A whole damn bus is taken filled with people.
Including 12 kids.
It’s not an accident this bus is chosen.
A new asshole is in charge.
Because what would a season two of a show like this be without adding in some authority figure no one likes to mess up the dynamic of the show?
Hmm?
I hate this plot.
It’s happened a million times before and it will never been interesting.
See Hawaii 50, NCIS: Hawai’i, and plenty of others too numerous to mention. I’m pretty sure even Lucifer falls into this category. I hate it, I don’t need it nor want it.
Also, I’m not sure what the opening of the series was for.
To illustrate she likes Mike more than Jason?
To discuss safe sex with her ex and daughter?
To show the new house?
I mean, I love that Jason and Nikki are dedicated to being the best parents they can be despite their divorce and life changes that have happened around them.
I also hoped beyond hope that this meant we were moving away from stupid interpersonal relationships designed to annoy the crap out of me.
Like my number one compliant from last season was shit and get off the pot.
If Nikki is with Mike let it be! Please!
Stop toying with the idea that Jason is a roadblock or there’s something between them when all they are is friends raising a daughter together. It doesn’t have to be more. It shouldn’t because could we please be adults?
I was hoping that tidbit died with season one.
Also, did we confirm that the real Keith is dead?
Are we going to revisit that plot or pretend that season one’s fake Keith never took place?
I’m just wondering where this season is going to fall.
Episode one of the season is fairly solid.
It gives us a reason as to why we’ve moved locations, because there’s always a season two set change. Normally we things get blown up in these shows or destroyed. But here, a new boss works.
Except the new boss doesn’t or does like them.
I can’t tell.
But I love that Nikki insists that they all do their jobs and things will be fine.
Which is the truth.
Most of the time, it’s easier to get along with new bosses when you do your job to the best of your abilities. And if that isn’t enough, there’s nothing you’re going to be able to do to deal with that boss anyway.
Time to find a new job in that case.
But we’ve got Mike overly worried about everything.
Then we’ve got Jason offering to fall on his sword. I’m not sure what he intended to do, if it meant quitting or taking the heat. But I love the way Nikki handled it.
‘We are who we are.’
I love that she accepts Jason.
He may bug her and she wishes he could be more in line, but she doesn’t fault him for being himself. Because that’s who he is. That’s who she fell for and choose to raise two children with and I love that she just goes with him sometimes.
But I also love that Jason has enough respect for Nikki to offer.
Because I felt he was genuine when he’s usually an ass about everything.
Overall, it was a solid episode and getting to procedural basics.
Something the show wasn’t overly focused on last season because of Keith. But we’ve moved on and we’re getting into a rhythm here.
I liked the characters more than the plot.
Well, I love Nikki and Kemi and everyone else is there.
Specifically I mean Jason and Mike who I alternate between loving and wanting to slap most times. Which is interesting for me, because I’ve never really had that kind of characters relationship before.
Like Mike wanted to go nuclear and then got mad at Jason for being a loose cannon.
Like my dude, you just let him go off. You asked him too. You can’t get mad that he loses his shit sometimes if you’re going to let him do it.
Or Jason constantly egging on Mike and annoying him, despite being incredibly loyal to Nikki, because he cares about her.
But there’s Nikki handling it all, with ease. Even though it’s anything but.
I love her.
And Kemi.
And I’ll keep coming back for them.
So please, keep a good thought for me here!
