Tracker: Springland – Review

Thank goodness, this show got back on track this week.

And we learn something new about Colter – it’s not always about how much money.

Instead of chasing down a car for $20,000, he decides instead to help a woman offering $5000 for information about his missing sister. Though the town claims that she’s anything but missing, just moved on.

In this episode, there were a lot of Reacher vibes.

Helping out a nice girl, only to discover the wealthy people of the town doing some shady shit.

I want it on record that I said the mother did it. Ordered her bodyguard or whatever that guy was to kill her because of reasons.

I was a little fuzzy on the way, but I knew it had something to do with her son, and I was mostly right.

Honestly, the plot of this episode is very paint by numbers. You know the answer before you go in. You knew the minute he saw her handing out flyers and the waitress said trouble was brewing that he would help. He’s a decent guy. Of course, he stops to help.

The bad guy is very obvious. Everything about the mother screams she did it to protect her little boy and thought that she had enough money to buy her way out of it.

Honestly, there’s nothing new about this plot.

But that’s what makes it work.

I think this show needs to employ this more often.

Because it’s not about the plot, it’s about Colter. It’s about why he’s different than every other hero on TV with a gun, supposedly fighting for the little guy.

He’s not perfect. He can’t get his relationship to the lawyer right. He’s charming but doesn’t really notice that he is, not until he wants to. Which is different.

In the first episode, he liked the cop. There was something there. But until the case was over, he didn’t do anything about it. He wasn’t trying to flirt or charm her, he was just himself.

As pointed out by Reenie, it’s kind of annoying of him.

He’s not intentionally anything.

He’s just Colter.

He saw a guy go after a woman, he stopped it.

He saw someone upset, he offered his services because he could help.

His approach and honesty about unfavorable odds was refreshing because he didn’t wait. As soon as she agreed, he told her the truth. Odds are, we’re not finding her alive.

He was honest, but not cold. He had a hard truth to tell and told it.

He let her stay with him in the truck. He deescalated the situation with the same guy he already had a fight with by appealing to him.

His ability to read people, places, and things goes a long way in making him stand out from everyone else.

Including Reacher. His calm, caring, demeanor sets him apart from Reacher.

Reacher doesn’t do reassurances or dealing with people. He just is.

Colter cares. Sees. Understands.

I like this show.

Overall, what makes this show interesting isn’t the plot or the arc about his dad and brother, it’s Colter.

His caring for his mother, the people he finds, and the people he works with make him stand out. His approach and kind words to the people he helps matter more than anything else about the show.

I really enjoy him out of everything in Tracker thus far.

Kudos to Justin Hartley for bringing Colter Shaw to life and for earning a second season, I believe!
