As per usual, most TV shows are recommended to me through gif sets I see on Tumblr.

Isn’t that how everyone finds shows? Or at least the gay ones?

I got my dad into this series too and he was like how did you find it? I literally answered, it has two women in a complicated romantic relationship.

Enough said. Sign me up.

The show and writing on this show are incredible, but we’re not here to talk about the show. We’re here to talk about the two leading ladies in love with each other for Pride 2024!

Amy and Kirsten hold a special place in my heart.

First and foremost, because Amy is older and still discovering new things about herself. Like falling in love with a woman and not caring about labels.

I really enjoyed that tidbit in season one.

Amy admits that she likes Kirsten. She’s not dissecting it or her entire life wondering if she’s missed something. Instead, she rolls with it.

After the initial shock wore off, she acts on her feelings. I love that.

She’s like I’m too old for this beating around the bush.

Except her fears about saying ‘I love you’ to someone again come into play and ruin their first attempt at a relationship together. She’s scared she’ll lose Kirsten the way she lost her other love.

And she can’t take it again.

Amy’s feelings are valid. She’s afraid. But unwilling to overcome it when the show opens.

And Kirsten, she has every right to be upset that her partner isn’t doing what she promised. That she seems stuck and lost in the past, unable to move forward after a good deal of time together.

Their complicated separate struggle is a beautiful part of season one.

Because they barely interact in the present day during season one.

We see into the life they had been building before that fell apart at the seams.

We learn Amy was considering partial custody for Poppy, but was terrified to go through with it. And in this, Kirsten learns exactly how important she was to Amy.

Though Amy cannot say it, Poppy is precious to her, and waiting to share that with Kirsten is a major deal. Leaving Kirsten somewhat confused. Because she can’t say it and struggled to show it outright, but there’s proof of how much she cares.

Does that make the difference? Is it worth risking her heart again?

Meanwhile, Amy learns that life is just too damn short not to tell the people you love that you love them and spend as much time with them as you can. Because we have no idea how close to the end of the road we are.

She returns with a new resolve to fix things with Kirsten and tells her that she loves her, while introducing her to Poppy.

And I could have loved this relationship even if the show ended there.

But it didn’t.

I’ll admit, I was a little scared when there was a season two announced. I was like, please no, don’t make them fall in love a third time. It’ll be ridiculous.

Only for us to walk into season two and they’re living together with Poppy, while expecting their second child.

Well, damn.

Amy didn’t do things halfway and it’s so true to their characters.

They just sort of picked up where they left off and moved forward together the way they both wanted too.

The scenes were so sweet and domestic and evolved into a comfortable relationship of people who have been together for a while.

I love how Kirsten was such a part of Poppy’s life.

Amy threw herself headfirst into this life. She wanted it more than anything after season one.

Thus, here it is.

I love how it unfolded.

I love how they are with each other. They know each other so well. Amy easily says she’s loves her. Kirsten trusts her to do the right thing and find a way to bring some kind of justice.

I love the way the season closes with Amy making the phone call.

This couple is a bright light in an otherwise dark and thought provoking world. These are two people, living their lives as best they can.

They make mistakes.

They fight.

They make-up.

But most importantly, they are there for each other in the hardest of moments.

I’m so thrilled for this couple and I cannot tell you enough how much I want to see more of them! Don’t you?
