergirl

The scene above was the moment everything changed for me.

Although, Supergirl the show plays an important role in my life, given that it led me down a path of self-discovery. That was more Sanvers.

Here, this was one of my favorite scenes in the series and it was the reason I became so obsessed with the show and I was disappointed when the move to the CW meant we had to say goodbye to Cat Grant.

Honestly, it was the beginning of the end for the show for me. It had several moments in season two where I thought they’d pull off a save, but they didn’t. It just collapsed on itself.

Anyway, this couple was not a couple I intended to ship.

It just sort of… happened.

I started reading through AO3 for fics of Supergirl and people were already hardcore shipping these two together and I liked the fics. I liked the dynamic presented between the characters because there’s so much of Kara that wanted to be like Cat Grant, but never would.

While on the flip side, I think the same is true of Cat Grant.

I think she liked the wholesomeness that Kara presented.

And while I find season two is a little odd given the move, I think it’s totally fitting that Cat saw something in Kara she didn’t understand the day they met. I loved the little detail of writing reporter on her resume.

I also loved that Kara so easily won over her younger son.

Something, clearly not many people do.

Everything about their dynamic is interesting to me. Because Cat Grant thinks very highly of Kara, even if she tries not to show it.

She does.

She keeps her around, when clearly she has fired people for less offences.

She even offered her some job at the end and was always there to help talk her through things. By the end of the series they should have been more of equals. But since I stopped watching long before that point, I have no idea what happened.

Instead, I turned to fanfics for stories about them.

I know some people find huge age gaps off putting, but let’s remember something, this is a TV show. And I simply enjoyed the chemistry between the actresses because it was quite good.

They played well off each other.

And please, take a moment, and imagine Cat Grant falling in love with Kara Danvers. Just picture that for a second and tell me it doesn’t make you giggle with glee.

Cat Grant is formidable woman, but unable to form close bonds with people because she’s walled herself off so much.

But she had so much to offer and teach Kara.

Meanwhile, Kara offers a flip side – compassion. Kara relates to people easily and wears her heart on her sleeve, but is naive when the series opens.

Cat gives her a dose of reality while Kara offsets her cold nature.

It’s a pretty good match when you stop and think about how they compliment each other. They also both hold pretty high ideals and standards.

When Cat Grant first thinks Kara and Supergirl are the same person, she wants Kara to quit. To spend more time saving people. But I think she comes to realize over the series that this is how Kara remains connected to the people of Earth. She’s puts herself in their shoes.

Yet another reason the ending doesn’t really work.

Overall, these two are fire and ice. It would be interesting to see them together and think about everything that could have happened.

Got to love fanfiction.

Want a sneak peek of the next couple? Same show, different couple, also not canon. Chickens.
