Pride – Supercorp – 2024

It’s long, I don’t care

Okay, so in preparation to do all these articles I went through some of my favorite videos and clips of these couples. And well, then I fell into a Supercorp rabbit hole.

I clicked on this video and couldn’t stop watching it.

Their chemistry was palpable in every moment. It’s a shame that the show had no interest in using it further.

Also, for the record, I’m not here for a ship war or to start anything. If you don’t like Supercorp, that’s fine. But please, no hate, or who is better. Just no.

Alright onto this non-canon couple!

I think the thing that makes this relationship so compelling isn’t the Luthor or Super thing. It’s how different and yet very similar these two women are.

In their very first meeting, it sets up the idea that both Kara and Lena are trying to distance themselves from what their families have done. Make a name for themselves outside of their famous relatives.

In this, Kara finds a connection to the other woman.

And the funny thing is, Lena isn’t really a villain.

Not even when she tries to play the part.

To be fair, I didn’t complete all of Supergirl, I’ve just seen bits and pieces.

But!

But, Lena isn’t filled with darkness like her brother. Lex let all his hatred and crazy ideals consume him until there was nothing left. If there was anything to begin with.

Lena – on the other hand – has tried to be a good person from the moment we meet her. Even in flashbacks or what we know about her history, she was trying to cure cancer. Those aren’t the makings of a villain.

Lena’s darkness lies in people believing she’s just another evil Luthor. That there is no good in her.

And she believes them at times.

Especially, when confronted with Supergirl’s lack of faith. Where she once found such dedication and loyalty, she finds distrust. And when she feels she lost Kara, she allows herself to slide further.

Like, if you want me to be a bad guy, I’ll be a bad guy attitude.

Except, Lena finds it doesn’t really fit her.

Because in her most basic form, she’s a good person.

Lena wrestles with how people see her and so does Kara. Allowing a fundamental place for their relationship. Kara compliments Lena and vice versa.

Kara always sees the good in people.

But Lena sees the worst.

They’re both intelligent people and can often be unreasonable, but when confronted with the undeniable truth, they’ll listen.

I think this pairing compliments one another perfectly.

Lena has never had anyone show up for her the way Kara does. But Lena favors Kara over Supergirl. Her powers, her alien heritage is second to her. She wanted to be Kara’s friend. She has little to no real interest in Supergirl, beyond the relationship they have to help each other protect the city.

Kara is always the one to believe in Lena. And Lena always believes in Kara as a person. Not just an alien or a hero.

She thinks that what Kara does is as important if not more important than Supergirl.

Overall, this couple was compelling in pairing, in chemistry, and even with the storylines they gave us. Because literally any of them could have become romantic. I would have believed it at the end of season two in six or five or really anywhere.

They just fit.

And I’m really sad that the writers and showrunners, somehow felt like this was a place they couldn’t go or that it didn’t feel fitting with the characters. Because it does.

It does.

Friends don’t act like this. Not really. And if you don’t believe, well, watch Xena. You’re going to see a whole lot of the same sort of relationship, and they’re considered a queer relationship as confirmed by literally everyone on the show.

And no, Xena is not Queer bait like Supergirl is.

Xena literally had no choice but to frame the story that way given the time it came out. Unlike Supergirl, who was produced 20 or so years later when the world has evolved.

But the so called ‘friends’ act very similar.

Very unfortunate that Supergirl’s writers or people in charge were more interested in not having that storyline, because it could have been wonderful. Instead, they’re remembered for being one of the most Queer-Baited shows in history.

Not how I would have liked to make history.
